Melody Carlson’s A Christmas in the Alps is a perfect, cozy read for the festive season. Ms. Carlson takes you on a picturesque trip to the French Alps as the main character, Simone, is on a quest to find her great-grandmother’s family treasure. Simone, who takes the trip begrudgingly and at a friend’s urging, meets Kyle on the plane. Throughout the trip, Kyle and Simone’s paths keep crossing and in the process Kyle assists Simone in her quest to find her great-grandmother’s family treasure.

I am not a newcomer to Ms. Carlson’s books-especially her Christmas stories-and when I heard about A Christmas in the Alps I knew I had to read it. Ms. Carlson’s eloquent writing makes you feel as though you are in the French Alps yourself, walking along it’s streets and through the places with Simone and the people she meets. While the plot is somewhat predictable in some parts, it still leaves the reader engaged. A Christmas in the Alps is a sweet and pleasant read for the festive season. If you are looking for a good read to help you escape the hustle and bustle (if only for a little bit) then A Christmas in the Alps would be an excellent read and you won’t be disappointed! I highly recommend it! (I also think it would be a AWESOME holiday movie!)

I would like to thank NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. (My review is also on Goodreads & Leslie's Library Escape)

“A French Christmas! Isn’t that tempting? Christmas in the French Alps? And after you find your treasure, you can come home a rich woman.”

“I’ll tell you what helps me most when I’m anxious or afraid…It’s prayer. I find that when I hand these troubles over to God, I start to relax. I trust him for the outcome, and I’ve never been let down.”

“My treasure is your treasure.”

Melody Carlson has a way of making you feel like you know the characters from the very beginning. And I enjoyed the journey of the characters from beginning to end. While the story relies on some coincidences and a little sappy at times, it was interesting and well written. Definitely not my favorite Melody Carlson Christmas book. I enjoyed some of the descriptions of France but honestly wish there was more of that since it is such a great setting. And the story does get bogged down in some of the French translation for characters.

All in all, this was decent. If you read every new Melody Carlson Christmas book each year, then definitely read it. If not, then I would skip it.

Wonderful little story mostly set in France as the backdrop for family forgiveness, budding romance, and a treasure hunt like no other. Super predictable, teensy bit superficial on the character development front, but touched lightly on problems that most people can relate to. Closed the last chapter with a couple of happily ever afters - Perfect!

Melody Carlson is my go to holiday author. All of her stories are heart felt, involve love and family and usually end happy…all things I look for in holiday reads. In Christmas in the Alps a woman looking for family ties finds herself in France after a letter she found while cleaning out grandmama’s things. While in the Alps she finds family and so much more. She overcomes her fear of flying and faces the past that was much messier than was lead to believe. Highly recommend.

Have you ever spent Christmas in another state or country without family?

When Simone Winthrop’s grandmother dies she discovers an unopened letter from her French great grandmother, who Simone is named after. The letter says that she is heir to a family treasure in their homeland town in France.

After some encouragement by Simone’s best friend, and the fact that Simone might as well spend Christmas in the beautiful French Alps since her last relative has just passed, Simone finds herself on a plane heading toward France.

This is a feel-good novella celebrating the beauty of God’s creation, friendship, and love. I would suggest you leave your critical thinking behind as you open this book that whisks you to a beautiful winter wonderland.

My Concerns
While I suggest you leave your critical thinking behind, I found it hard to in several instances.

-When Simone discovers the letter that instructs her to look for a treasure in her great grandmother’s hometown in France. Simone’s friend jumps right on monetary riches and pushes Simone to travel to France.
-Who travels to a town in France and starts looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack? She has no earthly idea what treasure she is looking for.
-Coincidences are in abundance

Final Thoughts
Regardless of the concerns I’ve shared, if you’re looking for a relaxing, enjoyable Christmas novella with a good message, reach for this enjoyable book.

My thanks to NetGalley and TLCBookTours for an ebook and the ability to freely post my opinion.

A charming Christmas tale. The scene is set in the wintery French Alps. Simone sets out on a quest to locate a hidden treasure her great grandmother has hidden. While cleaning out a guest room an unopened letter is found and the quest to find answers and locate the treasure. Absolutely the perfect setting to be read during the holidays. Family relationships, love and a little light mystery are perfect in the telling of this book. Grab a cup of your favorite drink , relax while the lights are twinkling on your tree and immerse yourself in Melody’s latest holiday story. wishes. Simone needs to travel to the Alps in France to find a treasure. Afraid to fly, she has a helpful seatmate, Kyle, who is also travelling to France. He is in want of a clockmaker apprenticeship.
The inn where Simone finds herself, in her grandmother's long-ago, small town, has staff who can help connect Simone to her never-before-met relatives. A little further into the story and lo and behold, Kyle has a side trip to the same small town..

A solid one! There's more than romance in this story. It was mainly Simone trying to figure out the story of her great-grandma's mysterious life and treasure.
I liked that there was French included especially since it was set in a smaller French town.
I'd recommend it!

