I loved the sound of this book, very original .However I found it a bit too whimsical for me, and I couldn't connect with the main character, which put me off. Hopefully it is just me, and other readers will enjoy it more.

When Shirley Steadman is presenting her regular hospital radio programme one evening, she stumbles upon a mystery station - Mallet FM. She tunes in just in time for the news broadcast - only to hear the station reporting tomorrow's news today. As more of the news proves itself to be true, and haunted by visions of her son who took his own life years beforehand, Shirley investigates - who is behind Mallet FM? Can they really see the future? And when predictions of murder are made, can anyone stop the future?

This is a well-written book - Shirley is a very likeable protagonist. The book straddles genres - from mystery to science fiction to farce at times, as Shirley tries to unravel the mysteries of Mallet FM. My one quibble is that I did see the final reveal coming a mile off, but I don't think it spoils the book in the end!

This one just didn't work for me I'm afraid.
The more I read, the more unbelievable and over the top I felt it became.
Just not MY cup of tea this time.

Excellent.
Shirley Steadman, a 70 year old living in a small town in the North East of England, loves her volunteer work at the local hospital radio. She likes giving back to the community, and even more so, she likes getting out of the house. Haunted by the presence of her son, a reluctant Royal Navy officer who was lost at sea, and still in the shadow of her long dead abusive husband, she doesn't like being alone much.
One day, at the radio station, she is playing around with the equipment and finds a frequency that was never there before. It is a pirate radio station, and as she listens as the presenter starts reading the news. But there is one problem - the news being reported is tomorrows. Shirley first thinks it is a mere misunderstanding - a wrong date. But she watches as everything reported comes true
Thanks to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for giving me an advanced copy.
