Well as a huge fan of Lindsey Kelk when I saw this up on Netgalley I was like I have to read this and boy it did not disappoint. It is a modern day Cinderella story starring Fran who was totally relatable and her journey to follow her own dreams instead of trying to please others. This story had everything and I started off with a few pages here and there and then I discovered I finished it and no amount of pressing the next page on my kindle got me any more! I absolutely loved this story for the fact that it was so easy to read and it would be perfect not for just christmas but any time of the year.

This is my number one book of the year, it is just perfection, great characters and quite the adventure. It reminded my of the perfect Cinderella story with Lindsey’s usual sense of humour, great cast of characters and I don’t know what it is but she can write the perfect book boyfriend!

I loved the characters, but I will admit I wanted Fran to be more assertive in her personal life and make her own decisions.

I loved this so much I’ve started to read it again and can’t wait for my physical copy to arrive on the release day
😂

I’d say this book is the perfect escapism but I feel it might be a bit more, it just feels magical!

A whimsical love story that will make you laugh and draw you in from the first page.

Francesca is stuck in a little bit of a rut. She is struggling to find temp work in Sheffield and people keep wanting to push her into teaching. Her relationship with her fiancé, Stewart, seems to have changed but Fran keeps sticking her head in the sand about it. Her life just doesn't feel quite right to her at the moment. So, when the temp agency offer her a secretive PA job to a celebrity, she accepts and is swept away on a luxurious journey. Little did Fran know that when she signed the NDA, she would end up being THE Juliette's PA who is an international singer and has a reputation of a diva. A short ride later to Naples, Italy and Fran is tasked with getting Juliette to the Crystal Ball. The Crystal Ball is the most coveted event of the year and the invitation process is very selective with a £50K price tag. The most elite gather every year for the spectacular event and it is truly like no other.

The trouble is Juliette is a little bit challenging and is battling throw some personal issues. Her manager even gave Fran a bible on how to handle her. However, you shouldn't always judge a book by its cover and Juliette is more than what the media reports. Fran ends up discovering different layers to Juliette and believes they are becoming good friends, but when drama rears its head, Juliette pushes Fran away and leaves her stranded on the island of Panarea. So, what is a girl to do but to secretly gatecrash the Crystal Ball in a stunning dress and have a night to remember. However, little does Fran know, this ball will truly change everything and remind her who she really is...

I absolutely adored On a Night Like This and ended up binge reading it until 2am last night. I was hooked from the first page and had to know how the story went. Fran was an amazing main character who had sightly lost her way and she was scared to do what she actually wanted as it meant leaving her comfort zone. She was frightened of change and making a mistake, which is understandable. The Crystal Ball gives Fran the perfect opportunity to rediscover herself and make an interesting connection along the way. I really liked how Juliette pushed her out of her shell and got her to open up about her feelings. Juliette was an interesting character who loved singing but hated the fame that came with it, and because of it she struggled to trust people.

I could not stand her fiancé, Stewart, he came across as a selfish douche who gaslighted Fran into thinking that him cheating in the past was her fault. He was a mummy's boy who wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I hated that he was trying to bully Fran into becoming a teacher instead of being a supportive fiancé who listened to what his partner wanted. He also did not consider her feelings whilst still maintaining a friendship with his ex. It is safe to say I am glad that he only featured in a small fraction of the book.

Whilst Stewart was a douche, I did enjoy the love interest curve ball that Lindsey Kelk threw in at the Crystal Ball, Evan certainly is a mysterious and charming character. Evan offers to be a tour guide to Fran for the Crystal Ball and promises her a night to remember. It definitely makes for an interesting night with quite a few mishaps. Evan has a few secrets of his own but is a genuinely good guy. He has had his own pain in the past, which Fran and Evan connect over. He was a drool worthy character!

On a Night Like This is an amazing book and I loved every second of reading it. I would love a second book to read what happens next after the ending as I feel like there is a lot of potential there and it would great to see Fran's journey continue. I would definitely recommend this book as it is laugh-out-loud hilarious and some passages are just so funny. It is a heart-warming book about rediscovering yourself after getting lost along the way and standing up for what you really want. I liked that the book doesn't stray away from more serious topics like body image, cheating and grief. On a Night Like This is a must read and you won't regret it!

