This is the second book in this series so I went back and read the first one before I tackled this one. I was glad I did because they are somewhat connected-the characters are sisters. This book revolves around Police Detective Cate Reilly. When a young lady turns up missing at a girl's school, Cate goes undercover to figure out what happened to her. To her surprise, Zeke Sloan (a past lover) is also working undercover posing as a teacher This is the story of how they work together to figure out what is going on at the school and what happened to the missing student. This story is very well written and I really enjoyed it. I recommend it to all mystery lovers!.

Labyrinth of Lies is as wonderful as the first book in Irene Hannon's Triple Threat series, and I am already anxiously awaiting the third. In this story St. Louis County detective Cate Reilly reconnects with her former boyfriend when their undercover assignments collide. Cate is working undercover as a student at an exclusive girls' boarding school investigating the disappearance of a student while DEA Agent Zeke Sloan is working undercover as a substitute Spanish teacher while investigating the school's connection to a large drug ring. Hannon has cooked up an intriguing tale of suspense and danger seasoned with just a bit of romance, and the result is delectable. Writing like this is why Hannon is one of my top five suspense authors.

I got strong Gallagher Girls vibes right away, but that's probably because the book is set in an all-girls private school. Hannon did a great job keeping me guessing and I didn't suspect the perp until just before they were revealed!!!! There was a lot of subterfuge and things not being as they seemed, from the bad guys and the good guys. Labyrinth of Lies is the perfect title.


I really liked Cate's sisters. Their relationship is fun and sweet. I wish they could have been around more, but that wouldn't work for obvious reasons. I also really like Kayla. It's a relatively minor subplot, but I just liked how everything went with her. How Cate connected to her and was able to form a relationship.

The case took a larger role than personal character growth, which is new. Our MCs did have things to work through, but there wasn't as clear of a message or theme that they were learning. Not bad, just different.

My one drawback was how big of a role the romance held in the story. Usually, it's in the background or a minor part of the plot because catching bad guys is more important! I just didn't like how it was done in this one.

Labyrinth of Lies once again proves why Irene Hannon is my favorite romantic suspense author!

This second book in the A Triple Threat series was fantastic! Cate Reilly and Zeke Sloan's story has everything I look for in a great suspense. It has likeable characters with interesting careers, a plot full of intrigue with twists and turns and a simmering second chance romance with a satisfying conclusion. Hannon came through on all counts. I have loved Eve and Cate Reilly's stories and can't wait to see what's in store for sister Meg.

I like how both of them had a lot of background information on all the people in the academy. I also like how the story was told from multiple of points of view. It also illustrated how some people get accidentally get caught up in the drug trade. Although I found Zeke a little too pushy at times, the second chance romance adds to the story. Their investigation leads to many suspenseful moments. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Award winning author Irene Hannon has pulled out her best writing skills for her latest release, Labyrinth of Lies, and it is Spectacular! It is book 2 in the exciting Triple Threat series and I highly encourage you to read this entire series for context.

Hannon has come through with another intricate plot set mainly on the grounds of the elite Ivy Hill Academy. Police Detective Cate Reilly is tasked to go undercover as a student. She was worried her biggest struggle would be her Math classes! Unfortunately, another agency has also embedded an agent at the Academy, Zeke Sloan. Funny thing, Zeke is the only man that Cate has ever loved but that relationship ended badly. They realize they must come to a working arrangement to accomplish the goal of taking down the criminal or criminals behind the elaborate scheme they discover. This plot is filled with all things you come to expect from Hannon — intricate plot, great character development, elaborate scheme, not likely able to solve whodunit until the end and she adds in an element of romance to her suspense that always makes things so much more intense and interesting.

This second book in the “Triple Threat” series definitely deserves kudos for being captivating, intriguing and intense. Irene Hannon has written a brilliant and insightful page-turner that was as fast-moving as it was complex. This book has a tightly written plot with plenty of suspense. There are numerous characters, all of whom are remarkably realistic. The theme of drugs is definitely relevant and the fact that the author uses code names for the perpetrators up until the climax added to the edginess of the story. I enjoyed the simmering romance between Cate Reilly and her former love interest, Zeke Sloan, and rooted for her to forgive him his past transgressions so that they could move on together. This is an addictive and satisfying addition to the genre of romantic suspense, with the author’s unique style showing in every chapter. Written with clever twists and enticing dialogue, this is one not to miss and can be read as a standalone. My favorite character was Cate’s roommate at the posh Ivy Hill School, a young girl named Kayla who lacked self-confidence but who changed as the book progressed, maturing as her character should have. The book was a fascinating character study of why people choose to do evil and was thought-provoking at times. I highly recommend it for those who enjoy a fast-paced and well-crafted mystery, with more than a hint of romance.

