BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Liar Next Door' by Nicola Marsh.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Nicola Marsh, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 23rd August 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'My Sister's Husband' which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Liane Moriarty, Sally Hepworth and The Girl on the Train will love this utterly unputdownable domestic thriller from USA Today bestselling author Nicola Marsh.' I am a huge fan of 'The Girl In The Train' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Nicola Marsh and if this is half as good as 'My Sister's Husband' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 72 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Brooklyn, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in first person perspective with the main protagonist being Frankie, Saylor and Celeste. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

OMG!!!! WHAT DID I JUST READ!?!?! MIND BLOWN!!!! CLEAR YOUR TIMETABLE AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!!

Another absolutely fantastic book from Nicola with vivid descriptions which put you right in the picture. It really felt like Frankie, Saylor and Celeste were talking directly to me from across the table over a cup of tea. The synopsis and cover suit the book perfectly.

The storyline is absolutely addictive and had me sucked in from the first page until the explosive ending. I couldn't stop turning the pages until early hours of the morning so if you pick this up I seriously advice you to clear your schedules and also have the tissues at the ready. It is filled with secrets, blackmail, deceipt, friendship and bombshell after bombshell that I did not see coming!!! A huge well done to Nicola on them EXPLOSIVE REVEALS!!! I would have never guessed either of the twists in a million years. Very rarely I am shocked by books having read so many but this absolutely had me a cracker and completely blew my mind. If you are fed up of guessing the ending by 50% then this one is for you!!! Just when you think you couldn't be shocked any more BOOM another one comes out of nowhere!!! Whilst I loved the ending it was also heartbreaking for a certain person and I felt so sorry on him. It is so hard to talk about it without giving anything away so I will just say if you want a book with a twist you will NEVER see coming this one is for you!!! This book is fast paced with so much action that once you 'pop' you will not be able to stop until you have finished!!! Just when I thought I best finish this chapter and get some sleep BANG another cliff hanger ending so I ended up staying awake until 3am until I finished it and even then I was just completely mind blown. This book will stay with you for ages!!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

All of the main characters were strong realistic characters and I was completely invested in them all. I absolutely loved reading about each neighbour and the more I read and the deeper I delved into their secrets, lies and deceit the more shocked I became page after page. The characters all worked perfectly together for the storyline. There was only one character by the end that I really felt for and thought was the only innocent victim in it all apart from the children. I can't say anymore than that as it will give too much away.

AN ABSOLUTELY HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Nicola on what has got to be the book with the most twists in that I have EVER read. I knew there was a reason you are one of my favourite authors, extremely well deserved. This would make an absolutely epic movie. I look forward to your next explosive novel as always!!!

Overall an addictive, page turning non stop action packed read with bombshells you will never see coming!!!

Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'The Girl On The Train', Shalini Boland, fans if Nicola Marsh and absolutely anyone looking for a book that will blow your mind,

321 pages.

This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Nicola Marsh has written a great tale centring on three women Frankie, Celeste, and Saylor, living in the same street - Vintage Circle in Hambridge Heights, Brooklyn. Frankie Forbes is married to Andre and they have a daughter, five-year-old Luna. Five months pregnant Saylor Abernathy and Lloyd have been married for nine months and have recently moved into their home. Celeste is a single mum with a young daughter, Violette and she is keen to befriend Frankie and for their daughters to become besties.

The story starts with a steady trot as the three main characters are introduced. It's obvious that each has a closet of secrets just waiting to be unearthed so of course I immediately found myself guessing and second-guessing what these might be. A super, tense thriller that I enjoyed immensely, this was one of those books where everyone is not particularly personable but this adds enrichment to the story, so you love it anyway. Very highly recommended, I look forward to Nicola Marsh's next novel.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

“Oh what a tangled web we weave"….A small group of mothers each with their own secrets. One sees an ex who now lives across the street, someone she really didn't want to come into her life. Another who has run away from something or someone and wishes to remain invisible to them. Most of this is done from Frankie’s point of view. She is a vlogger and has a secret in her marriage. Alternate chapters give the stories of Frankie in the past and then present day the other main characters. Cleverly written- there is so much subterfuge that I wasn't sure who is the liar in the title and even if there was more than one. Each tells a little without really saying anything other than wanting to hide things from others as doing so would shatter their lives or their families. Twists and turns and then the ending! OMG- once seen it all became clear. Not a book to peek at the end of as allis revealed in the last chapter or two. Clever, very well thought out and yet complex in its own way (but easy to follow). One to remember- Im stunned!

