this was such a fun little read! i liked to learn about these characters . and the town! omg. so cute! i'm super pumped to read more in the future for sure!!!!!

My second plane thriller in a month and it’s a good one. We have just enough info to keep us in the dark but suspecting one of eight passengers who meet each year after surviving a crash. Clever and subtle writing kept me hooked.

I ended up really liking this one, but I think the description is a little misleading.

Based on the description on NetGalley, it sounded like this book was about someone picking off crash survivors one at a time in a 'Final Destination' kind of way. I thought it was going to be extremely suspenseful. In reality, it's a pretty slow burn mystery. In the description, it sounds like two survivors die right off the bat, but you're actually almost half way through the book by the second time someone is targeted.

I still really liked it, and I would definitely read more from this author I just didn't expect it to be a slow burn.

This is a very unique and enthralling thriller.
I literally had no idea who the killer was and I could not put it down until I knew!

The writing is brilliant. .really clever with just enough detail to keep you on the edge of your seat. I will definitely be reading more by Sheila Bugler...I adored the tone and the pace and thought the author got those spot on.

The mystery itself was one of the best I've read...all suspects were plausible...all had very nuanced personalities and the police investigation was interesting without bombarding us with too much detail.

The only negative would be that I wanted to know the lucky eight a bit more...as a whole and individually...although we saw them all...actually knowing them would have been interesting and understanding their experiences would have been fascinating. However, it's definitely a positive that I am so interested in these fictional characters and I applaud the author for that.

Would definitely recommend this book!

I hope there will be other books with DI Rachel Lewis as a character.

The Lucky Eight is a fun read. A plane crashes, killing 160 people. However, there are 8 survivors who are nicknamed “The Lucky Eight”. As the only survivors, there is a bond of sorts that develops between them. Year after year, they gather together, but on the fifth-year anniversary, something out of the ordinary happens. One of the 8 is killed. Then another is missing. Did they survive the plane crash to be picked off and killed one by one? The characters are interesting, and it is fun to try to figure out who is the killer. All in all, this was a well written book that held my interest. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

This about the 7th plane crash / hostage takeover book I’ve read in 2021. Did all authors put there head together and see how Many could !?
The book was great. However I felt as if I’ve read it before.

I went into this book a little skeptical that I would be able to enjoy it as much as it deserves because I recently read and fell in love with another plane crash focused read-Dear Edward. I was delightfully surprised that Sheila Bugler’s The Lucky Eight drew me in from the first page. I could not put this one down!
8 survivors of a tragic plane crash are attempting to get on with life 5 years later when one of them is found brutally murdered at the hotel they had all gathered at for the crash anniversary. Now a group of 7, each survivor has their own secrets to hide. Deliciously twisty and unique, I highly recommend this book!

A plane crashes and five years later * survivors are together for their annual get together to commemorate the event. These survivors have become close friend over time and have helped each other navigate life after the tragedy.
The reunion goes well at first but by morning one of the eight is dead. Or rather has been killed. Now, this group of friends has to wonder, how well do they really know each other and was the initial plane wreck an "accident" or maybe something more.

I am a fan of the mysteries that start with a group and slowly the number of living members goes down. I liked the character and I liked the story line. For me, it kept moving and I wanted to finish it more than I wanted to set it down. Nice escape

I read this book very quickly, gulping it down as though I’d been deprived of good fiction for months (which isn’t true at all, I’ve read plenty of great books this year so far, but I have been starved of this level). Fantastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I felt as though I took absolutely ages to read this title. I wasn't a huge fan of some of the characters but I think that was intentional. The story reminded me of final destination and this summer there seems to be several books out there about plane crashes and the impact on people's lives following the tragedy.
i enjoyed the story enough to do in ish it and want to find what happened at the end, there was enough substance to the story but I did feel parts of it could have been cut down.

I kept hoping that I would get into this book, but I never did. The characters were not memorable and not all that likable.

I thought this was going to be a really good thriller. Someone killing off the survivors of an air crash, five years later. But, in reality, it just seemed to be a loosely woven police procedural. I found it pretty unrealistic that there would be two female detectives who answer to a female supervisor (and the person above her is also female, though only mentioned once). Not sure that's very likely. It's pretty clear the author is more comfortable writing female characters than men, as the male characters are a bit stereotypical and less developed. Also, it was really hard to like any of the characters, even the police detectives. The one exception was Ivan. That character was multi-faceted, with faults, but still likeable. Finally, I really didn't care for the outcome. Without revealing what happens, I'll just say that the crimes seemed a bit sloppy and really didn't add much to make the book interesting. Overall, I'd say this fits in the "average" category--nothing special, but perhaps worth reading.

The Lucky Eight by Sheila Bugler was a fun ride, unlike the one the characters in this book had. After a plane crashes, 160 people are killed. There are 8 survivors, dubbed “The Lucky Eight” and they now have to come to terms with all that they have lost. On the 5 year anniversary of the plane crash, they get together, only to have one of the 8 murdered. Then it’s revealed that another one is missing. Is someone after the 8? Will they have survived the crash only to die at the hands of a murderer?
I really enjoyed The Lucky Eight. It began to slow down in the middle but picked back up quickly. Clogdah, one of the perspectives that we are reading from is complex and a fun character to try to figure out. I was pretty sure that I knew who the killer was but I was wrong, which I love. A classic, enjoyable whodunnit.

I'm afraid I just couldn't get into this book and after a third of it read I had to concede defeat. I just couldn't get invested in the characters and felt it should have been a little more fast paced considering the premise.

This is my first book by Sheila Bugler and I really enjoyed this novel. I have never read a book like this storyline before so I was a bit dubious but I am glad I read this. I feel that this is a great summer read - especially now many of us are having staycations and going nowhere near a plane this year.

We follow a group of plane craft survivors - the lucky eight (yes as in the title) - they all survived but now after a few years there seems to be a murderous someone who is taking the lucky eight to their deaths. We follow Rachel the detective who is assigned to this very unusual case and also Clodagh who is one of the lucky eight.

Clodagh has, like many a character, some dark buried secrets and I was on tenterhooks to find out exactly what this secret was.

I enjoyed this novel once I got into it and if you are a reader who likes a fast paced, thrilling read then do not hesitate and get yourself a copy of this novel. The novel has many twists and turns and is riveting.

Being together as a group brings up a lot of mixed emotions, and some people have dealt with the tragedy better then others. An eventful evening leads to the discovery of the body of one of the survivors. Has the Lucky Eight run out of luck?

Detective Rachel Lewis leads the investigation into Nick’s death. Eager to please her boss, she wastes no time trying to get answers. Getting answers proves more difficult then she thought, as she tries to get the group’s stories straight. Not everyone is being honest with her, and some members have even disappeared. Then, another member of the group is killed. Detective Rachel Lewis realizes it is a race against time before the killer kills their next target. Will she solve the case or will it be too late?

If you enjoyed Final Destination, then this book is for you!!

I read relatively fast, but this book took me some time to get into. In the beginning, I was a little confused by all that was going on. Once I learned who was who, the story was easier to follow. All the characters, major and minor, are very different from one another. Each character was very relatable!

The story is told from Clodagh and Rachel’s point of view. I like reading a book that gives more then one character’s point of view. Clodagh is definitely an unreliable narrator, and it gives an edge to the story. You are not sure you can trust Clodagh and what she is saying due to the memory loss. I loved Detective Rachel Lewis and Detective Ade’s dynamic. I hope to see the pair together in a future novel. I thoroughly enjoy whodunits, and with this novel I had the killer figured out a quarter way in. With that being said, I enjoyed reading this novel!!
