I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

This was a really fun and sweet read, with a premise that had me thinking myself! I really enjoyed this one and would highly recommend.

Vera is having trouble with her website and when she calls the IT helpline she is surprised when she is connected with a real person. Vera ends up exchanging a number of messages and calls with Cal at the IT helpline. The two appear to be falling for each other over the phone.

This was a really fun read. This is a very fun, cute story. I really enjoyed the flirty banter between the two characters. Overall this was a sweet romance with the story being told by messages as the characters do not meet in person until the end of the story.

I had high hopes for this as I love a fun contemporary romance, but sadly this one didn’t work for me. I’m starting to think I’m not a fan of the insta love story and this is centred around that - two people who seemingly fall in love with a stranger over the phone after only a few hours.
I could have put that aside but I actually found it a little bit creepy. They are complete strangers and it’s a work call but the guy is always asking her to be safe and not do risky things, yet is dubious himself. It gave me definite Joe Goldberg (You) vibes, sorry!

3.5 / 5 Stars

This is a perfect light-hearted Rom-Com to read on the beach or on holiday this summer. The first half instantly sucks you in as Vera is in desperate need for someone to help fix her website. Where in she meets customer service representative, Cal. Chemistry between the two characters is instantly electric and their dynamic was one that I truly enjoyed reading. Vera is very much of a weird eccentric character that has this sort of silent effect on every one that she meets, whilst Cal wants to sort out her website himself and get it up and running for Vera's big Expo.

I did hit a slight slump half way through but I think that was more of a me-issue than a book issue. However that is where the book began to slightly slow down in pace and that didn't help me too much with the slump. But once I forced myself to sit and read it (rather than switching to TikTok), I managed to get sucked back in fairly quickly.

I was pleasantly surprised with the plot twist and hadn't really seen it coming. As plot twists go (in Romance especially) it was pretty good.

The last 10% was probably my favourite section from the second half of the book. That's where it started to become more gripping and exciting again, with both Cal and Vera having to overcome their own personal issue.

That ending though... Incredible. I could easily gush about this ending for half an hour straight. It felt cinematic, like a super-hero film that ends on an high, fades to black and instantly starts rolling the credits with an up-beat pop song whilst the theatre crowd sit there, stunned, hyped up and on a high.

I absolutely adored this book, from the eccentric and vivid characters, all the way to the posters of Edward Cullen. It's a humorous light-hearted read that's enjoyable from the very first page to the very last.

heartwarming, unpredictable, romantic and completely impossible to put down.
Just some of the ways I’d describe this book. I have loved how it has been written and have been completely caught up in the pages. I have loved the characters and the way this is written. Definitely a book I’ll be recommending.

I loved this book!! So much that I just downloaded the second one to listen to straight away! Both the main characters were funny and you straight away loved them! One of my favourite chick lits of the year I just wish it was a bit longer!

Call me maybe! This book did a great job of showing what it’s like dating in today’s climate, though most people would not quite start a relationship the way that Cal and Vera did, with many relationships starting online, then heading to phone conversations, it was a very real view of how a lot of relationships start nowadays and I really appreciated that detail.

What a lovely story.

I’ve read a few books titled ‘call me maybe’ but this was pretty unique. The book focuses on Cal and Vera. They meet over a telephone call where Vera is needing help with her build-your-own-website for her business. Her and Cal hit it off and a friendship forms and develops.

The author has a great way of writing, keeping the reader engaged and invested in the story.

I kind of predicted the little twists in the story but it didn’t detract from the enjoyment of reading it.

I’m 50/50 about the ending. It was quite abrupt and I’d love to know what happened next, how the date went, but then I appreciate the art of an author knowing where to end their story to leave the reader wanting more.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚

I absolutely loved it. Was completely drawn into the relationship from page one and didn’t want to put it down

'Call Me Maybe' was such a fast-paced, fun read that I flew through so fast because I just could not put it down. This book follows Cal and Vera who fall in love whilst talking through the customer service line in order to fix Vera's website. This book takes place over a week long period and is told over mainly dialogue between the two main characters which makes the book seem so fast-paced.