Scrolling through the available titles on NetGalley this book’s title and the cover caught my eye, and once I read the blurb I simply had to read this book. So firstly, thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this title.
The Liar Next Door will keep you flicking the pages as you are drawn into a community that is tighter knit than even they realise. This book looks at friendship, family and most importantly trust and the consequences if partners lose trust in one another. Filled with deception, these characters will leave you chilled as they reveal the lengths they will go to, to get what they want.
Nicola Marsh had me glued to the pages with her complex characters and their ulterior motives. Her detail on maternal instinct and her explosive emphasis on Frankie’s insecurities was brilliantly realistic. I enjoyed her writing and I hope I will have the opportunity to read more of her work.
When two new neighbours move into the small community, Frankie is on high alert, especially since one of the new neighbours is a single mom. Frankie has moved past Andre’s betrayal from five years ago, but she still keeps an eye on him. The niggle of uncertainty is always there and something is not quite right with the new neighbour. Struggling to maintain the appearance of a perfect life, which her vlog followers expect, Frankie battles to trust Celest and her eagerness for their daughters – Luna and Violette – to be friends forces the two women together more than Frankie is comfortable with. Are her insecurities getting the better of her? Or should she trust her gut? Is Luna safe around Celest and her daughter?
The book drags you in, paints a picture you fall in love with and then drops a bombshell that leaves you reconsidering all your opinions. I could not get enough.
Frankie is an amazing character. She is young and vulnerable, destroyed by her parents' life choices when you meet her and this leads to her making some bad decisions. However, she recognises her mistakes and tries to make up for them. You fall in love with her commitment to her daughter and respect her trying to keep her family together even after Andre confesses to cheating on her.
The is an explosive read that is jam-packed with twists you do not expect. I loved every minute I spent with these characters.
Thriller and mystery fans, as well as mom’s of all ages, will find themselves unable to put this one down. It is a brilliantly twisty tale that will leave you chilled. This is a fabulous read you will not regret adding to your TBR.

Wow! Nicola Marsh hit it out of the park again with this one. More twists and turns than a Rocky Mountain road way, this book will have you exclaiming OMG many times and the end will leave you speechless. Well written with lovable, hateable, and relatable characters, this book was impossible to put down. Definitely put this one on your must read list.

Although the vast majority of the plot of this twisty thriller concentrates on Frankie who was married to Andre and they had a young daughter called Luna, the story was actually about three women who lived in neighbouring houses. There was Saylor who was married to Lloyd and pregnant with their first child and Celeste who had recently moved into the house next door to Frankie with her young daughter Violette. The three women lived on Vintage Circle, a close knit community of thirty houses that surrounded a square of garden that was perfect for community gatherings and celebrations. From the outside, the women's lives all appeared perfect especially Frankie's but in reality, behind closed doors things were not as they appeared to be and each one of the trio was under some sort of pressure and harbouring their own personal secret or two.

The chapters alternated between the perspectives of the three main characters as they went about their lives and interacted with each other and various other individuals who appeared throughout the story. Each of the women was realistic with their own unique personalities and character traits and to be honest, I couldn't say that I thought any of them was very likeable. The story was packed full of secrets and lies and the vast majority of the characters were untrustworthy but there was a adult character that I felt a lot of sympathy for and another who the author cleverly manipulated into believing was the complete opposite of who they really were. My heart went out to the two innocent little girls who had found themselves caught up in the middle of the adults web of lies and deception.

Interspersed throughout the story was chapters that took the reader through Frankie's backstory from when she eighteen and met a character called Walter, how, where and when she met Andre and eventually catching up with events that were unfolding in the present day.

This is a extremely well written, enthralling blend of domestic drama and thriller that keeps the reader guessing and glued to your kindle. The author draws the reader into her realistic character's fictional world from the first page, gradually building up the tension and keeping you captivated as the story worked it's way towards its intense conclusion and all the secrets were revealed in all their unexpected glory. This is the first book that I have read that was written by this author and it will most definitely not be my last. Gripping, thriller, addictive, and very very highly recommended

The Liar Next Door is a domestic thriller.

The book focuses on 3 women: Frankie, Celeste and Saylor (all 1st person POVs). Frankie's chapters are THEN and NOW. And the other women's chapters are in the present.

The women all live near each other in a close-knit community where 30 houses surround a garden.

