I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

A slowly-unravelling read that I honestly had my doubts about in the beginning... but it definitely got better! The shocking twists kept coming! A certainly unpredictable reveal that was very smartly written. Can't wait to read more from this author.

She's Mine was my first A.A. Chaudhuri novel, and I couldn't put it down, so it definitely won't be my last! I liked that the story went back and forth between the past and present and that it was told from different perspectives. This book is full of twists and secrets, and I couldn't wait to find out the truth about Heidi's disappearance. The ending was great, and I didn't see it coming at all.. This is an amazing thriller, and I'm so glad I discovered this author...thanks to NetGalley and Hera Books for giving the opportunity to read and review She's Mine. : )

The characters are awful people, the storyline is dark, and the ending is completely twisted. The makings of a perfect book.

I went into She’s Mine expecting a decent read but nothing too original. I’m glad I was proved wrong. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book like this. The author held no bounds when unveiling twists your eyes won’t believe you have read. And the best part? You won’t really feel sorry for any of the characters because they are all deplorable.

She’s Mine is also probably the first book I’ve read with multiple first-person narratives that really works. Some characters narrate for a lot of the book, others turn up for just a couple of chapters. However, each chapter is exactly how it’s meant to be.

I really like the Synopsis of this book, which is what reeled me in. However I didn’t enjoy the writing style and wasn’t what i thought it was going to be. It took a while to like the characters and that is something i find important when reading a book.

Thank you netgalley for an early copy

Story of the book-

This book starts twenty years prior, Christine Donovan accepted a call she ought to have disregarded while shopping. In those couple of moments while her back was turned, her baby, Heidi, was captured. She’s never been seen again. Having two different kids with her significant other Greg, Christine remains responsibility stricken that her disregard made her kid be taken, while tormented by a secret that burns through her. Similarly, as she takes measures to mend her mistakes, a note is passed through her entryway, with the words she has consistently yearned to hear: Heidi isn’t dead. Christine May, at last, finds the solutions she hungers for yet what she can be sure of is that discovering her girl will reveal her dark secrets which she had kept very closely. In looking for reality, Christine may annihilate all that she adores, so how far would she go to discover Heidi?

My review-

In this twisty suspenseful thrill ride, layers stowed away underneath the surface that gradually uncover themselves to the readers. Complicatedly woven and expertly plotted, the author handily makes a lobby of purposeful misdirection where nothing is what it appears, and each time the readers think that they have sorted it out, that things couldn’t get any more dark, evil, or stunning, the author pulls the mat from under them and leave their jaw on the floor. This story is overflowing with the climate that has strain jumping from the pages. It takes the readers on a wild ride, their hearts beating as they submerge themselves in this tangled round of vengeance. My mind was brimming with such countless speculations and doubts, and I was unable to turn the pages sufficiently quick, incapable to dismiss as things spiraled increasingly wilder.

The author recounts the story according to different perspectives and different courses of events, consistently moving among them and making an association between the readers and each character. It offers us a brief look at the fuller picture. It permits us to investigate their most profound recollections, dreams, and imaginations in a way that wouldn’t have been conceived if we’d just had a couple of perspectives. The thing I adored about this story is the complex, broken, and unlikeable characters. Nobody is blameless, nobody is blameworthy. It is a hard accomplishment to put off composing such countless unlikeable characters while additionally making them convincing, yet the author does as such with artfulness, figuring out how to add thoughtful characteristics to even the most awful characters.

She’s Mine is a dark, shrewd, distorted, and emotional suspenseful thrill ride that genuinely knocked my socks off. Furthermore, the ending was amazing. It was difficult to foresee, my jaw was on the floor when the criminal was exposed and the reality of the situation was uncovered. This is by a wide margin probably the best thrill ride I’ve pursued in quite a while. I cannot recommend this book more!

Choo Choo, believability has left the station and pulling in is a dark, psychological thriller with characters you will hate until the very end. From multiple narrator perspectives, A.A. Chaudhuri tells the story of missing Heidi and the impact her disappearance had on everyone connected to her. Her mother's failures, her father's unhappiness, their new unloved children, and the friends that stay by their side. Only, nothing is ever as it seems in a thriller. What started out exceptionally slow turns into a fast paced thriller that would've only been better had it been somewhat believable and written in a different narrative style. The plot gives much away, but somehow kept me guessing and despite the irritants I found myself addicted to completing this novel.

I hated the ever changing narrators, I hated how their perspective was written as though speaking or writing to an unknown "you" that we as readers had to guess, and I really didn't enjoy the inability for characters to accept actions. A.A. Chaudhuri allows each character to justify their actions and in turn has more than one character commit suicide, something that can be triggering for readers in just one instance, let alone multiple. Yes, it's dark and twisted, but for me it became quite contrived.

I think some readers will love this, it's certainly one I'd like to discuss with others, but I admit it just wasn't the right thriller read for me.

I was given an advanced copy of this text by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Well-written by Chaudhuri, but a tough read knowing people who have had traumatic situations with their kids. Trigger-warning for sure.
