I've really enjoyed reading this book. It didnt take me long to complete when I was fully invested and who doesn't love a book with a treasure map.

It's my first book by Jenny Oliver but it wont be my last.

I thought the characters were really well developed and the book was wonderfully descriptive. You could really picture the scenes.

A good summer read ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A thoroughly enjoyable read, which has elements of suspense, romance and adventure rolled into one. I would recommend One Lucky Summer for an enjoyable easy read which will keep you guessing until the end.

I’m usually a straight up romance book kind of person so I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did. One Lucky Summer is set in Willoughby Hall, which was once childhood home to Ruben de Lacy. Not long after being back he gets his daughter dumped on his doorstep and uncovers a years old treasure hunt.

One Lucky Summer is full of fantastic characters and there was no one I disliked. I found all of them real, relatable in some way and I both wanted to know more about them all and for them to have the endings they deserved. Each of them had something special to offer to the story to make it all gel together properly.

The mystery part of the story was actually my favourite. The treasure hunt took everyone on a real adventure and it was a lot of fun to read.

One Lucky Summer is the latest book from Jenny Oliver. It follows the story of Reuben, Dolly and Olive. Willoughby Hall was Reuben’s idyllic childhood home. Dolly and Olive lived in a cottage on the grounds. When Reuben uncovers a secret treasure hunt from the past, he calls on Dolly and Olive to help solve the clues. This was a fun read with some great characters that I enjoyed. It wasn’t my favourite book by Jenny but still very enjoyable. I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.

One Lucky Summer by Jenny Oliver is a powerful contemporary novel about overcoming the past.
Childhood friends meet again after many years. As they explore old haunts, the past memories come flooding back. Some have been imprisoned by the past. They need to face it, deal with it and move forwards into the future.
We witness that fears we had as children will remain as we grow older unless we change our outlook or our behaviour. We see a character afraid to love and who therefore keeps others at arm’s length.
Actions of parents impact their children for life. There was an event in childhood which looms large in the lives of three adults even now.
The characters were well drawn and realistic. I loved the young girl who was wise beyond her years, full of knowledge and life.
You are never too old to have a new beginning and to put events of the past behind you.
One Lucky Summer was a powerful read that I thoroughly enjoyed and read in just one sitting.
I received a free copy from Harper Collins via Net Galley. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

At first I thought this was another run of the mill chick lit book, but it is significantly better. The story develops, the pace is good and the characters interesting. I really enjoyed it, and can’t wait for the next book by Jenny Oliver.

This is a very enjoyable, well written book where the descriptive writing really brought it to life.
The characters were disparate but well rounded and believable, I liked them all!
The story was engrossing, not edge of your seat thriller or play with your mind psychological, but a compassionate tale of relationships and reflection.and of course forgiveness and acceptance.
I am glad I read it.

This was a delightful story, written in such a way that all the ups and downs and problems of life are solved. A great group of characters in interesting surroundings, with a puzzle to solve. Very satisfying conclusion.

Living in Cornwall this book was particularly evocative to read. The descriptions of my home county were alive and colourful.
Basically the book's story hangs on a treasure hunt, follwed by Ruben de Lacy and childhood friends Olive and Dolly who live nearby Willoughby Hall. It's a pleasant story, but i never quite felt deeply involved, though i love Jenny Oliver's books.
Thank you for a chance to read and review this book.

For Ruben De Lacy, growing up at Willoughby Manor was far from perfect, despite the idyllic location.
Thankfully, he had the friendship of Olive and Dolly King who lived in a tumbledown cottage within the grounds of the estate with their eccentric father and free-spirited mother.

Now Rubens back to sell up, and the memories flooding back aren’t all good ones. But when he uncovers a clue to a treasure hunt that has remained hidden for decades, Ruben knows he is going to need Olive and Dolly’s help.

With the three estranged friends reunited at Willoughby, can they work together to solve the mystery and finally face what happened decades ago when the treasure hunt was laid?

After only discovering Jenny Oliver last year, and absolutely loving her writing, I was thrilled to receive her latest novel on NetGalley.