30 year old Frankie is a popular lifestyle vlogger. She's married to Andre and they have a 5 year old daughter Luna.

38 year old Celeste and her daughter Violette move in next door.

26 year old Saylor and her husband Lloyd have been in their home for only a few weeks.

These three women are the focus of the story. None of them are super likable. But they all are hiding secrets.

This book is super twisty and I think that the author did a very good job weaving this story in unexpected ways. I read a lot of thrillers and I was surprised with many of the reveals.

Honestly when I saw the cover with the little girl I thought that she was going to be the liar. But the two kids in this book are lovely.

Even though all of the characters were hiding things I really enjoyed this book. I really liked Frankie's chapters from the past as I thought that added a lot to the story.

This is a fun and twisty thriller that I really enjoyed!

Crikey, what an awesome novel! We learn about three women, Celeste, Frankie and Saylor and the secrets they are keeping while living in the same little community. Expect the unexpected from this unputdownable thriller.

If there’s something strange
In the neighbourhood
Who you gonna call?
If there’s something weird and it don’t look good
Who can you call? Well I would not advise Ghostbusters but a good psychologist might do the trick as this is one messed up neighbourhood with even more messed up inhabitants.

Three women, Frankie, Celeste and Saylor all live in Hambridge Heights in Brooklyn. Frankie is a lifestyle vlogger with a seemingly perfect life with husband Andre and daughter Luna. Celeste is a single mum to Violette who is running from her past and Saylor is pregnant and married to Lloyd but is keeping something from him.

Narrated in the present but with some chapters telling you of Frankie’s past there is so much going on and so many characters (with exes also included) my poor brain was in danger of information overload. Luckily they soon became fully formed in my mind as they are all so very different.

A slower paced books that affords you the time to really get to know your new neighbours and in my opinion this book is so much more than the missing child the blurb represents. It’s a clever and complex thriller that snaps without filters to show the truth behind the picture perfect facades. With some revealing twists and unlikeable characters how well do you know your neighbours?

Opening this book is like opening Pandora’s box, so let curiosity get the better of you and discover for yourself all the secrets and connections that reside behind the doors at Hambridge Heights.

Just by virtue of the fact that the author has written a total of 77 books, you are pretty much guaranteed that you are in safe hands with this psychological novel.

The book is written in the first-person accounts of three women who live in a close-knit community on the east coast of the US of A. Frankie is a lifestyle blogger earning big money but since her husband’s affair, her life isn’t as perfect as the image she portrays in her daily vlogs. Mother to five-year old Luna, she is fiercely protective of their privacy and the secrets she wants no one, especially her husband to know.

Saylor, newly married and pregnant, has recently moved to the area but struggles to forget the love of her life, handsome Ruston after being introduced to fellow Christian, Lloyd, by her parents in order to move on from Ruston once again breaking her heart. When she realises that he is one of her neighbours, she cannot stop herself from peeking into his life. When we discover that she is being blackmailed and this was the reason for her relocation to Hambridge Heights, the suspense certainly becomes more intriguing.

Celeste has also just moved to the neighbourhood with her five-year-old daughter Violette and she is clearly hiding some secrets as to why she turned up with only a couple of bags under the cover of darkness and why she has an unhealthy interest in befriending Frankie.

We get little snatches of each of the character’s backgrounds along the way, their flaws and their disappointments. The build-up increases as more secrets are exposed by the three women. More than anything I loved the friendship unravelling between Frankie and Celeste.

I could not have expected the twists and turns through the novel and as the tension increases there are some pretty shocking revelations that I was not expecting.

The only downside was that on occasions, I had to keep reminding myself whether it was Frankie, Celeste or Saylor who was telling each chapter’s story.

This is a heart-warming story of love, friendship, loyalty, family, and trust wrapped up in a brilliant psychological thriller.

A quiet neighborhood, lies and secrets! Couldn't put it down until the last page. Hold on to your hats, this is a fast moving thriller!

Hold on tightly, because you are in for a ride!
Nicola March has written another emotional, absorbing book of secrets that lead to lies and it seems everyone has a secret.
I received an advanced copy of this book from. Netgalley and the Publisher, Bookouture. The review and comments are my honest opinion.

Whoever said “trust thy neighbor” clearly did not read The Liar Next Door. What starts out as a lovely neighborhood gathering of meeting the new neighbors quickly turns into finger pointing. Who can you trust?

