I am not a fan of this book. The premise was interesting but the delivery was very strange. The writing is very choppy. I didn’t like the main character. The plot is lacking.

A really good read and I couldn't put it down. The premise is really great, although I did feel the plot lost its way a little bit and was quite slow. The multiple viewpoints helps with the pacing and stops it being suoer slow and it's by no means a bad read. But having read a cracking read from the author before, I had slightly higher hopes for this one.

The creepy premise to this book really grabbed and intrigued me, it sounded right up my street but sadly it just didn't so it for me.

I don't know whether it's because I have read so many of this style of book in this genre that it's got to the point where I can quite quickly suss out what's happening and can early on guess the twists and turns.

I'm not saying it's not a good book, I just wasn't the right reader!

Personally if felt more like a drama between mother daughter relationships.

I have to also say that I found the overuse of 'Whitney' rather irritating.

It's a good solid storyline and well written, just not for me.

Many thanks to netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for the ARC.

A great missing daughter thriller! When Whitney drops her teenage daughter, Amelia, off at a sleepover at a friend's house, she has no idea that her entire life is about to irrevocably change.

Because the next morning, when Whitney returns to pick up Amelia, an elderly woman answers the door. She's never seen or heard of Amelia and she lives in this house alone with her husband. It's every mother's worst nightmare, but this time there's no waking up from it.

Distraught and terrified, as Whitney tries to get to the bottom of her daughter's disappearance, she is forced to confront the secrets she thought she had outrun years before. With time running out to find Amelia, Whitney is forced to journey to the darkest parts of her history and piece together a puzzle that will be the difference between Amelia's life and her death.

This was very much a run of the mill book for me.
It was good but it wasn't great and therefore it wasn't all that memorable.
It was pretty slow overall and I felt like it took a while for me to really get into it or for it to even get going.
I didn't feel myself truly caring or empathising with any of the characters, which is never a great sign.
It is well written and the use of multiple POVs and perspectives with each chapter does add something to the pacing. But sadly I wasn't blown away by this book.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Whitney drops her teenage daughter Amelia off for a sleepover and does not return home the next day.
Whitney is trying to find her daughter and the more that she digs is feeling that she does not know her daughter as she thought she did.
As the search goes on, things pop up that lead Whitney to believe that Amelia disappearing is connected with her past.
Great read.

When Witney drops her teenage daughter Amelia off to stay the night at her new friends house, everything feels relatively normal. But when Witney returns to pick her up, an elderly couple answer the door and claim to know nothing about her daughter. Witney is sure its the right house, but without the address written down, she only has her memory to rely upon. Amelia isn t answering her phone and as the time goes on, Witney becomes increasingly worried for her daughter's welfare.

As the book continues we learn that Amelia has been keeping secrets, that there is more to her strange mood swings and secrecy in recent months that may help understand where she is now.

I really liked the concept of this storyline, but for me it fell a bit short, I found the book a little slow and used to reading fast paced thrillers with lots of twists, I'm afraid, this one struggled to hold my attention.

Amelia is a typical insolent, moody teenager who strives to have a greater level of independence than her mum, Whitney, is comfortable with. When Amelia is asked to a friends house for a sleepover, Whitney agrees but only if she can to drop her off. Whitney begins to feel concerned when she can’t contact Amelia and when she returns to the house the next day, she isn’t there and the elderly couple who answer the door have never heard of her friend Lauren.

In her quest to find Amelia, a confused and concerned Whitney uncovers a torrent of secrets including a fake Instagram account (Finsta) and rumours of a secret relationship. The more she digs, the more she discovers and begins to reveal secrets from her past which might be connected to Amelia’s disappearance.

The chapters alternated between present time, events in the weeks leading up to the drop off and also the hours before the drop off. I did feel there was some back story which didn’t need to be included but this didn’t spoil the overall enjoyment.

This was a well paced psychological thriller with an interesting storyline and one that I would recommend.

An addictive book - unputdownable! A very original storyline, and I genuinely did not see the end coming at all. I found it interesting the way the story kept flashing back to the mother's youth and I didn't think it was at all confusing cutting between the different stories. Would recommend to people interested in mystery novels, but not necessarily thrillers.