This was a fun, quick Christmas read! I enjoyed the setting in the Alps, and I was really interested in the search for this "treasure"! I was pretty sure I knew where that storyline would go, and it was fun to see it play out!

This is light-hearted and lovely for the holidays! I would recommend this for readers that enjoy a sweet romance with a bit of mystery!

“I’ve always wanted to go to France. And the French Alps at Christmas? How can you possibly say no?””

This is a story that speaks to my teenage girl’s heart. I mean who hasn’t dreamed of finding family in another country, especially France. Simone is feeling alone after her grandmother‘s death and decides to embark on a journey to find a family treasure and overcome her fear of flying, too. The whole journey I could feel what she is experiencing in this sweet novella.

“My treasure is hidden in Avre. I know it must still be there. You must go and get it, ma chérie. It is meant for you.”

This story is filled with so many magical moments with it’s beautiful scenery. The journey through Paris and into the village of Avre, sparked my dreams of traveling to this area of Europe. The tradition of clockmaking really comes to life with it’s imagery. The characters are engaging and inviting. The romance is sweet, but it would have been nice for it to play out a bit more as I really love Simone and Kyle’s relationship. However, the real focus is on family and forgiveness. It is also about stepping out of your comfort zone to follow a dream. I really love the feel of “Christmas in the Alps.” It makes me want to spend Christmas there with the hopes of finding long lost family ties like Simone in France.

“she no longer felt like such an outsider. In fact, it was almost as if the town was welcoming her . . . as if it was inviting her to make herself at home.”

If you love uplifting Christmas stories, I think this might just provide a bit of joy for your holidays.

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and are given honestly.

4.5 stars

All the warm fuzzies for this Christmas novella that reads just like a Hallmark movie. I’m not sure how I’ve never read a book by Melody Carlson before after finding out she’s such a prolific writer. But I will be seeking out more of her books in the future.

Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

Reminiscent of The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany, this was a charming holiday novella taking place in the French Alps. Simone and Kyle are clearly perfect for each other, and I loved Simone’s journey reconnecting with her family and her great grandmamma’s spirit. The search for missing treasure was a fun air of mystery amongst the family drama and romance storylines. The small-town setting with the clock factory and Christmastime snow was enchanting. This is a really cute Christmas read!

Thanks to Revell Books and TLC Book Tours for the copy of this story!

I have read several books by Melody Carlson and I've come to look forward to her Christmas novels. Yes, I said Christmas. I know it's only September, but what other way to end summer and go into the fall season than with a holiday book. The nights have even been a bit chilly here this week which make it perfect for a cup of coffee a blanket and a book.

I always consider this Author's books what I like to call "easy reads". They are usually kind of light hearted and just enjoyable. This one continued in that category for me.

Simone has had a rough year (relatable right). After a time of heartache and loss she discovers a letter from her French grandmother who has now passed away. The letter informs Simone of a treasure that she is heir to and how she needs to travel to Paris in order to retrieve it. Simone thinks that her grandmother must have not been in her right mind when she wrote the letter and doesn't want to go. Her fear of flying doesn't help, but with the persuasion of a friend she heads to the French Alps.

During her flight she meets the charming Kyle Larsson and one of my favorite parts is when he helps her through a panic attack on the flight. When they land they part ways, but soon find themselves reunited. As she is trying to uncover the treasure that her grandmother spoke of is it possible she may uncover a romance between her and Kyle?

There were a few slow moments to the book, but overall an enjoyable read. Thanks to Revell for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review

I read this while sick and it worked for me at that time. It's written very simply and at just 176 pages, it was a sweet story that moved quickly that didn’t demand a lot from me mentally. I wished there were more detailed descriptions of the setting, especially because that is what drew me to the book but there were enough mentions of snow to make me feel cozy. I’m not sure I would have liked this book if I hadn’t been sick due to how simply it was written, especially because the dialogue was felt somewhat stiff, but if you’re looking for a quick, Christmasy read with the theme of found-family, this may be one you'd like to try.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for the gifted ecopy. All thoughts are my own.

Melody Carlson's A Christmas in the Alps is a wonderful novella that tells the romantic story of Simone and Kyle. It is one of those stories that will warm your heart because, after all, with their chance meeting on a flight that Simone dreaded, everything was destined to fall in place for their happy ever after. However, that was not how it played out. Learning about her great grandmother's amazing past was well worth the trip out of her comfort zone. Finding a new path for her own life was priceless.

I enjoyed this story for the rich color within the fabric of these characters lives. Simone's family, like so many who lived through the rigors of World War II are inspiring. Had Simone stayed behind and bathed in her practical comfort zone she would have missed out on all of the rewards life had to offer her.

Every year I wait to read Melody Carlson's latest Christmas story. A Christmas in the Alps is just one of those stories that make you glad you picked up a book and skipped a cookie cutter Christmas movie. Novellas may be short but this one is long on heart!
