Since I became an adult I have been working on improving my love of art. This was a very helpful book. I took 10 minutes everyday to work on drawing and just being more confident in myself. Each drawing was broken down well and made this very easy. Plus as a mother I usually only have a short amount of time

Do you have a secret desire to create art? Kateri Ewing's book, "Drawing is for Everyone" will help you take steps toward your goal. The author takes the beginning artist step-by-step through the lessons that teach you the process of drawing, starting with simple pencil lines through more complex work. She shows you what materials you will need for each lesson and encourages you to spend 15 minutes each day on your art. I love Ms. Ewing's teaching philosophy that art - drawing in particular- is accessible to everyone. Her advice to "... Leave your expectations and self-criticism at the door" is the foundation of her supportive and encouraging approach to teaching.

This is a beautiful book and excellent book for a beginning artist. It will help you approach your drawing with joyful anticipation.

Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

A book to help develop and focus your drawing skills. The author starts with graphite pencils taking the reader through density and texture simply using pressure, then onto finer drawing shapes and movement. She brings in the coloured pencils followed by ink. There is plenty of discussion about the different media and lots of examples to try, all helping to develop your own style. Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

I have never been good at drawing. In a family of artists I always felt out of place cause of that. My grandpa, my mum, my sister, they can all draw and they make it seem easy. I however struggled from school days.

This book was an amazing find for that reason. It not only has very easy instructions to follow with very simple tools but you unlearn a lot of the biases and fears you may have towards drawing and as such are more likely to approach it with a sense of interest than fear!

Most instructional books on drawing, painting etc, give you a very long list of tools and materials that make you never want to start because you have the added task of finding these and purchasing them, but this book used very simple, easy to obtain tools and materials that meant I could jump right into the learning part without anything to distract me or overwhelm me.

The book also comes with very clear and easy to understand instructions accompanied by examples which make it easier to follow as well.

So if you want to learn to draw and feel it is way too hard, or something that is not for you, this book is the one you need to pick up! It definitely will build your drawing skills but also your confidence to draw. Truly drawing is for everyone!

Great for beginners or those of us who like making art but who struggle with even getting started.

Some of the projects are as simple as making squares and circles that overlap as a way to experiment with color.

The river stones project also involves just making a few curved lines and then a bunch of circles and coloring them in.

Others are a little more advanced, but still beginner friendly. There are projects like landscapes, koi fish, feather, flowers. The book also explores using different mediums like pencils, colored pencils, and watercolors.

Very good book if you’re struggling to find drawing projects to get you started and/or just need inspiration for simple projects.

Be encouraged to draw
Self-taught artist, author and teacher Kateri Ewing presents "Drawing is for Everyone. Simple Lessons to Make Your Creative Practice a Daily Habit – Explore Infinite Creative Possibilities in Graphite, Colored Pencil, and Ink", published by Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry. Ewing states that "Somewhere along our path to adulthood, we lose that spontaneous, creative courage. My wish is to help you reclaim it" (p. 6). To achieve this goal she is using a dual approach: "In this book, we learn about two ways of drawing—the seeing-based representational way and the more expressive, abstract way. Both forms of drawing are much richer when we tap into our unique and intuitive way of mark making instead of following a step-by-step formula, which can lead to discouragement when what we draw doesn’t measure up to our expectations of what we were trying to copy" (p. 6). After the introduction which contains two topics: 1) A creative Drawing Practice for Everyone, and 2) The Four Guiding Principles of a Creative Drawing Practice, the lessons in the book are divided into three blocks: Graphite, Colored Pencil, and Ink. Each one lists the materials which are needed and is presented with a step-by-step approach. Ewing also challenges the readers to use their creativity and has included sample pictures by other artists for some of the lessons. At the end of the book she has also included a list of resources and an index.
This is the second book by this author which I have read (after Watercolor is for Everyone) and I also appreciated this book. It is presented with a great design and pictures. I highly recommend it for all those artists who want to study the art of drawing more in depth, no matter if they are using graphite, colored Pencil, or ink.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Drawing is for Everyone by Kateri Ewing is a great introduction to drawing as well as creating a daily drawing habit. Some how-to drawing books can be condescending and/or intimidating but not this one.

After discussing the four principles of how to create a drawing habit, Ewing presents 21 lessons divided equally among three sections - Graphite, Colored Pencil and Ink. Each section first discusses materials and then proceeds to the seven lessons. Ewing explains each step perfectly along with a heaping dose of encouragement. It’s also helpful to see drawings from Ewing’s students when she taught each lesson. It’s inspiring to see other’s work when taking the same class. I definitely felt my artistic talent improve after doing successive lessons and plan to go through these 21 lessons again. I highly recommend this book for those wanting to learn to draw and create a daily drawing habit.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Books - Quarry Books for an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

An approachable and encouraging introduction to drawing. The book is organized in three sections by medium--graphite, colored pencil, and ink--and contains seven lessons in each section. There are step-by-step drawings to follow, suggested materials, and student art examples for each lesson. This seems like a soothing, low-pressure way to start drawing or revitalize your practice. I was pleased to see that there is no space for artists to practice on the pages of the book, because I am purchasing this for our public library and someone would inevitably fill in any exercise spaces and ruin the book for anyone else. Good for medium or large public library collections.

This is a good book for helping you find inspiration to keep drawing every day, even if you don't know what to draw. This book guides through several lessons to get your creative juices flowing. You can play with colors and patterns and use just about any medium, just pick up your drawing instrument and do it!

As an artist, I love checking out instructional art books. There is always something more to learn. Maybe even a technique I may have forgotten or a new way to do something etc. However this book I have mixed feelings about. Though it is visually appealing, for a beginner to drawing there are some holes. There is info missing leaving the execution of teaching something to be desired. I just feel the author isn't connecting to the reader to help them grasp the "how to" it could use more development. For someone like myself it's a fun way to freshen up skills.

In short, I would recommend this book to someone with a basic knowledge and background in drawing, This book would be a good companion to a basic drawing guide to enhance the techniques learned with in these pages.

This series of art books has been a welcomed edition to our public library's 700s. The practices really build on each other and present a simple step-by-step into a drawing practice.

With this book ‘Drawing is for Everyone’ I was inspired to pick up my coloured pencils and try some of the techniques and exercises and have some fun. Ideal for beginners as a prompt to get the creative juices flowing and take the ‘fear’ out of a blank piece of paper. Delightfully illustrated and an enjoyable book for inspiring artists.

This is a lovely book that advocates the practice of drawing for a few minutes a day. The lessons themselves are split into three sections; using graphite pencils, coloured pencils, and ink and each section talks about the materials needed. There are seven lessons for each medium; a total of 21 lessons over all.

The lessons themselves are really helpful, with step by step guides and example pictures, including some from the author's students which demonstrate what can be done by ordinary people using the lessons that Ewing has set out.

A really good book to use as an introduction to drawing and introducing a bit of creativity into your day.
