I’m torn on rating this book. On the one hand, I didn’t enjoy any of the human characters (the dog was great!)… but, I thought the story was compelling, unnerving & exciting. If you don’t need to like the people involved, and just want something that will leave you feeling very stressed- this is a good choice!

I read this wanting a thriller and something different for this glorious Halloween month.

I haven’t read many stuck in the wild, all hope is lost books but I’m really glad I read this.

First off the characters. I ended up liking and caring about their own well-being. And even disliking some, but weirdly enough the one character you’re probably meant to not like too much, Britney, she ended up being my favourite of the lot. Her moments felt more real and exactly what you would expect someone like her to be like. But then we see more depth to her as a person, and to be honest we see this with everyone, they’re more than what meets the eyes and I love when books do that.

The tension in the car between the characters is great and how they try their best to normalize the situation and calm everyone by playing the odd game or even confessions really helped me feel more for each person. At some points I did wish Sam would stop thinking about the past and just stick to the situation that was happening but that was because I got too involved in wanting them all to be safe and found haha

It had suspense and even fun moments in it and all different kinds of characters that you can relate, agree, disagree, like, dislike along with it. I can also see this being adapted into a series or something as I think the dynamics of the characters and witnessing what they go through would make a real suspenseful show.

Ok, so this is going to sound a little bizarre. I really enjoyed this book, it had tension, is had survival, it had edge of your seat content. Here comes the but. That's my point. BUT. I really can't put my finger on it. If this was a movie I would sit back and enjoy it. Weird I know.

Anyway it's about a group of teens and a dog going on a ski trip. Firstly, why didn't they check the weather. They have a crash and ended up having to survive during a storm. They are literally stranded on the side of a mountain. But it seemed they didn't really like each other. Although I did like the dog.

It was kind of realistic and you could feel the tension. We don't have these storms in the UK so I think my survival skills will suffice. But it makes you think.

After reading some of the reviews for this one i was a little skeptical but i was nicely surprised, i really liked the book even though its geared to YA, you have the nice guy, the star athlete, the gorgeous snobby girl, the insanely smart girl, the sick one and the sister who is always taking care of her brother plus a dog. They get stranded on a mountain in multiple snowstorms when their vehicle slides off the road. bad things continue to happen, lots of secrets revealed and doing whatever is needed to survive. thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!!

Six teens struggle to survive when they get stuck in a snowstorm on the way to a ski weekend. Told from the pov of one teen, Sam, the characters, with the flaws and good points are filtered through her judgements. At first it seems that they will be stereotypical but as the book moves along they show hidden depths and Sam reevaluates her own judgements.

There are definitely thrills and suspenseful moments but there are times when things are predictable and a bit contrived. Teenagers will sit around and discuss religion and other big life things but it seemed a bit forced here.

I really appreciate that it does not end with everyone safe and back to their life like nothing happened. Rifts appears under stressful situations and sometimes you can never unsay or undo things and it will continue to influence the relationship.

This book is about a life-changing event. And things do change. People show good and bad sides that just wouldn’t come out in normal situations. There is plenty of drama in that, never mind the actual life-threatening ones.

If you like a struggle-for-survival story, pull up a chair.

Do you enjoy YA survival books? If so than you’ll definitely want to pick this one up! Although I’d recommend maybe not reading it while preparing for a ski weekend in the middle of a snow storm!

Six of the most unlikely of friends end up stranded on the side of a mountain during a snow storm while on their way to the senior ski trip. Sam didn’t even want to come on the trip but when her friend Lily convinces Sam’s younger brother Stuart to go on the trip with them Sam feels obligated to make sure to keep an eye on him. Little does she know she’ll soon be trapped in a car with the jock, prom queen wannabe, her best friend, and the boy who was supposed to be her friend but didn’t speak to her after moving away the year before.

As minutes turn to hours turn to days the more scared the group of teens get. Will they survive?

After reading this book I’ve decided I need to brush up on my survival skills and make sure that I always check the weather before I take a road trip anywhere, even if it’s somewhere close! I never thought I’d enjoy books about survival but over time I’ve come to really enjoy them and this is definitely one I would recommend. It’s fast-pace keeps you engaged and prepare yourself to sit on the edge of your seat throughout this high stakes story!

