The Summer We Turned Green offers a unique take on climate activism and family dynamics, all wrapped in a coming-of-age story. It has a strong message about the environment and the choices we make, which feels particularly relevant for younger readers growing up in today’s world.
There are some humorous and heartwarming moments, and the book makes you think about how far people will go for their beliefs. However, the tone didn’t always strike the right balance for me, and some of the characters felt a little exaggerated at times. I appreciated the bold approach to a difficult topic, even if the story didn’t always fully connect.
This would be a good choice for readers interested in topical issues, activism and stories that explore change and growth.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Very funny. The author filled this book with brilliant lines especially those that mocked the parents. These are bound to be a big hit with readers. The topic of the environment was a very good one and a great plot

#TheSummerWeTurnedGreen is the first book by #WilliamSutcliffe that I have read. Wow, who would have thought the topic of #ClimateChange could be the basis for an engaging story. This is a great way for young readers to scratch the surface of the role of protest and activism. Thanks to #Netgalley for gifting this to me in exchange for an honest review.

I received this as an ARC on NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review

Good:
- Climate Activism!!!
- Realistic storyline! It felt so so real
- Characters from interesting backgrounds
Bad:
- Predictable
I loved this! A fresh and relevant story following a boy who lives on the non-condemned half of a road that is to be destroyed for an airport nearby to expand. He lives a separate life to the commune that has moved in to the house over the road, until one day his sister decides to join them.
This book discusses relevant topics in a storyline that was funny and enjoyable, if a little predictable at times. The characters explored came from different backgrounds, had rocky relationships, and weren't perfect, and that was the charm. I honestly feel I could look to the news tomorrow and see this story on there!
Hilarious, real and exciting!
I would recommend this book to anyone who cares about the climate (or parents that want to introduce their kids to this), friends aged 8-15, and anyone who loves a good laugh.
Overall: 5/5

This story is told from the point of view of thirteen-year-old Luke, who has just had his life turned completely upside down. Climate rebels, family issues and being 'different' are cleverly covered in this fun book.

A good story highlighting environmental issues in a subtle way.
It approaches the subject from a teenagers point of view and tackles some stereotypes and misconceptions.
Definitely worth reading, some amusing passages tucked into the pages and it has a solid storyline to draw you in.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
