So, this book was okay. There isn’t really much to say about it other than it was simple. From the writing to the characters and even the plot, everything felt easy and I felt like I was reading a short book from someone’s book project at school.

Without sounding harsh, nothing really stood out in this book. The characters were unmemorable, the plot was recycled and I felt like the ending could have been stronger. I also found their was little to no character development and there were some scenes I eye rolled with the cringe from it all.

This is your generic retelling with a poor to average execution and I found myself mostly bored reading this. The writing was nothing special and I didn’t care for the characters as much as I assumed I would.

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say I was absolutely smitten with this one.

I love a good twisted fairytale, and Katherine Buel delivered on this cleverly written one about Snow White. It had it all, the dwarves, the mirror, the huntsman and more but with the added element of the Fairie world as well and none of them played themselves in the traditional sense of the story.

While it’s premise is a clever take on Snow White, you can’t help but see all the Easter eggs of other fairytales in the story. It had me questioning “Am I reading The Snow Queen, Red Ridinghood, Cinderella?”

I just loved it. I devoured it in one sitting and couldn’t help smiling as I read the story. Without giving the ending away, I will say I appreciated the struggle to fight for love, over justice. And how to allow grief and suffering to be apart of you. For it is our pain that makes us, it does not change as it re-shapes us.

For fans of Julia Kagawa, Melissa Marr and Sarah J Mass, This is a fantastic addition to everyone's TBR summer list.

To be honest, I was expecting to be disappointed by this book but I LOVED it. It was so sweet and heart-warming set in a beautiful fairytale environment. It’s a Snow White retelling but it’s so different from the actual story that I kept reading to see what would happen in the end. I can’t talk much about the plot because everyone is already familiar with Snow White and If I give away the changes that are made in this story then it wouldn’t be an enjoyable read for you. To Summarize, It has fairies, demons, dwarves, witches, and the Hunter but none of them have the same purpose that they did in the original story. If you love fairy tales then give this one a try but keep in mind that this is a fairytale and concepts such as “love” and “Justice” are going to play important roles in the plot. If that’s something that you don’t like to see in a story then maybe this isn’t the book for you.

I enjoyed it pretty good. Not a huuuuuge fan of the cover art though. (While you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, sadly some people won't give it a second glance if it doesn't stand out) Author did a good job at getting you hooked.

Great and strong heroine but she isn't alone , there are strong female characters. Each of them unique in her own way even the evil queen. If you are looking for the Disney, you will be disappointed. I love how the author paint the atmosphere sometimes for emphasis and sometimes to contradict. I also loved the way she inserted the dwarves into the plot.
Overall I recommend the book and belive that I am not the only one to enjoy it.
