Rueben, Olive and Dolly were childhood friends who were separated by tragic events when they were teenagers. When Rueben finds a clue to a treasure hunt left behind by Olive and Dolly’s father he contacts them to help. Revisiting their childhood home opens everyone up to emotions and fears that had been hidden for many years. Can they all face the past and move on with their futures? I loved this book as it had so many twists and turns that you could not predict what wad going to happen next.

Hugely enjoyable summer read. Friends and sisters torn apart years before unite to take part in a last treasure hunt - will it bring them all back together?

Following the death of his father, Ruben returns to his family home. An interesting read with some twists and romance threaded throughout. Like-able characters within a great setting. Jenny Oliver never disappoints.

Broken relationships, past and present. Parents, siblings and lovers all mixed up.
How the past shaped the here and now. It needed unpicking to move forward but will it result in a happy ending?
A delightful tale that has your routing for different people in the story and recognise people and your own behaviour in the characters.

There is something very nostalgic about the return to Willoughby Hall by Dolly and Olive, invited by Reuben for one last treasure hunt. The descriptions of the surroundings are evocative and the personailities of the man three contrasting beautifully with each other.
Harking back to their childhoods the story explores the hall, its grounds and the tumbledown cottage once occupied by the girls and their eccentric parents but also the emotions and experiences of "that"summer that formed the girls and Reuben into the adults they now are.
Sibling rivalry, misunderstandings, secrets and lies are all uncovered as each clue is found and the three main characters grow closer as a result with a great pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

This is a hugely enjoyable summer read with some stonking characters who were childhood friends until life tore them apart and are now flawed adults united by a treasure hunt. Ruben isn’t very good at being a grown up so caring for his estranged but enthusiastic eleven year old daughter doesn’t come easily too him, Olive lives a quietly unemotional life and Dolly has bottled up all her emotions leading to her being a very unconventional police officer but for me the most enjoyable of characters as I loved her hotheadedness and frustration. This is a simple story but the characters really make it both in their exploits now and their reminiscences both good and bad of how their lives were and the impact their pasts had on them.

This was a fun, gentle read, perfect for a summer afternoon or holiday read. The setting of most of the action, near the sea in Cornwall, made this feel very summery, although it wasn't the usual beachy read.
I enjoyed reading this book, I felt that the backstory and the well developed characters made for an interesting starting point, with sufficient uncertainty and small twists to keep the unusual and quite clever plot going. Having the character of the daughter, Zadie, there, brought another dimension to the usual will-they-won't-they romances,

A fun and entertaining holiday read a bit like a Famous Five adventure for grown-ups. Delightful characters all trying to make sense of past events and addressing their various issues. Throw in a smattering of romance, a touch of humour, a sprinkling of eccentricity all mixed up with the underlying intrigued of a treasure hunt. A true escapism with a warm hearted feel.

This is a perfect summer read, I flew through this. A treasure hunt with a twist, not just to find treasure but an opportunity for everyone involved to face some ghosts, put the past behind them and explore new relationships. At times I did find the characters a little annoying and self centipedes but I feel this was the point because by the end of the book, I had grown to understand why and I loved the, by the end. A perfect beach read

Two sisters estranged and forced together for a summer treasure hunt set by their dad. On the side lines two confused but hunky blokes. A super summer romance. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.

One Lucky Summer is an entertaining story about teenage friends, Ruben and Olive. Together with Olive’s younger sister, Dolly, they meet again years later when Ruben discovers a clue to a treasure hunt set by Olive and Dolly’s dad before events turned their lives upside down. Will coming together to solve the clues help them put the past behind them?

A lovely summer story with a good mix of characters which was an easy and enjoyable read.

Well rounded characters are at the heart of this book. Three were children together but still have issues to sort out as they grew up. A fun story, some intrigue and some romance. Ideal summer read.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the advance copy of this book.

3.5 rounded up to 4

Ruben de Lacy is back at the home where he grew up. He finds the first clue to a long forgotten treasure a hunt. A treasure hunt laid by the father of Olive and Dolly King. The King family had lived in a cottage on the estate until one fateful summer when everything had changed. With the rediscovery of the clue Ruben knows he must let Olive and Dolly know so they can complete it.

This novel is the perfect summer read. It has some romance, a treasure hunt and lots of history needing resolution between the main characters. Dolly and Olive are both very different but likeable characters, both having their own issues stemming from the summer in question. Ruben starts off as very shallow and unlikable, but by the end of the story redeems himself. It’s happy endings all round, a lovely bit of escapism.

"One Lucky Summer" is an enjoyable tale of relationships both old and new. Rubn, Olive and Molly had shared an idyllic childhood in Cornwall until the adults turned their world upside down. Now they are reunited for one last treasure hunt. But what is the real treasure??? Good escapist fun and romance.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

Ruben de Lacy has returned to his family's home Willoughby Hall for one final time before selling it. Shallow, wealthy and good-looking Ruben is surprised when his ex-girlfriend Jenny arrives with their twelve year-old daughter Zadie in tow - apparently he had agreed to look after Zadie while Jenny and her new husband Barry go on their honeymoon.

Looking after a young chubby daughter with dubious dress sense isn't Ruben's idea of a good time. Then he stumbles across a little plastic box which is part of a treasure hunt which had been set up years before and never took place. The treasure hunts were a very big thing in his childhood and he can't envisage doing this without the two girls who's father created the hunt in the first place; Olive and Dolly.

Olive has just been dumped by her very boring and respectable boyfriend Mark. Dolly has just been suspended from her job as a police officer for disobeying orders. For their own reasons they both return to Willoughby Hall for one last treasure hunt. But returning to Cornwall forces each of them to face what happened the night the treasure hunt was laid, to address feelings that have been suppressed for decades and to make peace. It's going to be a heck of a summer!

I've got to say that I thought this was going to be more of a romantic comedy, a la Katie Fforde, based on the cover. Whereas, this is more women's fiction. There's a lot of remembering the past and giving voice to past feelings, about owning emotions and letting them go. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable to watch all three of them finally lay the ghosts to rest and look forward to the future.

Recommended for lazy summer reading in the garden.

A beautiful book of fun, adventurous and bonding relationships. All the characters were rounded and well developed and they helped to make the book come alive.

When Olive and Dolly joined Reuben in the scavenger hunt, it made the story so much fun. This was my first book by this author and the writing made it a heart touching read. One of my most uplifting read that brought a smile to my face.

I absolutely adored this book filled with wonderful characters. I fell in love with Reuben, Olive, Dolly, Fox, Zadie and Aunt Marge and was happily dragged along by the plot, imagining myself joking them on their hunt, not only for buried family treasure, but for peace and putting the past to rest. What’s not to love about a big house, a warm summer, the sea and a fabulous adventure. Highly recommended and I couldn’t put it down. I hope there is a sequel as I’d love to know what happens to the house, derelict cottage and the newly forged relationships. Fabulous!
