Matilda Ashby never expected supernatural hitmen to come after her, nor did she expect the scruffy guy behind her in line at the coffee shop to be a telepathic hitman trying to make amends. Samson will keep her safe while they try to find out who is paying for the hit. Now all Matilda will need to worry about is navigating an unwanted marriage proposal and a company merger that is setting family members against one another.

This was a refreshing change from other novels in this genre. Matilda is a very self-aware heroine - understands her own strengths and weaknesses and doesn't fight with Samson about her safety. Samson is broken by the circumstances of his upbringing, so the slowly building friendship between the leads was great to watch. My only point of confusion was the title of the book - it didn't really tie into the story at all. I look forward to the next book in this series.

The Family Cross is first book in new urban fantasy series Circle Seven. Story follows Matilda Ashby, daughter of billionaire, who found herself with a price on her head.
I wasn't sure what to expect so I was little afraid. But it was unnecessary. Yes, the start was little slower than I am used to but I understand why. And when we get through the beggining, it really was ride. Tilly and her bodyguard Samson are great characters and I enjoyed their grow up.
So if you like supernatural creatures, badass assassins and some romance, this is your book. And honesty? I'm really curious where this story will go.

This book is a supernatural mystery that keeps you on your toes with it's twists and turns. Matilda is an heiress with no backbone who finds out in the most horrible way that there is a hit out on her. Even worse, it's not just any hit but one made to be fulfilled by supernatural killers! (Dramatic gasp)!! BUT, her savior is the very unlikely Samson, who is a former mercenary with telepathy. Samson keeps her alive for the same amount of money the hit on Matilda's head is for, which, I think it's an interesting concept. I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next in the series.

Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The family cross by Gabrielle Ash.
A good read with good characters. Little slow in places. But I read it. Different. 4*.

A totally new story with a lot of new elements. It was slow burn and good to read how Sam and Tilly's relationship developed over time. The suspense was nerve wrecking and so thrilling that it keeps you hooked to the book. A little more focus on the supernatural beings would make the book even more interesting , but on the whole it's worth it .Can't wait for the next book !

I was excited to get a copy of The Family Cross by Gabrielle Ash from Netgallery. It didn't disappoint.
There was something lovable about Matilda and Samson. They were complex and unpredictable. I loved reading their journey and near the end I couldn't put the book down. I lost sleep in the best way possible.
The story twisted and turned, keeping me guessing who did what and why.
Normally I don't enjoy reading first person books, but the author wrote it so well that I barely noticed.
I have to say, I was surprised to like a supernatural contemporary book. I usually read historical or high fantasy.
That bring said, I can't wait to read what happens next!

I am so impressed with this book. At first I was a little unsure, but as the story started to unravel I found myself more and more in love with this book. The romantic chemistry between Trinny and Sam is so well written. I love the tension built up between them and when they finally share a moment. The story itself is so intriguing, and I really want to know what goes down between Frank and Sam. Please write a sequel!

Matilda Ashby.
I was so glad a contract had been put on her life.
Harsh?
No stick with me on this.

Matilda Ashby is rich, she has a large Manhattan apartment, designer clothes a Mercedes she hardly drives. You get the picture.

But despite the privileged upbringing and all the money. She’s a genuinely nice person. She’s kind, thoughtful, works hard and bears no ill will to anyone.

The problem is she’s a people pleaser. Particularly with her father. She’s terrified of disappointing him. To the extent she’s dating a guy she doesn’t even like to please him. Her life revolves around work and anything her father wants her to do.

So despite all the trappings of wealth I felt sorry for her. The contract changed all that. It brought colour, Samson and yes the threat of death into her life. It also opened up a whole new world she thought only existed in books.

So her plain dull life suddenly became exciting. With Samson at her side they have to figure out who wants her dead. The race to stay alive is on….

I throughly enjoyed this book. It took me a little while to settle into it but once I had I was hooked. It also kept me guessing and re-guessing right until the end.

It also had one (for me anyway) laugh out loud moment.

“Having a rough time, rich girl?”

“She prefers Fancy Pants,” Samson unhelpfully corrected.

I don’t know why but my drink flew out of my mouth and across the room at that.

Now I’m just waiting for the next book.

I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.

Matilda Ashby steps into a world she never imagine existed when she finds out that supernatural beings are real. Someone has put a hit out on her and the things trying to kill her are not human. Although her family has money, Tilly she can't imagine what she's done to warrant this death sentence. The only one keeping her safe right now is her hired bodyguard, Samson, a telepath with a criminal past. Samson has never met a person less deserving of a death sentence as Tilly. She may be rich but she's got heart and he will do everything he can to make sure she survives. This fast-paced paranormal suspense novel has lots of action and a touch of romance. I look forward to the next book in the series. Recommended.
