What I loved most about this book, was that, before you read it, it seems like another romantic comedy, but it is so much more.

It is about finding yourself, finding your voice, learning what you want is not always what others want.

If you spend all your time helping others fit the jigsaw of their life, yours is left a scrambled unhappy mess.

It is about love, but I actually didn't think this was the main focus for me. For me it was about a woman, discovering she deserved better.

Throw in some humour, a cinderella moment and a popstar diva whom is not what you think underneath, and you have yourself a great read!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily.
This is the first book I have read by this author, and I signed up to 'follow' her after finishing it. Whilst some of the language is stronger than I like I accept that this is normal for a younger readership, (as is getting so drunk that you don't know what you are doing) and it was less prevalent in than in some books I have read.
This is a 'fun' read, with some very definite 'laugh out loud' moments; I particularly enjoyed the description of the ball 😂. The descriptions of the life of the rich and famous were interesting, and although the outcome of the 'romance' was predictable it was enjoyable reading. My only criticism relates to the ballgown - I don't understand why Fran would try it on before showering and then put it on again to wear when we'd read how much she smelt, urgh!
Thank you, Lindsey!

Impossible to out down! This was a delight from beginning to end. Perfect for fans of Lia Louis and Marianne Keyes.

A wonderful funny romcom which would make a lovely film. Fran starts a new job as PA to a star and is transported to a new world of glamour, money and celebrities, plus she meets Evan. A must for all romcom lovers.

I need to start with...I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

This was like a modern-day retelling of the Cinderella story - an enthralling and captivating grown up fairy tale.
I loved Fran’s character, she was funny and crazy, yet at the same time naive and gullible but she also stood up for herself and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. I was Team Fran all the way!

This was a wonderfully festive story which will really get you in the Christmas spirit and I to say this is probably right up there in my top three favourite books of this year.

Lindsey Kelk books never disappoint, you always know you are going to get relatable characters and a wonderful storyline where you are whisked away to gorgeous locations and this book did exactly that!! I absolutely loved it!!

Bravo!

This is Lindsey Kelk at her finest.
Every now and then, a bookworm needs a reset from her usual thriller reads and this book was perfect for just that
I got so swept up in Frans journey
In the first few chapters, when we first meet Stew, I was so mad at the way he treat her and spoke to her. I knew they were just not right for each other
I was so pleased when Fran took the role as Juliette’s assistant
I loved reading about the way they friendship unravelled
The book was a perfect, festive, romantic read and I thoroughly enjoyed it
Please tell me this isn’t the last we hear of Fran! Surely this has to be the making of a new series!

3 years ago, Fran Cooper agreed to move from London back to Sheffield to live with her fiancé Stuart. Fran is ambitious and hard working, but stuck doing local temping jobs as her partner doesn't want to her travel for work. Frustrated with her life, she rings a temping firm that offers her a mysterious 5 day PA job that pays incredibly well. The catch is Fran must travel. She decides to go to the interview, which turns into her leaving London straight away! The destination: Italy, to be the personal assistant for the internationally famous singer Juliette, who is travelling by yacht to a Sicilian island to play at a very swanky charity gig, The Crystal Ball. Fran is thrust into this complicated glamorous world, not realising that her life may change forever at this event, but only if she's willing to take a hard look at her life and decide what she wants.

The story is like a Cinderella story! For almost half the book, Fran is trying to make other people happy: Stuart, Stuart's family, Juliette. The story changes gears when Fran suddenly finds herself at the centre of the story, finally asking herself for what she wants, something she hasn't done for a while. I love Lindsey Kelk's writing, her characters always have a down to earth pragmatic side to them and Fran is no different. The book is like a fairytale, Fran living out this amazing once in a lifetime event but the best part is that she grows as a person, learns to save herself and not wait around for someone else to fix it. There is a romance but it's not at the centre of the story, Fran blossoming is the real story. In regards to Juliette, I liked that her character sat in the middle of being the nightmare that every says she is and being an amazing lovely person. It would have been easy to have her be either side of the scale but it would have been too cartoonish if that was the case.

I listened to a lot of this as an audiobook and thought Carrie Hope Fletcher did a good job narrating. The book is wonderful escapism, I love reading cosy books this time of the year and this hit the spot. I devoured it in two sittings. As per usual Kelk manages to find a balance in this as with all her novels: a bright likable woman in a light, cosy and humorous story without it being overly sweet and saccharine

I’ve never read anything by Lindsey Kelk but couldn’t resist the opportunity to read On A Night Like This, which sounded like some perfect escapism, the ideal book to curl up with as the nights draw in – and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a modern Cinderella story, a sweet fairytale romance that I guarantee will make you smile.

