Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Merritt Sterling is running a shipping company since her husband passed away unexpectedly and now she's in charge of it and then she meets Keir MacRae, a handsome scottish man who is a distiller.

Well, I have to say the romance was a bit too instalovey for my liking. I get the instant attraction, but they went from attraction to love too quickly for me. There was a nice chemistry between them and they were good characters. Also it was good to see some characters from the other books.

However, I'm not sure I liked the connection to the other characters. I don't want to spoil it (although you can problably imagine if you read the other books) but it just didn't work for me and there's another plot involving someone trying to kill Keir that it was so uninteresting that made the book drag for me.

Lady Merritt Sterling, a young widow, runs a shipping company. She married sensibly, to a man she wasn’t passionate about and has no desire to marry again. Enter Keir McRae, a rough giant of a man, owner of a Scottish whiskey distillery. Despite being complete opposites in every way (including geographically) their is an immediate attraction.

This is a typical period romance, the lead characters are drawn to each other pretty much straight away, despite being adamant they don’t intend to fall in love. Throw in the anachronistically modern sex scenes and inevitable obstacles (including a mystery surrounding parentage, the differences in social classes, threats to life and amnesia) before the obligatory happy ending.

I did find the Scottish phonetic speech off-putting, for example “mither” isn’t the correct pronunciation for mother (and to me is a northern English colloquial/slang word meaning to pester someone). It is a well written novel, aside from few other Americanisms. I would read more from the author.

Lady Merritt Sterling (daughter of Marcus, Lord Westcliff and Lillian from It Happened One Autumn has run her husband's shipping business since his untimely death. She has no interest or intention of ever marrying again, until Keir MacRae bursts into her office.

Keir MacRae is a rough Scottish whisky manufacturer, more comfortable with the men on the wharf than the aristocracy, but no-one can deny the instant attraction between him and the beautiful Lady Merritt.

The two of them are not permitted to indulge their attraction for long before Keir is the subject of not one but two assassination attempts. Who can want to kill him and why?

I'm not normally a fan of romances featuring Scotsman (because of the 'och aye the noo' brogue) but I have to say I fell in love with Keir. He may be rough around the edges, but he's honourable and kind and absolutely gorgeous under that scruffy beard.

Lisa Kleypas has knocked it out of the park with this one, drama, romance, steam and whisky, what more could you want?

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I loved this book so much - it might be one of my new favourite books by Lisa Kleypas, with the trademark elements which make her books so emotional and gripping. Both Merritt and Keir were so loveable, but also distinct from other LK stories (no words can do them justice). We also got to meet several of the Wallflowers again (and LK always makes these interactions so smooth and natural). I’m definitely going to be in a major book hangover after reading this.

Ahmazing. No words. Every thing I expected. Best part were Lillian and Sébastien. They always steal the show.
