It’s taken me a very long time to get around to reading this book, it wasn’t what I really expected, I was a little disappointed as not much happened. I found it rather slow throughout.. apart from the ending which was good and not what I had expected. The characters were pretty annoying, the story itself could have been so much better but the style of writing was perfect. This is the first book that I have read by this author, unfortunately this wasn’t for me.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

The story is written from two perspectives. The characters are complex and not all are unlikeable. It is written well and is fast paced. A great book

This was a really enthralling premise that had me hooked from start to finish. It does start with a slow pace, but once that pace picks up, there's no putting the book soon.

Enjoyed the premise of the plot, although I did find some of the characters quite annoying. It's a gripping read though and I'm looking forward to reading more from the author.

Great book! Definitely one to pick up if you like a good thriller and mystery. It was a different subject base than most thrillers which made it fun to read.

This book has everything. Drama secrets. Relationship woes. It had a great plot that played out. It was very well written. It was a slow burner. But soon picked up pace.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

A rollercoaster of a book. 8 people survived a plane crash. They are a mix of people but when 1 is found dead and another is missing the others are understandably scared. I read this in 1 sitting. Couldn’t put it down!

This book started well but then I found it a bit boring in the middle and nearly gave up.

However towards the end it improved. But some of the characters made silly decisions and I didn't like them or cared about them.

I liked the two police detectives and would read more books by this author with them in it.

Average book , rated 3/5

Can you imagine surviving a plan crash that has killed 160 people? Such is the position for the eight who do just that, and who are then dubbed “The Lucky Eight” from that point onwards. Each of them lost a loved one that day, as well as incurring life-changing injuries, if not physical then the mental and emotional strain would be immense. That crash changed their lives, and with it came a lot of guilt for having survived.

Each year, they gather together to honour those who died and to support each other going forward. It’s not been easy for any of them, but some are struggling more than others.

Clodagh Kinsella lost her sister that day, and also suffers from a lapse in memory of a few hours of that day, hours in which she feels instinctively that something important happened. Now, living with her sister’s husband, those niggles are more apparent than ever. It is she who finds the dead body of victim number one, a man who had texted her because he had something to tell her, and now she’ll never know what he had to say. Was it about those missing hours? Did he know something?

For someone supposedly called “lucky”, poor Clodagh would dispute that claim, especially when she finds a second body, also from a fellow survivor who had texted her with something important to tell her. Now both people who wanted to tell her something are dead, and she is reliving those moments over and over, catching mere glimpses of memory but, frustratedly, not enough to make any sense. Why were Nick and Tara killed? Will she be next? Or is she to blame? These are the questions that now haunt her as her relationship falls apart – as if she didn’t have enough to worry about.

Leading the investigation, and in charge of a major case for the first time, is Rachel Lewis. She doubts herself, and worries she’s not up to the job, despite her team having the utmost confidence in her. As she and her officers unravel the clues, they are led in many directions and under significant pressure to close the case. At one point, they seem to have the culprit in custody, but something doesn’t feel right about it. Rachel has to trust her instincts to catch the killer before another of The Lucky Eight becomes victim number three.

This is a page-turning read with many twists along the way. The main characters are well fleshed out and the reader gets to know them quite well and, in so doing, wants them to succeed. There’s one bugbear for me, and that is being told so many times that there’s “something important” for Clodagh to know, and then for that snippet of information to be unforthcoming at every opportunity – that felt a little convenient for the plot rather than a natural consequence of the story. Whether this annoying drip, drip of info made me purposely look elsewhere for the killer, I don’t know, but I did work it out early on.

Even so, it’s a well-paced read that quickly becomes hard to put down.

A brilliant page-turner that kept me reading and guessing.

The 'lucky eight' are the survivors of a plane crash at Gatwick, five years earlier, but someone is killing them off. I had my suspicions and enjoyed following the twists and turns and trying to work it out, but there were a lot of red herrings and I was wrong - which I like! Lots of characters, but all fleshed out and 'real' and I particularly liked the detectives, Rachel and Ade. Maybe they should feature in another story 😊

The story is told according to two points of view: Rachel Lewis, the lead analyst on the now murder instance of the Lucky Eight, and Clodagh Kinsella, one of the Lucky Eight who made due on the stupendous plane accident five years earlier. The story is chiefly told from Clodagh’s point of view and it’s intriguing how she works a long time after the mishap where she has lost her sister. She’s a simple person to feel for. Scratch gets killed as it is the five-year gathering of people who endure the plane accident, every one of the casualties is presently suspected.