I loved both Vera and Cal and couldn't help but fall in love with them both and root for them both to fall in love with each other. The ending of this book even made me tear up a little bit, when Cal and Vera finally go to meet for the first time in person. The 'plot twist' was a little predictable and I did guess it when it was first hinted at half way through, but that in no way hinder my enjoyment of the book and these characters overall.

I can't wait to read the second book in this series, which I think is about Vera's brother Eliot because I found him so cute and funny in this book.

Thank you to Headline for providing me with an advance copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This books as pretty cute, I liked the idea of them meeting over the phone! I think that I had a difficult time connecting with the main character which is why I gave it a 3 stars instead of a 4 star,

Vera is having a melt down. She’s got reputation for being a quitter and never finishing what she starts she’s determined to prove her parents wrong with her new business date-in-box except her new website’s not working and she needs it operational by the end of the week. Customer service hotline to the rescue where she ends up having a marathon chat session with Cal.
This book is mostly dialogue given that the relationship blossoms over multiple phone calls. I have not a problem with this at all, it’s a very direct way of connecting with the reader and it’s interspersed with short chapters of character narrative to fill in the gaps and give some deeper insight into Vera and Cal. I was rooting for them all the way. And there’s a grumpy stealth cat thrown in for good measure.

Oh. My. God.
I don't think I've ever read a book that engaged me so much that I love it so much and then left me frustrated with the ending.
This is an amazing book, I've honestly never read anything like this before - ever.
The characters, the plotline, and the cherry on the top? The plot twist was chefs kiss.
But holy, hell.
I think I wanted to punch something when I got to the ending, but I settled with yelling in my pillow. I started reading the book at about 2/3 am and couldn't put it down until I finished it, those books are hard to come by and I think I might cry with the way it ended, which is purely the reason this book gets a 4-star review rather than the deserving 5. It's not like the ending was upsetting but more so frustrating.
Anyhow, I loved the way the book was written and it's just, yeah, would 100% recommend it to those looking for a quick, fun, incredible read.

I enjoyed this book but I think I’d maybe have enjoyed the audiobook more - it’s got fantastic reviews!

This book was so much fun! The fact that it was made as an audio original meant that a lot of the text based story was lacking and so the conflict felt a bit empty. That could simply be attributed to the face that I didn't do this on audio. I felt like the conflict was a bit useless because it was such a weird misunderstanding that got dragged out. Nonetheless I was still hooked on reading it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone was a cute, fun, lighthearted, easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I spent a lot of my time smiling while reading this one.

I loved the banter between Vera and Cal, and they were such likeable characters. Seeing the flirting, friendship, and chemistry grow over phone calls and text messages was just a delight.

Who hasn't rang a customer service line before and crushed a little over the helpful person on the other end of the line? For me, it was was the man who helped me with my self-assessment last year! I remember him fondly. Lol

The ending was sweet, although I would have loved one more chapter. I’m hoping that Vera and Cal may pop up in a future book. I’m thinking maybe if Vera’s brother gets one.

This was my first book by this author, and I wasn’t disappointed. I enjoyed the plot, the flow of the story and overall, it was well written, and I'm Looking forward to reading more from her.

I discovered after reading this one that it was initially made for audio. And from what reviews are saying, it's good and different. So I'm definitely going to have to pop to Audible to see if I can listen to a sample.

If your looking for a quick, cute, funny and endearing read, then one-click as you won't be disappointed.

A light sweet book. Bastone creates wholesome, lovable characters and you find yourself rooting for them from their very first phone call. A perfect holiday / lazy afternoon read

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance

Well, I'm a romance sucker and this sounded fun. For me though it was just that bit too cutesy, the conversations were humorous but at times it all felt a bit forced.

I liked the characters but they were almost too nice, neither seemed to have any real flaws. Then the “crash” - the bit where things go wrong was just a real storm in a teacup for me. The ending too, not really what I look for, its almost the start of the romance really. IMO of course :-) however as always horses for courses and all that, this sweet story has people that love it. Each to their own.
Its a very short read, more novella than novel and maybe that's part of the issue for me, I don't really feel they let the story be told fully. Maybe if it had another 100 pages or so following on from that end then....

Stars: two and a half. I didn't dislike it, its not a two star as there really wasn't anything to dislike, but its not a three, good read, either. That's why I'm meeting in the middle.
