Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

As someone who feeds garden birds, I know very little.
What fantastic creatures they are! This book has excellent images which will benefit from being seen in a large hardback book!
I found some of the information mind blowing.

I have new found respect for these animals.

The introductory pages at the front of this little book contain some really interesting facts about the evolution of birds, nesting, breeding strategies and more. Unfortunately when it gets to the list of birds, I felt the descriptions were lacking. They contain one or two snippets of usually interesting information about the bird, a map of approximately where they are found and one illustration, I was expecting more. The introduction says the birds are grouped but they read like a long list of seemingly unrelated birds.

A great little book all about our feathery friends! Very accessible and very easy to read, with a fab layout and some great information included. Whether you’re a bird enthusiast and all round bird lover, or just want to know more, this book is great.

The book opens with a chapter on all things bird; their background, evolution, breeding behaviours and nesting. It was a great introduction before it lead on to the main section, with a page dedicated to each bird.

Filled with some lovely illustrations, each page describes the bird, sums up its behaviours and breeding as well as where they can be found and in what habitats. It makes a great reference book or a book to read through to learn more about birds you may encounter. There did seem to be a bit of a random hodge podge of bird selection though but it was great to read nonetheless.

I hadn’t heard of a fair few of the birds included here so it was great to read. I loved the layout and how the information was laid out on the page, it made for effortless reading!

A definite recommend for all the bird lovers out there or anyone who wants to know more our avian neighbors.

Hmmm... I found this neither one thing nor the other. It's not a spotter's guide, as it packs everything in from a flamingo to a king penguin. Neither is it really a basic showcase for some superlative birds, for it covers things that I couldn't really think of as remarkable in any way. It does what it wants with good old-fashioned qualities – data, Latin names, breeding plumage notes and descriptions all in clear, standardised form on the page – so it does make for an attractive flick-through. Its use after that stumps me somewhat, though.