Thank you for NetGalley for supplying me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Where I Left Her plays on a parent’s worst fears…that of your child being dropped for a sleepover and then going missing. In this instance, the child is sixteen year old Amelia. We are told she’s been stroppy and secretive recently so our mind conjures up the obvious things that could be happening…but the truth is far stranger than anything you might conjure up.
The book begins fairly slowly. We are shown events unfolding in real time, and nothing seems that concerning until later on when we start to learn Amelia has been keeping secrets, there’s a new friend on the horizon, a mystery boyfriend for mum who may be hiding something and the hints that Whitney herself has been keeping secrets that she fears may be catching up with her.
I can’t help but feel the story is implausible from start to finish. The reactions of certain characters make little sense, even when we are given their rationale for behaving as they do, and I really struggled to believe that such a scenario as is painted here would not have drawn a little more attention over the years.
It’s important you know nothing more than the basic premise for this before you start reading. How you interpret events and motivations may vary, but you can certainly sit back and enjoy the ride you’re taken on.
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read this before publication.

I thought the premise of this book is very good - a mum drops of her daughter at her friends, only to return the next morning and discover that her friend doesn't even live there and her daughter is nowhere to be found. Slowly, bits and pieces come to light, depicting a slightly more sinister tale than expected. This book has all the good chunks of a thriller, I think it just suffered because it was me reading it. I've read so many thrillers now that it takes something truly spectacular to throw me, and I can usually suss out what the twists are before they happen. This is a good book, I just have to rate it lower in comparison to the many others of it's genre i've read

This was a good book overall. It is perfect for a holiday read. The characters are interesting. The plot is well constructed. There are some good little twists and turns throughout. Not as good as some other books from this genre but generally a tidy book.

Whitney had some misgivings when she dropped her increasingly moody teenage daughter, Amelia, off at Lauren's house. She'd never met the parents, and usually she'd go in, but Amelia clearly wasn't going to let something so humiliating happen, so instead Whitney waved to her daughter before pulling away from the house. But when she goes back the next day, an elderly couple answer the door - Amelia and Lauren aren't there, and the couple swear she's at the wrong house. So where is Amelia?

The story alternates between the present day, where Amelia is missing and flashbacks from the past as Whitney starts remembering significant events as Amelia found a new friend in Lauren. Whitney and Amelia had once been close. Whitney had a chequered past. We hear from someone unnamed talking about their best friend Millie. Eventually the past and present collide as we are slowly drip fed the information to understand what's been going on. At times, the pace can be slow, but stick with it as the ending is well worth it.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This book centres around Whitney. Whitney lives with her 16 year old daughter, Amelia. They had a close relationship until recently. Amelia is at that stage in her young life where she wants to try to ascertain some independence. Amelia asks her mum if she can stay at her friend, Lauren’s, house, and Whitney agrees on the condition that she drives her there. Whitney drops her off at Lauren’s, and Whitney doesn’t hear anything from her. The next day, Whitney decides to drive over to Lauren’s to get Amelia, but when she arrives, neither Amelia or Lauren are there. An elderly couple answer the door and insist they don’t know the girls, and only they live there. Whitney starts to investigate exactly where her daughter is, and in the process uncovers things she never knew about her daughter.

This book was ok, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as her previous book, When I Was You. The storyline was good, and the writing was ok. We read from multiple perspectives which kept the book jogging along. There were some really good red herrings, and surprises, but I felt no bonding with any of the characters. It was a good, solid read overall.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I have read something slightly similar a few months ago. It was a well written fast paced read with good characters that kept me involved in the storyline from the beginning until the end.

I can recommend this book and thank you to Netgalley and The Little Brown Book Group for allowing me to read this book.

I was quite intrigued with the creepy and mysterious premise. Instead this is a drama about mother and daughter relationships. Single mom Whitney is trying not to be overbearing so she agrees to let her daughter Amelia sleep overnight at Lauren’s house without having met her parents. She will regret this decision when she picks up Amelia at the house, but she’s not there. Whitney retraces her steps, looking at Amelia’s social media accounts, and discovering secrets. The story alternates between current events and Whitney’s past with her best friend Millie. It was a good start, but took a turn half way through. Thank you to NetGalley and Mira Books for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

Oh wow! I have literally just picked my jaw up off the floor. This is a really great read. The author really ramps up the tension throughout the story but the last chapter totally blew me away. There are several twists throughout the book but I hadn't even considered that ending. This is definitely the best book I have read this year. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