Almost a fairy tale - but it doesn’t get too sweet or sticky and is a great romance as Fran gets to know herself first and what she wants second, the voyage Fran goes on, rethinking her past and the actions of her fiancé and mum help her to shape who she is and who she wants to be, some lovely writing and story telling, including a beautiful ball which is almost described as a farce, there is almost something a bit Shakespearean about the set up of the book with all the various elements and styles, I loved it all.

This book has all of my favorite things - a bit of humour, romance, celebrity lifestyles and genuinely likeable characters. There are a few unrealistic elements to Fran's story, but on the whole this book offers perfect escapism, in a setting that many of us would love to experience.

This is a light hearted, entertaining read which is beautifully written and highly recommended.

Lindsey Kelk is one of my favorite Authors, so I was absolutely thrilled to receive a copy of her latest book - A huge thank-you NetGallery and HarperCollins UK for approving my request.

On a Night Like This is the latest book by Lindsey Kelk, which is due for release November 11th

Fran feels like her life in Sheffield, living in a house her Fiancé Stew, inherited from his Nana Beryl is missing something - and it’s not just an air freshener to cover up the house’s fusty smell!
When she is offered a job to be Songbird Juliette’s assistant, to travel with her on a luxury yacht to a beautiful Mediterranean Island, where she is set to perform at the Crystal Ball, she grabs it in both hands.
Ultimately, Fran finds herself stranded on the island and is swept up in the glamour of the ball, the lure of a posh frock, and (almost) doing something for herself, for the first time in her whole life.

It’s a modern day Cinderella story, told with Lindsey Kelk’s unmistakable wit and charm.
I am a huge fan of all of Lindsey’s books, the way she writes is familiar, and I know I am guaranteed a book I want to keep reading. This book was the most overtly “Lindsey” to date, with references to Percy Pigs, Orange Twirl’s and Sheffield it was like a warm hug.
I adored Fran from the very first page. I was rooting for her to take control of her life and do things that makes her happy instead of putting everyone’s feelings before her own.
Buy it, read it and enjoy…..it gets an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and Lindsey for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This is a new author to me, but I intend to read more of her work and not just because she's from my own hometown! I absolutely loved this story - everything about it: - the characters, the plot, the dialogue, the settings, the Cinderella touch, the fun, the love - just all of it.

The author has such a deft touch - I was engaged from the first sentence all the way through to that fabulous ending. I love a little piece of a fairy tale - especially in these pandemic times - and this was just the most wonderful treat! Thank you, Lindsey - I loved it!

Good, although at times a little far-fetched (the suspended ball incident), but such a feel-good read. I really warmed to Fran's character. Love the theme of putting your needs first. The romance was sweet. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Lindsey Kelk's stand-alone books and this was no exception. PA Fran is living an unremarkable life in Sheffield with her fiance Stew who doesn't talk to her, spends a lot time with his ex-fiancee Bryony, and is encouraging her to be a teacher despite her pathological fear of kids and classrooms. When Fran takes a job as assistant to pop diva Juliette for a week, she finds herself on a luxury yacht living the high life and is reluctant to go back. At first, I thought something romantic was going to happen between Fran and Juliette! - I was quite glad it didn't as I would prefer a gay writer to tell that story, but it would still have been nice to see more of Juliette and get more of a resolution to their budding friendship, especially after Juliette disappears and Fran finds her Prince Charming, Evan, at a star-studded celebrity ball. Fran realises she's better off working with Juliette's boss and dating Evan than exploring her borderline-romantic fascination with the pop star. Light, glittery and entertaining, this is a perfect weekend read and ideal for the run-up to Christmas. Thanks again Lindsey!

Full disclosure; I adore Lindsey's books, so when I was lucky enough to receive an advance reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review I was bouncing like Tigger.
I find often if you have a favourite author who writes a series of books, often I don't completely connect with the characters in their standalone books, but Lindsey is the exception for me!
I absolutely loved this book, a modern day fairy tale set at Christmas (I adore Christmas) I loved Fran, her courage in choosing the right path for her and not the easy one, she turns her world around by stepping out of her comfort zone and deciding to do what makes her happy.
I loved the Crystal Ball, I adored Jess (Best best friend ever) and Evan wasn't too shabby either. I felt sorry for Juliette but loved how honest and real Fran was in handling her.
And Christmas!! I love how Lindsey writes Christmas and I read 'I Heart Christmas' every November.
This book made my heart very happy, I adored it and have already pre ordered it, don't miss reading it, it's glorious, warm and heart warming!!