From the start, I was somewhat confounded concerning why they continued to attach the plane accident with Nick’s homicide even though everybody was there. All through the book, more subtleties are uncovered and I thought I knew what its identity was. I feel that this book is strong and engaging. The book is a page-turner and astonishing spine-chiller. What I delighted in the book was the author’s decision to make the examination genuine. There is a ton to like with regards to the design of this book. Clodagh, one of the survivors is a captivating person. The readers go directly into the whirlpool with her, and the outcome is that this book contains real secrets and a rush.

While this isn’t my top thrill ride, I was delighted to read this book. I suggest this book to crime thrillers.

The Lucky Eight

When a plane crashed at Gatwick 5 years ago, 160 people perished. Now someone is killing off the ‘lucky 8’ survivors.

This was a brilliant page turner and made for a great buddy read

We all had our suspicions as we tried to beat the police in working out the identity of the killer, although there weren’t any major gasp inducing twists, the author keeps you guessing right till the end with lots of red herrings

I've tried to start this book more than once and struggled to get into it. It could be timing or it could be that it's not the book for me. Either way, I'm going to give this book three stars so as not to penalize an author for a book I can't fully review.

This was such a perfect crime thriller. It's twisty, mysterious, unpredictable, and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! Would recommend.

This book made me feel like a detective, tracing all the twists back to people and working out what was going to happen next was a trip.

A really great and hugely engrossing book. I would love more books like this.

I enjoyed this book. It was twisty and turny, the writing was nice and not overly descriptive. It’s a quick and easy read but it did get a little muddled in the middle. Once the story lines started coming together it was perfection.

I kept changing my mind on who was the bad guy. All through the book. The nice part is that no one person is the bad guy. There isn’t really a single good character in this book. They all have their bad qualities and it’s done so well. Oh except for Ivan who was my favourite. Great book. I enjoyed myself. Would recommend.

Five years ago, 160 people died in a horrific plane crash, leaving only eight survivors - dubbed in the media as "The Lucky Eight," who try to get together each year to commemorate the anniversary of the crash. This year one of the survivor, Clodagh, whose sister Vivienne, died in the crash and is now in a relationship with her brother-in-law, Adam, discovers that another of the Lucky Eight has been murdered at the get together. And it soon becomes apparent that more of the Eight might be in trouble and it might all go back to what happened leading up to the accident.

The characters in this book were really well done - there was a broad cast, and the author managed to create a lot of depth with each. By the end of book I was really guessing to see who was going to end up being the "bad guy." There were plenty of twists and turns in there to keep me guessing. The ending was really good, and there were plenty of clues laid down there, so it was fun connecting them back once the truth was revealed!

I really didn't see it coming too!

I also wouldn't mind seeing Detectives Rachel and Ade again, either. They were a great pair and made for really great reading, and weren't dry, like some police pairs can be. I really liked them, they were sassy and smart.

This was an awesome thriller with plenty of suspense and surprises! I would absolutely read another from this author and would recommend this book to anyone looking for something exciting!

I absolutely loved this thriller telling the story of eight survivors of an aviation disaster that are being targeted one by one by an unknown assailant. The clandestine relationship of one of the victims with her late sister’s husband adds an additional layer of mystery to this story.

The Lucky Eight, by Sheila Bugler, is a thrilling, fast paced psychological thriller. Most of the main characters are quite likable. It was also pretty easy to dislike the bad guys. I'm looking forward to more books with Detective Rachel Lewis and her sidekick, Ade.
5 years ago, a horrible airplane crash was the biggest news all over the world. For the anniversary of the deadly accident, many of those who survived meet to recognize the tragedy. The next morning celebrity chef, Nick Gilbert, one of their own, is found murdered. While Detective Rachel Lewis is leading the investigation, another survivor is found stabbed to death. She's starting to wonder if the killer is going after "the lucky eight".
