One Lucky Summer by Jenny Oliver is an utterly charming read that’s perfect for this time of year. I loved escaping between the pages of this book, with its heartwarming tale of family secrets, love and friendship.

Ruben de Lacy has returned to his family home, the once idyllic Willoughby Hall, hoping to complete the sale that will see him say goodbye to his childhood home forever. But fate has other ideas and Ruben, much to his chagrin, suddenly finds himself in charge of his twelve year old daughter, Zadie, whilst her mother goes away on honeymoon.

But then a freak accident leads to Zadie and Ruben uncovering the first clue to a treasure hunt, a discovery that brings long hidden memories flooding back. Ruben soon realises that he needs to contact Dolly and Olive, his childhood friends who lived in a tumbledown cottage in the grounds of Willoughby Hall. Can the former childhood friends piece together the clues and finally solve the treasure hunt? And will solving the mystery help them to understand what exactly it was that happened to their families all those years ago?

One Lucky Summer is a lovely but emotional read that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. It is a beautifully written story of family secrets, love and friendship. The burgeoning relationship between father and daughter is a pure delight, with Ruben growing as a person as he slowly learns the true meaning of being a father at long last.

Jenny Oliver’s writing is gorgeous and One Lucky Summer is a charming summer read that I would recommend.

I absolutely adored this book. Jenny Oliver's writing is funny and romantic at the same time, whilst addressing some tough issues. From Ruben, Dolly & Olive's backstory to the current time where Ruben's daughter, Zadie is in the mix.

When Ruben discovers the first clue to the treasure hunt, this becomes both a trail for the actual treasure hunt that Dolly and Olive's father has laid for the girls; along with a treasure hunt for the parallel treasure of the relationships that were left on hold in their teenage years. There is so much character development, it is exciting to be a part of.

From Fox and Olive: a working partnership that becomes a friendship... and more... to that of a young daughter looking for a relationship with her father. This is whilst dealing with the past hurts and relationships of friends and their parents.

I would recommend this book to anyone and looking forward to the author's next book.

A long time ago terrible things happened to two families.
And now they’re back together taking part in a treasure hunt to find old secrets and treasures.
Old stories, tensions and secrets clash together to a thrilling conclusion.

I've been a Jenny Oliver fan since her very first book and this book is another clear example of why I will continue to be a fan! It is a truly uplifting and fabulous romance escapism that is a must-read this summer.

Lighthearted enjoyable summer read. A fun book full of adventures and covers friendship and family ties. Cornish setting makes it perfect for a summer read.

A really warm and funny story, with a few tears along the way. Great characters, all very different, thoroughly enjoyed it.

A very pleasant read, nothing earth shattering but a nice story. The story follows the relationships between all the main characters - there’s Olive and her younger sister, Dolly who has just been suspended from her police job. Dolly and her colleague, Fox, who really don’t get on or like each other at the start and the two sisters’ relationship with their Aunt Marge, who took them in when they were in their early teens. Then there’s Ruben, Olive’s first boyfriend many years ago and now father to twelve year old Zadie, who he’s only just found out about!
Together, they all undertake a treasure hunt, set by Olive & Dolly’s father, where he claimed he had found gold on his last world adventure. But did he really and if so, will they be able to solve all the clues and find it?
As I say, a really nice read, where I did enjoy the development of all the characters and in particular, the interactions between them.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review, which is what I have given.

This is a beautiful, heart-warming and feel-good book which is all about making memories and friendships.

I loved the treasure hunt which in my humble opinion is easily the best part of the whole book, but that doesn't overshadow the gorgeous story of the friendship between the most charming characters you will ever meet; Ruben, Dolly and Olive are delightful.

The characters are all beautifully developed and I love the journey they go on as they hunt down the secrets and put the clues together to find the answers, I really enjoyed the mystery and the journey we go on with these wonderful characters.

This is utterly charming, it's full of summery magic a beautiful read!

Found the main protagonist highly unlikeable so couldn't chug through this book, despite the humour and the general well-written feel of it. Did not really enjoy it because of Ruben, though

I’m always drawn by a country house with mystery, and One Lucky Summer had that in abundance. Relatable characters and a beautiful backdrop made this a gorgeous read.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.

Well I wasn't expecting to see a real life treasure hunt in any of the books I was reading this holiday, but that is definitely what's at the centre of this book.

Well that, and the chance for Ruben, Olive and Dolly to revisit their childhood and see if they can make sense of their memories,

Add in Zadie, Ruben's daughter who he barely knows but is in charge of for two weeks, and who is a complete chatterbox and you have a great combination of factors to keep you reading.

I adored Zadie, with her quick fire either questions or firing pieces of information at you non stop, without a chance for anyone to respond or breathe!

It was her energy in addition to Dolly's feistiness and ability to keep landing up in sticky situations that had me hooked.

I found the pages of this book whizzed by while I was barely able to keep up with how much I was enjoying it and how quickly the percentage meter was ticking upwards.

I really loved these characters and once again Jenny Oliver has written a fabulous story.

Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I was expected a light hearted and frothy romance however this was more twisty and wistful. Exploration of relationships and connections to the past are the basis of this story. It’s enjoyable but there’s something missing to make it incredible.

Thank you Netgalley.

Not my favourite Jenny Oliver book but an enjoyable read.
Based around a very unusual treasure hunt, bringing together two estranged sisters Dollie and Olive . As usual in Jenny’s books the characters come alive to the reader and the plot was good and flowed well .
A pleasant read
Thank you to Netgalley, HQ books and Jenny for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review

Olive and Dolly spent their childhood living in a cottage on the grounds of Willoughby Hall, the estate owned by the De Lacy family.

The girl’s father sets up a treasure hunt for them but tragedy means that the girls leave before completing it.

Years later, Ruben De Lacy is back at his family’s estate. By accident, he uncovers the first clue in that last treasure hunt.

Can the three of them solve the clues and work through what happened between their families all those years ago?

First, I want to say how much I loved the cover to this novel. It’s so pretty.

I really loved the premise of this novel and so I was eager to be part of the blog tour. Mystery, lost love and treasure hunts.

Told from the point of view of Ruben, Olive and Dolly, it gave me a real insight into what each of them were feeling and how three people can remember events so different and then, how that perspective can bring clarity.

Olive and Dolly have been running from their shared past for so long and have such a misunderstanding of each other. It was interesting to see how their relationship developed through the book.

Yes, this book covers themes of lost love but it also looks at how that isn’t just restricted to romantic love. Family love can be lost. I really wanted them both be OK.

The character that frustrated me the most was actually Ruben. To begin with, there isn’t much to redeem him. Whether he does get better is something I hope you’ll find out for yourself.

The setting for this book was lovely and so vivid. I could see myself at this house, in the sun, with these characters. Can I go there?

One Lucky Summer is a book about love, relationships, family and self discovery. It’s a unique, beautifully written novel that has humour and warmth. There were heartbreaking moments as well as life affirming ones. I didn’t want to leave these characters behind .

It’s a perfect book to get lost in regardless of whether it’s sunny outside.