Having read all of Lindsey Kelk's books I think this may have headed straight into the top 3. I finished it in one day and warmed immediately to the characters. The tale of a woman trying to find a way to put herself first for once is surrounded by trademark Kelk touches of humour, warmth and insights into female friendships. Hopefully we'll read more stories set in this fictional world.

On a Night Like this by Lindsey Kelk is her best work to date in my opinion. I couldn’t put it down.

Set on a yacht in the Med, our main character Fran, is acting as a PA to popstar Juliette, on the way to the exclusive Crystal Ball. There is plenty of fun and chaos along the way as Fran gets to experience the celebrity lifestyle. Now whilst this is a perfect bit of escapism into a world that most of us could never even imagine, the characters feel real which makes it even more enjoyable.

A real page turner which I highly recommend.

Thanks to Harper Fiction, NetGalley and Lindsey Kelk for the ARC.

Oh wow. This book is exactly why I tell myself I shouldn’t read my favourite authors late in the evening- I just couldn’t put it down. Started it in the evening and finally put it down at 1.30am- overjoyed that Fran had been brave enough to follow her dream. She (Fran, the main character) was immensely likeable and I warmed to her immediately. The secrecy and glamour of the job she took was really interesting and it all felt incredibly believable (not knowing the first thing about celebrity lifestyles of course!).
This was such a fun read and I think has made the list of one of my favourite books. Highly highly recommend!

I HEART Lindsey Kelk. This is An Officer and a Gentleman mixed with Pretty Woman plus any other great movie you can think of, all twisted up into a bundle of brilliance. Loved loved loved!!!!!

Lindsey Kelk has securely joined the ranks of authors such as Marian Keyes, Jane Green, Sophie Kinsella and Paige Toon (and so many more.)
Her wit, her style of writing. she always keeps the text relevant and is always up to date and relatable. Her new novel On a Night Like This was an absolute joy to read and I whizzed through it in one day.

Francesca Cooper is unhappy, engaged to Stu, living in his home town of Sheffield, Fran is desperate to spread her wings and return to the hustle of the city - but she doesnt know how nuch she has missed tit until she ends up on a once in a life time short term personal assistant job.
The job is top secret - its only for 5 days and surely Stu wont mind?

Fran finds herself on a mega yacht 'adult babysitting' Juliet - one of the worlds biggest singing sensations and here is where the tale truly unfolds.
Fran's escapades are truly laugh out loud moments, her encounters and her mishaps are just the kind of moments we all need at the moment - its perfect escapism.

On a night like this by Lindsey Kelk a magical five-star read. What a great story, I started this with the old just a chapter or two in bed, next thing I knew it was 3am and I was due up in 3 and a half hours for work. But I honestly can’t be sorry, I blooming loved it. This will make the perfect Christmas read, as you sit in a snuggly dark room, but to be fair it makes a great read any time of the year. I would kill for a night in Panarea, maybe even kill a certain songstress (I am joking she wasn’t that bad; we have all had terrible bosses). But that’s not this story this story is all Fran Cooper and her great journey, from wet and damp Yorkshire to a glitter ball and back. I could use a Fran in my life, as I always need some organising, and even something a little special. I have a feeling she could bring the special without even realising. Do not miss this amazing story, as I have always had a soft spot for this author, as she always manages to bring a sparkle to the page, but honestly this one doesn’t just bring the sparkle, it brings the whole diamond or crystal as the case may be.

All the elements typically found in a Lindsay Kelk book and this makes the perfect recipe for a great read. Fran is a great heroine but if anyone needed an escape from their life then it was her.: No job, no prospect of a job worthy of her talents in Sheffield, living with her miserable excuse of a fiancé in his dead Nan’s house and none of his family listening to the fact that she had no desire to train as a teacher. In fact if it wasn’t for the perfect BFF in Jess life would have been miserable indeed.
Then if all changes with a mystery temporary job that whisks her away to the Crystal Ball on a luxury yacht. There a meeting with the scrumpy Evan offers her real food for thought on what she wants from her life
Yes it is a modern day Cinderella story but who cares? Perfect escape with your typical laugh out loud and cringe moments and glamour and romance added to the mix. Absolutely perfect.
