I was intrigued to read this Middle Grade book as, being a mum, I am familiar with the Horrible Histories and also with the Lee Mack comedy show, both of wihich the author wrote.
Immediately it made me laugh and so I knew that if it made me laugh, it would have young reader rolling around the floor. The premise - the main character, Rita, maybe a toddler just learning to walk but she can read, write and has the sassy attitude of any teenager - and she is super smart. She wonders why other toddlers she meets are not into reading etc, like she is but before she can get an answer, her parents disappear and she seems to think that a strange clown who drives an ice-cream van seems to be following her. Using all of her skills, Rita sets out on a journey to track down her parents and maybe get some answers.

Middle graders will love this - there are some laugh out loud moments. I felt that towards the end everything was becoming a little contrived and Rita was finding very few obstacles that she couldn't overcome - bearing in mind her size, but hey - I'm an adult. This book is not meant for me. The target audience will love it - it has villains and soggy diapers. What is there not to love?
