This is such a beautifully illustrated book, it’s such a lovely story ,my girls loved it as they love unicorns and horses, it was a great hit, but also great to explain about not going off by yourself. Perfect

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I live Catherine Rayner’s books and in Mini and Hardly and the Big Adventure she has done it again. This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of 2 young unicorns who want to have an adventure. When they travel further than they meant to, and have a couple of scary moments, they are very relieved when Mum comes to rescue then and take them home.
As well as being a lovely story, and a gorgeous book to look at, this could also be used as a forum for discussing safety and why it's important not to go off by yourself.
Would read aloud well for 3 years plus in a group setting.

This is a beautifully written and illustrated book about two unicorns who want to grow up too fast. It is a simple story that explains to children that they are just perfect as they are and not to try to rush things. I read this to my 4 year old son who loves unicorns and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Books for my ARC.

Another really beautiful picture book from Catherine Rayner that looks at the desire to grow up quickly versus the comfort of being young. The illustrations as ever are exquisite, with some particularly stunning spreads such as the storm at sea. The story follows the two young unicorns as they try being more grown up than they are, until they find themselves alone and fearful. It does end well with the reassurance of comfort from their mother, and how nice it is being small. It's a nice story well told and the characters of Mini and Hardly are lovely. Delightful.

Mini and Hardly and the Big Adventure is a dreamy book about two little unicorns, one little one and one even smaller. They desperately want to be grown up and do all the things big unicorns can do. They head off on a big adventure however all too soon things become a little perilous. Not to worry, they soon get rescued and realise the advantages of being tiny.

The illustrations are sublime and evoke gentle emotions as you saunter through this heavenly book. Catherine Rayner being both illustrator and author means the symbiotic relationship between text and images are perfect. The feelings of the two little unicorns are mirrored beautifully in the pictures. The weather on each page affecting and reflecting their emotions.

This is a magical book that I would highly recommend.

Floss (aged 4) - I loved it. They got a little bit scared when they were pretending to be big, but it was ok and they found out it was good to be small.

What I guess are watercolours illustrate this volume where two young little unicorns (of the flying variety, no less) are so determined to grow up and be big and strong and stay up all night and have adventures, that they, well, get in a pickle. The moral is obvious, so it's a little annoying the text pads out the ending with their dialogue, even long after we've all worked out what's what. Added to the fact I wasn't a huge fan of the artwork style, whatever form it took, and I think three and a half stars is my max. It's certainly worth a look, but is no classic imho.

This is such a gorgeous story about two little unicorns who want to be more grown up.
They want to be able to 'gallop faster,' 'eat whatever they want' and 'stay up all night long.' They decide to go on an adventure but when thunder and lightning strike they get scared. They are very relieved to see their mum and realise that it is actually very nice to be looked after and they shouldn't be in such a rush to grow up.
My favourite line from this book is 'Being small makes you perfect for the biggest of cuddles.'
My daughter loved this book. The illustrations of unicorns are stunning and so realistic. Such a great story that all children can relate too as well. The perfect book to read at bedtime with lots of lovely cuddles!