Fran Cooper’s life is stuck in a rut when she has the opportunity to take a short term job as assistant to a celebrity and finds herself on a yacht in the Mediterranean, tasked with accompanying the celeb to the Crystal Ball, a glamorous event attended by the rich and famous. But all of a sudden things take a dramatic turn and soon Fran finds herself having the night of her life that might change things for ever.

Kelk has created a fabulous character in Fran, relatable and one you instantly find yourself rooting for as you join her in her journey of self-discovery, as well as in the mad-cap situations she gets herself in that will make you laugh out loud. I loved her at times very British humour, a real contrast to the setting and the glamour that sweeps the reader up, and with a male romantic lead I think we’d all like to meet, it is a book that is a genuinely fun read and ticked every box for me.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for approving me for an ARC of this book.

The story is told from the POV of Fran, a young vibrant women who is struggling with life. She is in a relationship of convenience and not living the life she wants. I loved Fran and her hilarious personality. She was vivacious, fun and caring, definitely the kind of girl that would make a great best friend. I really didn’t think much of her relationship and was so pleased when she set off on her whirlwind adventure.

This story was a laugh a minute! I honestly could not stop myself giggling on several occasions. Fran certainly got herself caught up in a few situations and as always she dealt with them with a lot of sarcasm and wit. By far my favourite funny moment involved the disco ball, at that is all I am going to say on that one! Evan was also a funny character and very swoon worthy!

In terms of her job, Fran will freely admit that she messed things up but that didn’t stop me from feeling sorry for her after the incident at the shop. Juliet had certainly ran circles around Fran and I felt it was entirely unfair. On the whole though I did love Fran’s way of dealing with the initial interview and fallout from the Juliet incident.

Aside from the funny moments this story also had a lot of heart. Fran not only discovered herself but she became braver and made some tough but wise decisions. She was under no illusion that once the glam and the glitz had faded her own life would be waiting for her and she needed to fix it.

This story was full of Cinderella moments, plenty of laughter and a main character, that I challenge anyone not to like! The perfect heart warming read to make anyone believe in fairy tales.

Whilst I enjoyed this book it didn’t absolutely blow my socks off like some of the other books by this author.

It was amusing and I liked the ending. I struggled with some of the less believable elements and how it wasn’t as relatable as some of her other stories.

I enjoyed the characters though and felt these were done very well, like they usually are.

Lindsey has once again released a masterpiece. I absolutely loved the whole story from start to finish. It was such a funny read and just what I needed to perk me up

What a fabulous, funny, smile inducing story.

Loved the main character Fran and her new temporary assignment Juliette, a diva in the music world. All of the dialogues with the characters of this book flowed so well and naturally, it was like watching a film in my head, seeing and hearing them all talking.

Great escape reading, so easy to read, I simply flew through it and was left with a smile on my face when I finished it. I haven´t read any books from this author before but I shall certainly look for her books when I want to perk myself up.

My thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy in return for an honest review.

Oh my heart! Lindsey has once again shown why she is on my list of favourites. This book has totally healed the hurt of not being able to go and meet Lindsey on her latest tour.

Fran is a brilliant character, she is likeable and realistic from the very beginning. I have to admit Stew is a complete douche from very first impressions.

We follow Fran’s journey as she embarks on a new job in an assistant role to a very very important person. This is a great adventure and one I wish was going to be a big screen event. I have loved it.

I have read all of Lindsey’s books and this is definitely my favourite yet. I know I say that every new book but this is absolutely superb. I’ve had so many laugh out loud moments and Lindsey has completely transported me.

This is the perfect escapist read, it’s fun and beautifully written. Nothing about this book has disappointed. I have devoured cover to cover in just one sitting. It has been a book that has pulled me in and left me craving more.

I adore the cover of this, it’s just as beautiful as the story that fills the pages. My only complaint for Lindsey is that I wish there was more.

This is a book worthy of all the stars and one that deserves to be a bestseller! This is a definite must read. I absolutely recommend. As a true Kelkette, I will be cheering this book on as much as possible and keeping everything crossed that Lindsey may venture to Wales on the next book tour.

I love a cosy, funny, winter rom-com and having read a couple of Lindsey Kelk books before, I was certain that her latest wouldn’t disappoint.

Fran Cooper is ready for a change. Her relationship with her fiance is looking a bit dicey and she is desperate for a new professional challenge. So, imagine her surprise when she is almost immediately picked for a new job as assistant to the very famous popstar, Juliette. Imagine her further surprise when she’s boarded on to a yacht on its way to a little Italian island for the biggest celebrity party of the year. But it’s only when she meets a handsome American named Evan that the magic starts. However, they agree that they won’t see each other again after tonight and therefore, they won’t be sharing any personal details or getting too close… right?