Frankie Forbes is the quintessential put together mother and vlogger. BUT what is she hiding and what does Celeste her new neighbor have to do with what she is hiding?

Saylor seems to be the quiet pregnant new neighbor but she has a secret too! Seems like everyone on the block is hiding something and they are all wrapped up in each other!

The book famously flips back and forth between the past and the present. It is also told from multiple point of views which is always intriguing. Kudos to Nicola Marsh for keeping us on our toes throughout this one!!

This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I found myself not being able to put it down until I finished it. I was shocked at all of the lies and secrets that were running rampant in Hambridge Heights. I honestly guessed several of the twists or so I thought but unfortunately the author kept throwing twists in which totally threw me off course. I never predicted that ending whatsoever.

A servicable domestic suspense/thriller told from the perspectives of three women who are neighbors with various secrets and suspicions. An enjoyable but probably not memorable read. I thought the pace was a bit slow and it never quite felt like a page turner despite delivering drama and intrigue.

There are secrets. then there are Secrets and then there are SECRETS! Then there is the LIAR next door!

Secrets and lies make for one interesting block party!

Living in a close-knit community surrounding a garden sounds lovely. A place to get to know your neighbors, a place to raise your children, a place that on paper is ideal...but is it?

This book goes back and forth from Frankie's past to her present. But it is not all about Frankie, it is also about Celeste, and Saylor. All have a story to tell. All have things going on in their lives. Juicy things, sordid things, secrets, jealousy, and fears. Let's just say that there are some skeletons in the closet.

This was a gripping fast paced read. I chalk it up to a guilty pleasure all the way and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book has a campy nighttime soap opera feel to it and it WORKED so well in this book. There are twists, there are turns, there are reveals, and there are some shake your head moments. But make no mistake - It's all about the connections, secrets and lies in this book!

I suggest going into this blind and enjoy where this book takes you!

Gripping, fast paced and dramatic!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Three women - Frankie, Celeste, and Saylor - are next door neighbors to one another. Married Frankie is a successful lifestyle blogger with millions of fans. Single mother Celeste just moved in next door with her daughter Violette. Newly married and pregnant Saylor also just moved in and is anxious to get to know the neighbors. Celeste does her best to try to engage with Frankie so that shy Violette can play with and hopefully form a friendship with Frankie's bubbly daughter, Luna. Saylor wants to fit in and invites herself to join Frankie and Celeste whenever she sees them at the park with their daughters. These three neighbors are attempting to get to know each other to become better friends. They are also harboring secrets and will do whatever it takes to protect their families.

This is a great book about secrets neighbors keep from one another. How well do you really know your neighbor and what goes on behind closed doors? The past plays a significant role with these women and what makes them the person they are today. The women are all tied up together somehow and the book flip flops from past to present as you try to put the pieces together. And when you think all secrets are revealed there's another bombshell that's thrown in at the end. Overall I like the storyline but it was a little slow-paced for me and the characters were not very likable. But it was a page-turner for me and I look forward to reading more of this author's books.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

The Liar Next Door by Nicola Marsh

📓Genre: Mystery | Thriller | Suspense
Star: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 (3.7 rounded to 4 stars)

🔖 A seemingly close knit  neighborhood, a bunch of apparently happy and 'perfect' families, an over friendly stranger – a spot on setting for a mystery thriller!
🔖The story primarily follows the lives of three women, each harboring her own secrets. As the book progresses however, they aren't just the only ones keeping up a façade. Underneath the 'perfect' community – too many people are revealed to be hiding too many murky secrets.
🔖In a story where it's almost impossible to believe in the trustworthiness of any character, the author has done a good job of creating an intriguing and enjoyable plot. There are some subtle clues scattered amidst the web of lies, and as the pace picked up in the last few chapters, the conclusion was quite satisfactory.
🔖Overall, I liked this dark twisty psychological thriller and would surely recommended it.

🔸Final Verdict: Good
🔸Book Cover: The anonymity of the woman adds to the intriguing quotient.
🔸Writing Style: Holds the interest of the reader.
🔸Character Development: Good

BOOKWORMS REVIEW:
Centred around 3 women in a close knit neighbourhood- Frankie,Celeste and Saybor, this domestic drama was a grower for me. We get to learn alot about the main characters in the first chunk of the book and they're quite flawed people. When lies and bad decisions make life messy, they try to make the best of a bad situation. An enjoyable read overall. With thanks to Bookouture,Netgalley and Nicola Marsh for an ARC in exchange for my review.
