An old lady dreams that her ancestors tell her to make a gingerbread man, to bring her happiness, so she does just that. The gingerbread man runs away after he has baked, and soon he has everyone chasing him around. Lots of animals want to eat him, as he smells so good, and the old lady and her husband want to catch him and bring him back home. Will they be able to catch him?

My daughter and I thought this book was so funny, and the graphics were hilarious. We had a good laugh, and we enjoyed the cute ending too.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a lovely book. A classic tale of The Gingerbread Man. We loved this story and the colourful pictures, I love the twist at the end too. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A perfect early chapter read for developing readers. This is a twist on the classic tale of the gingerbread man. It's lovely to see a story with characters of colour, without the book being about race, The bright, vivid images give you subtle clues about where the story might be set. There's a word in the book for a tool that makes you certain that the book is set in a specific place, it's where author Kandace Chimbiri grew up and lived until the age of 28 - Barbados. A delightful opportunity to be able to explore another country a little more once you've read the book. The vocabulary has been carefully chosen to support and develop early independent reading. My four year old loved to join in with the repeated refrains and the images have been carefully drawn to aid with sequence and comprehension of the story. I do maybe wish there had been another way to solve the monkey problem - although I appreciate traditional tales can be a little 'edgy' - just look at how some of The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood stories end!

A great book that tells the story of a classic story that I remember from my childhood, although this one had a few twists.
Great for younger children - I remember singing the song when I was a child, and my daughter did exactly the same.
Colourful and eye-catching illustrations too.

If you have a young child this book will be great for them , classic retelling of the childhood story we all know and love. This book is easy to read , had absolutely beautiful illustrations that will make your child smile as the gingerbread man escapes . I would recommend this to anyone with young readers , it would also be great for schools and libraries, short fun read .

A strong re-telling of the story we all know and love (allegedly), with a change to the animal personnel, and a happy twist to the ending. This, then, is perfectly suited for anyone young enough not to be put off by the questionable stamina of the elderly couple that plagues every standard version.