Fran embodies what an ideal PA should be. She enjoys making other people’s lives easier but of course, that’s often to her own detriment. From the very first chapter, I knew she deserved a break and to put herself first. In fact, I was actively seeking out opportunities for her to do this throughout the book and willing her to take them!

She doesn’t really seem to be particularly career-driven and it’s so refreshing to read a rom-com heroine who is genuinely happy in an assistant role. This is only the second time I remember reading a contemporary romance novel, where the heroine isn’t craving a promotion (the first being Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid). Like Fran, my strengths are in helping other people not being a boss but of course, we’re always encouraged to look for more and reach for the next rung up. Reading about sassy, smart women who are happy to be someone’s assistant forever is really validating for those of us who really don’t want to be CEOs.

There is plenty of hilarity in the book too. Kelk has a wonderful mixture of blatantly funny scenes and more subtle comedic lines that made me howl with laughter. It feels really natural and there is a lot of the author herself in the humour. It’s a fantastic gift for a rom-com writer to have and assures the readers that they can always count on her books for a guaranteed pick-me-up.

The fact that Fran makes sure that her friend Jess knows exactly what’s going on when she herself isn’t sure what’s happening yet illustrates just what every woman experiences in unknown situations. I loved that Kelk added this layer of authenticity to Fran’s character and to her closest friendship. It’s another reminder that women feel the need to let each other know that we’re safe all the time because in reality, it isn’t safe for us.

The blossoming friendship between Fran and Juliette was a lot of fun to watch. There was a big chunk in the middle of the book where I thought they wouldn’t reconcile but as with so many genuine female friendships, we always find a way to come back together. It really felt like both women needed each other and they quickly fell into an easy dynamic despite the fact that Juliette was technically Fran’s boss. In fact, Fran seemed to make friends very easily with every woman she came across and that just added to her warmth. I knew that she and I would get along great.

The crazy experience that Fran has forces her to reassess what she wants from her life and it really couldn’t have come at a better time for her. Although there is a lot of bittersweetness to the decisions she has to make, they are also full of hope. The whole book carries a message that you can change your life if you know that something isn’t right. Big, unimaginable things could be just around the corner and they’re there for a reason.

On A Night Like This is a romantic, heartwarming novel with a lot of fantastic humour. It’s full of glitter, real magic and smile-inducing moments that hug you tight. The perfect Christmas romance that isn’t really about Christmas!

My thanks to netgally for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review, which I freely give.

I have not read this author before and six chapters in I will read another ! Fran is offered a job as an assistant to an unknown, but before the interview she has to sign a NDA. She has to go the next day for the interview and if successful begin immediately. She lives with her boyfriend in Sheffield, and it seems he is cheating on her.

She goes to London for the interview with her case packed and gets the job. She flies to Italy immediately. Having been taken to the airport in a chauffeur driven car and is met by another when she landed in Italy to take her to the ship she is to work on.

Question : What about the passport, I did not read that she had to take it with her when she went for the interview ! She was told at the interview she had the job and was flying to Italy immediately !

Once in Italy it was just as silly and I could not put up with any more so I gave up.

When life is getting to you then it is time to try something new, and that is what Fran Cooper does when she accepts a job as a PA to an A -lister Juliette after 12 years living with her boyfriend in his late Gran's home and wearing her ring. She has given so much up and is now regretting her lack of propects andher rut of a life.. After signing the NDA agreement she looks forward to travelling to Italy to an A -list event the Crystal Ball where Juliette is to perform for the charity. But after getting very drunk with her star and enjoying dressing up she finds herself hungover and now suffering from Diva-like performances from Juliette and ends up stranded on the island with no clothes and the awkward fact that all her carefully drawn up plans are dissolving in front of her and her reputation as an unflappable PA is in tatters. Like Cinderella she meets up with Evan and American who asks no questions but makes sure that she has a great time at the Ball despite a group of folk trying to find out who and where she has come from. This novel by Lindsey Kelk is the first I have read by her and the comedic timing certainly makes one laugh out loud. It is a perfect novel to be read in the depths of a winter's day with the sunshine and the magic of Italy shining through.

Fran Cooper is living an average life and thinks she’s happy, but maybe not happy enough….

So when a short term contract crops up, as a personal assistant to an A lister for a few days, she jumps at the chance to earn a good salary and be back home with her fiancé in Sheffield within a week.

Looking after Juliette, gives her an insight into the world of the rich and famous, luxury yachts, helicopters and designer clothing and a chance to be at the A lister event of the year, where’s she meet the most charming man on the planet.

None of this will change her, or turn her world upside down….. or will it?

I fun tale of one girls realisation that we all deserve the best, not second best….

A fab read, with lots of laughs along the way!