Ski Weekend is a book about 6 teenagers (and a dog) trying to survive after being stranded in a snow storm on their way to a weekend getaway.

It's been a while since I read a wilderness survival type story, but I still liked this! I also really enjoyed the Breakfast Club vibes with the cast of characters! Plus, once you get their names down, the characters are very distinct, so they don't blend together! The writing style was also great. I really liked it!

All in all, this was an enjoyable read, even though some parts of the novel nearly made me cry.

This was very different from my usual reads. I don’t hate it, and it’s not bad for a debut, but is probably more of a book for people who like thriller/survival stories than people like me who are more fantasy/historical/romcom kind of people. I don’t regret taking the time to read it, but I’m not likely to reread. 🤷🏼‍♀️

“Six teens, one dog, a ski trip gone wrong . . .” with a tagline like that I expected a lot from this story. While this book didn’t exactly let me down it didn’t get me excited either. Honestly, I just felt nothing. The overall plot was a good idea but I never felt like any of the characters were in any real danger. I kept being told they were in danger but I never felt it. I missed that edge of my seat feeling when reading a good thriller story. I liked the idea behind the characters being inspired from The Breakfast Club but I don’t think it was executed well. None of the characters were likable which is totally fine but I would have liked to connect with at least one of them. Even the main character was a bit annoying at times and highly hypocritical. Some decisions she made didn’t seem to fit her overall character. A couple of the characters felt a little stereotypical and if I wasn’t given certain details about them then I would have never known who/what they were because their voice didn’t come off the same way. Also, some of the conversations the characters had together didn’t seem to fit into the story as a whole. It made me just question why that was added in. Overall, I really enjoyed the writing style. It was an easy book to read and the author did a great job with the flow of the story. Even though this book didn’t do it for me, I can see how others might enjoy this one. I read a lot of great reviews so I might have an unpopular opinion!

In the author's notes, Rektok Ross wrote that she set out to capture the feel of "The Breakfast Club" in a lief or death scenario. A group of high school seniors, accompanied by the lead character's sophomore set out on a ski trip, get stranded and have to deal with it, and with each other. Unfortunately, I found very little to like about this book. Some tropes that she set out to avoid found their way back in and too many situations defied all inevitability. I finished the book, but it was a struggle, and ultimately unrewarding.

This was quite the thriller! You’ll be on the edge of your seats the whole time you are reading it. I thought I had it all figured out but I was so wrong! This was so good!

Sam and her five friends (and don't forget the dog!) are on their way to a ski weekend. There's an unfortunate accident that leaves them stranded in the middle of a storm. They have limited food and someone is hurt.

This was a good survivor story, but I had to remind myself it was a YA novel. There's definitely some high school feelings that I'm too old for. All in all, it was a good book and obviously the best character was the dog.

Reading the blurb I was excited to dive into this but unfortunately it didn't work for me. The cast was unique and diverse but were too childish at times, being more middle grade rather than YA. Sam is too judgemental and I didn't like her.

Being stuck in woods with a snowstorm coming, instead of finding ways to survive they talked about things which were irrelevant. Though the author brought important topics in such discussion but given this being survival thriller they didn't make sense. Some humor was good.

The writing was easy flowing and you would want to know what is to happen next. It was good read but just not for me.

I was very excited to read this book, both because the premise sounded exciting and because I've been following the author on Instagram for a while now. After reading it, I wasn't disappointed. The story is about a group of teenagers (and one dog) stranded in the woods in a snowstorm and trying to survive. It was very readable and held my interest the entire time, even though for a good portion of the book, there wasn't actually too much action. The more each character was developed, the more I felt invested in them and wanted them to survive. There was one character who felt a little bit like a villain, which isn't necessarily a problem. It is believable that not everyone would react to a survival situation nobly and putting other people above themselves, and I kind of liked that at least someone was being selfish. But the character's actions just felt a bit forced for the sake of conflict.

My only real criticism of the book, though, is that the main character Sam was the least interesting character. She felt a little flat, while the other characters had good development. But I suppose that could be a result of the reader learning more and more about the other characters as Sam herself does. It's hard for us to see a new side of Sam when the story is from her perspective, and since the plot is so tightly confined to this specific setting and scenario, we don't get to see who she is as a person outside of this. But I have to admit that what we did get from her, personality-wise, I didn't love. It felt like the majority of her attitude and actions throughout the book annoyed me. She was the over-bearing, over-protective big sister, and everything she said and everything she did was solely driven by her desire to save her brother. While this bothered me and I just wanted to grab her and shake her at times, I guess I can't fault the book for this. I can't even begin to imagine how I would react if I was caught in a life-or-death situation with someone I loved.