One Lucky Summer offers a pleasing romantic comedy but with a little more depth than you would usually expect from this genre. I found the multi-strand narrative worked really well for this story as it allowed the reader to see how each protagonist had interpreted, and dealt with, the same scenarios very differently. I think this technique made Olive, Dolly and Ruben highly relatable, and it was interesting to see how circumstance and unresolved feelings contributed to their personalities as adults.

Set against the backdrop of the Cornish coastline, this book is filled with dazzling descriptions that really brought the Willoughby estate to life. Almost as though it was a character in its own right. Having lived in Cornwall my whole life until 4 months ago this setting was somewhat bittersweet. The sights, smells and sounds of the coastal woodland and seaside were so impeccably written that they came alive off the page and even those that haven’t experienced this landscape would find them tangible.

This is the perfect story for a few hours of summer escapism, and I highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this one - a great cast of very different characters, warm, funny but also lots of wisdom and reflection. I’d love to know what happens to them all next - more of their story please!

I'm giving this four stars as I would have liked a bit more in the way of romance, especially between Ruben and Olive. I liked all the characters, particularly the young girl, Zadie, and Fox. This story is more about putting to rest the ghosts of the past, than it is a romance. Olive, Ruben and Dolly each do a lot if introspection. If I'm honest, I'm surprised it took them 20 years to return to Willoughby Hall, but there you go. A good read and I was sorry it ended. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this enjoyable read from the very first page. How could you go wrong, with very good characters, Cornwall and a treasure hunt, wow, that made another great book from Jenny Oliver. Her books never disappoint and this was no different. Well worth 5 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC

Wow!! I have so loved reading this book! Made me smile, got me thinking, what a treat!
The characters are just brilliant, the story is involving, thought provoking, and so well thought out.
Ruben, Olive and Dolly have led very different lives since they were teenagers together in Cornwall, now they are meeting up to resolve clues to a long forgotten treasure hunt which brings up what happened with their families back then, and how it had formed their lives.
Especially loved the character of Fox, and the adventures these three got up to.
Great writing, great reading!
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the early read

I loved this book, it grabbed me right away and I raced through it. I’ve read books by Jenny before and I’ve always enjoyed them immensely. This one was no exception. It was such a fun read, it was funny and I enjoyed the fact that there was a treasure hunt in this book. The characters were great and I got a vivid picture of them and the mansion. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review..

T his year’s summer read from Jenny Oliver is a real treat. It’s so refreshing to read a book where the main characters are flawed and yet ultimately likeable. Sisters, Olive and Dolly, had become estranged in recent years and the story of their chaotic childhood unfolds through the summer ‘treasure hunt’ they undertake with Reuben and his daughter, Zadie. Zadie is such a character - I loved her .
What an enjoyable, escapist few hours I spent - barely coming up for air from start to finish! Take it on holiday- you won’t regret it!

One Lucky Summer - Jenny Oliver

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HQ and I am leaving this review voluntarily

With an air of faded splendour, Willoughby Hall was an idyllic childhood home to Ruben de Lacy. Gazing at it now, decades later, the memories are flooding back, and not all of them are welcome…

In a tumbledown cottage in Willoughby’s grounds, Dolly and Olive King lived with their eccentric explorer father. One of the last things he did was to lay a treasure hunt before he died, but when events took an unexpected turn, Dolly and Olive left Willoughby for good, never to complete it.

This is a great read for a lazy summer afternoon, or to be read whilst on holiday. It is a fun plot, full of adventure and has well-developed characters brought together by an uncompleted treasure hunt.

Rating 4/5

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I thought this book was a gentle, fun read.

The setting of the story, made for perfect summer or on holiday reading,

The story behind the present day going on and how the characters were developed was really good. Along with twists and unknown secrets, it kept me page turning to find out what happens next.

Love this authors books.

This was okay…a nice lighthearted read, I was disappointed that the plot was pretty generic, and there was no surprises or anything particularly original.

However, a nice easy beach read.
