This was a fantastic read and I thought the plot was brilliant! It follows 2 female police officers in the 90s who are still facing quite a lot of difficulties by just being female! You get to know a lot about their private lives and I really felt for both characters and what they had been through. As partners they get called into what seems like a death by natural causes but some things just don’t quite add up - the women get drawn into an investigation about a Serbian war criminal who is believed to already be dead. The book delved into the history of Serbia and Bosnia (which I found fascinating as I knew so little about it) without it being too heavily history based. I listened to this on audiobook and the narrator was amazing!! Their accents were brilliant and I couldn’t wait to get back in the car to keep listening. No spoilers but the ending was so clever and something I really didn’t guess! I would recommend this book, especially if you like a good crime story.

Firstly, I really liked the narration. It was subtle and clearly read.
The tale is set back in the ‘90s in the run up to Labour’s defeat of the Tories in the general election. In London 3 murders of men occur and all have links to a crime that took place during the Bosnian war. A war criminal, supposedly dead from suicide has been seen by one of the men in London but could this possibly be the case?
This is a fast moving thriller and I enjoyed nearly every minute.

I feel like I must be the only reader never to have heard of Ruth Hunter but to my chagrin I have to admit I had not, this means I read the as a newcomer to Ruth Hunter, this is an enjoyable listen, good police procedural mixed with war crimes and politics, narrated reasonably well but I did not relax completely with the narrators style, worth a listen

Rachel Hunter murder case #1

We were first introduced to Hunter as a detective leaving the Met for a quieter life in North Wales, so this is a prequel series of her earlier days set in 1997
🎧audio version. Firstly the narrator Rachel Atkins is excellent, love the atmosphere she gives it and the accents for the different characters.

The title and the topic didn’t instantly grab me. However it’s a light easy, entertaining listen. A lot lighter than the title suggests.
After attending the death of an elderly man Rachel becomes suspicious that it’s not an natural death. It leads her on the trail of a Serbian war criminal who is supposedly dead.
It’s fast paced. It kept my attention well as there is plenty going on.
Lucy I feel is the more likeable of the two main characters.
I can see why this author has become so popular.

Oh my goodness, this was so good! I love British crime shows and it had that feel. This checked off the boxes for me. Rachel Atkins narrated this audiobook and was excellent. I highly recommend listening to this.
Lucy and Ruth are detectives that have worked hard to get where they are. They prove that women can definitely do what was once only a mans job. Their partnership brought fun to the story and I was excited seeing them solve this mystery.
People were dying and it almost goes undetected as murder. Very entertaining with all the excitement of solving a mystery. Really good stuff.