Even though I found Sam annoying, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and the one thing I was afraid would happen didn't happen, so yay!

When I first read the synopsis of this book I was really excited as I am definitely in the mood for survival/spooky/thriller books. At first I had a hard time connecting with some of the characters and felt that they were a little too cliche in some ways, but once I got a bit into the book they developed more and gained more depth which made them more relatable. None of them were perfect and there were certain thoughts and actions that had me rolling my eyes a bit, but I feel that was intended in some cases. I did really enjoy how much we really get to know the characters in this extreme situation which was a nice facet of the story.

Since I live in an area where there are isolated places/roads where people have gotten stuck and lost before, the setting and scope of this story was very realistic to me. The suspense was well written and kept the tension high as the story went on, which made it hard to put it down because I had to know what was going to happen to the characters. If you're looking for a fast, suspense filled survival story, this would fit the bill.

Six teens (and a dog!) are on their way to a ski lodge for a senior trip. The six, Sam, Stuart, Gavin, Hunter, Britney, and Lily, are an unlikely group. Sam and Stuart are siblings - with Sam being the overprotective big sister. Gavin is Stuart's best friend, that moved across the country, as well as Sam's crush. Hunter is the popular jock that gets along with everyone. Lily is Stuart's girlfriend and a SERIOUS nerd. Then there's Britney. Britney is the popular cheerleader that tends to be mean (or at least on the surface). Everyone's excited to get to the ski lodge, except for Sam. Sam doesn't care about going to the ski lodge. She's only there for her brother to keep an eye on him.

As they embark on the trip, a snowstorm starts to come down. While they continue on their journey, roads are being closed down due to the amount of snow. No one wanted to skip going to the lodge. Hunter comes up with a shortcut to get to the lodge without having to turn around. Everyone wants to go on the shortcut, except for Sam. Sam is cautious, but ends up getting convinced. The storm gets worse. They lose control of the car and land in a snowbank. The car is stuck in the middle of nowhere. With Hunter having been an Eagle Scout and his Grandfather teaching him survival skills, they're able to survive...for as long as they can. With hints of a romance boiling, you follow their story as they try to survive.

I enjoyed this novel. The survival plot was interesting! Some of the things that were used, were ways I never thought of doing. It made me think about what I would do if I was in that situation. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending and thought it had come upon very fast. The changes in the characters during this end-of-life situation were interesting to see. I liked that the author had some of the characters experience that as well as seeing the shock of the others. I would definitely recommend reading this.

I went into this book thinking it was a whodunit, so I’m at least half to blame for why I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I hoped. It’s a book about 6 teens and a dog trying to survive after crashing in a snowstorm.

First of all, I didn’t like our main character, Sam. She was boring, condescending, and plain. There wasn’t a lot to her, and I mostly remember her at all because of the way she treated her brother and thought about the other people in the car.

Secondly, I think, there were a lot of things that didn’t fit the overall concept, with the tone of the story leading the way. The group was trapped in a snowstorm and barely surviving, but then they sat around talking about movies, boys, and religion. Don’t you have better things to discuss? Obviously not.

The writing style was good, though and I didn’t struggle my way through the pages. It was an enjoyable read, just not for me.

3 for neutral, unfortunately, I do not think this book was for me. I also am not sure it’s even marked in the right genre. Will update if able to finish at a later date.

I decided to read this as a distraction from a family emergency and my resulting anxiety. Needless to say, I definitely should have picked something else as this did not help with those real-life issues AT ALL (ha ha). But, that is not the book's fault. It's definitely mine.

Putting those feelings aside this book was really well done. What starts as a fun ski weekend with friends turns dangerous very quickly. I've never been in this situation myself (and I hope I never do), but it seemed very realistic. I will warn you that there is very little light at the end of this tunnel so if you are not ready for a darker, realistic read...maybe hold off till you're ready. Overall, I think the character development was well done, I really like the story and writing style, and I would pick up another book by this author.