Cate Reilly, a detective for the St. Louis MO Police Department, and Zeke Sloan, an agent assigned to the DEA, have both gone undercover at the Ivy Hill Academy, an elite girls’ private high school. Two problems immediately present themselves. First, the two cases appear to be interconnected. Second, Cate and Zeke have a years-old relationship that went bonkers eight years ago - a breakup that left both very disturbed. Working at a girls’ high school would seem like a cushy assignment except both Cate and Zeke will find their lives in danger. The story is well-written, though at times gaps appear in the story. For example, at one point Cate is out, lost, on a snowy road. The next time we see her, she is on the phone conversing with her handler. No explanation, no hint from where her help came.

The faith-based story held this reader’s interest and might easily appeal to anyone interested in suspense or romantic-suspense literature. I give the book 4-½ stars.

I love Irene Hannon’s books and Labyrinth of Lies is another of hers that you can’t put down. I was hooked from the beginning. I loved the characters and storyline. Both Zeke and Cate are undercover through their separate jobs at a private school. Cate is looking for a missing student and Zeke is after a drug ring. And to complicate things, they have a history of romance between them that didn’t end well and their feelings for each other are starting to surface again.

The story is packed with suspense, romance and action and I highly recommend it.

This is the story of Cate, the oldest of the Reilly sisters, second in the Triple Threat series. Cate really was over working undercover for the St. Louis Police. She would rather work her normal detective job but when a girl disappears from an exclusive girls' school, she is the only one on the team who can pass for a teenager. What Cate was not expecting was to run into her old flame Zeke Sloan from eight years ago when they worked together. Now Zeke is DEA, also working undercover to investigate a drug ring at the school, posing as the Spanish teacher at the school. They had a close relationship that ended badly with Cate getting hurt and she really doesn't want to rekindle things but they do have to work together. The story has lots of suspense and action with some tense and dangerous moments. The top bad guys use code names so we aren't given an idea of who they are until late in the story. Great characters, suspenseful mystery to solve, faith, romance and second chances make this another awesome Irene Hannon book.

Irene Hannon does it again. An amazing story filled with love and suspense. It was so interesting I read the book in two days. It had me guessing right up until the end.

Hannon is one of my favorite suspense authors. I liked that in this case, two former sweethearts, unbeknownst to them, both went undercover in the same school, Was it coincidence? Or was it "a small miracle in which God chooses to remain anonymous" (location 1370)? In either case, Zeke is smart enough to realize it's a chance to make things right and maybe get a second chance, if only Cate will cooperate.

This book has a lot of good action. It gives insight into how an investigation like this is run. It's fascinating. There were twists and surprises. I had a hard time putting it down. It was a great read. I'd highly recommend it.

Hannon does an incredible job of weaving together a plot that leaves the guessing as to who is involved in the nefarious drug ring and how it connects to the missing girl, as well as developing great characters that have very real issues and flaws.

Besides being a heart-thumping thriller, “Labyrinth of Lies” also includes several great themes, like there is goodness in the world if you look for it; overcoming bitterness; finding forgiveness; allowing for the flaws of others as well as one’s self; and there is always hope.

Fans of Lynette Eason, Kelly Irvin, Terri Blackstock and Colleen Coble will love this novel.

This one is better than the first in this series. I forgot how bad that one was before I read this one. I will not read any more from this series nor from this author.

Labyrinth of Lies, the second book in Irene Hannon’s Triple Threat series, is filled with fascinating plot twists and well-written characters that readers can easily relate to. The novel focuses on police detective Cate Reilly and DEA agent Zeke Sloan, who have a previous history together, so the romantic aspect of the storyline is very believable and develops at a reasonable pace. Their story takes an interesting turn as their paths intersect while working two separate undercover cases at the same girls’ boarding school. The series features a trio of strong, confident sisters who are highly supportive of each other, but this novel can easily be read as a standalone.

Ever since I discovered her books, Irene Hannon quickly became one of my very favorite romantic suspense authors. Labyrinth of Lies captured my attention and kept me riveted to the characters and the storyline for the entire novel. Even though I enjoyed Point of Danger, book one of the series, Labyrinth of Lies is my favorite of the series so far. You definitely won’t want to miss this book!

Labyrinth of Lies is highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense, and especially readers who enjoy books by authors such as Dani Pettrey, Lynn H. Blackburn, Rachel Dylan, and Lynette Eason.

Labyrinth perfectly describes this latest tale of intrigue from Irene Hannon. As always, her expertise in suspense and intricacies of the human condition and complexities drive the narrative. The strong yet vulnerable characters of Cate Reilly and Zeke Sloan are relatable and well-rounded. Both have past wounds and carefully guarded secrets, but the deceit lies externally and shrouded in double lives and motives. Since there's quite a history between the two, working as a team requires reluctant cooperation and constant awareness.

This would be an excellent contemporary movie. Although part of the Triple Threat series, Labyrinth works well as a stand-alone read and a great introduction to the trilogy for me.

Overall a good suspenseful read, but in the end it get's - as our heroine Cate would say - a little "mush". It was clear from the beginning that the two undercover agents would come together again, but it wasn't necessary to make it that kitschy.
Another problem I had were the abrupt changes of scene/character. I always needed 2-3 sentences to orientate.
This novel can easily be read as a stand-alone.

A solid installment in Hannon's newest series. I couldn't put it down!
