Make the Drawings of Buildings look great
Knowing architect, artist, and author David Drazil from his courses and newsletter I was interested in his new book "Draw Like an Artist: 100 Buildings and Architectural Forms. Step-by-Step Realistic Line Drawing - A Sourcebook for Aspiring Artists and Designers", published by Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry in the "Draw Like an Artist... " series. Drazil's love as an architect is to sketch and to share his passion for visual representation of architecture. He states about the book: "This book will help you not only to adopt an effective approach to the architectural sketching process but also to understand the depicted buildings better—their proportions, scale, structure, and tectonics" (p. 6). The book offers an impressive array of buildings (residential, commercial, institutional, cultural), bridges, towers, monuments (historic, sacred), and more presented as step-by-step line drawings with reference to their geographic location. The steps of the drawings can be grouped into four stages: 1) Start with composition, 2) Outline volume & context, 3) Add textures, and 4) Shading & Final Touches.
I was impressed by the book and highly recommend it to graphic design and architectural students, to architects and artists, as well as to readers with a general interest in architectural drawing. It will help them with proportion and depth perception, with perception and spatial relationship. The book can be inspirational for drawing actual buildings as well as for developing fictive ones.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was very impressed with the wide variety of buildings presented with step-by-step directions on how to draw them.

I love that it's not difficult to follow the drawings are a geared more towards beginners and could use more in-depth instructions. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to learn how to draw different architectural forms. This is perfect for students and is great for those looking to improve proportions and depth perception in their drawings.

This is a great step-by-step guide to drawing all kinds of buildings. Each one is presented as a series of lines to show how to get to the end result. There is a wide variety of buildings. An intro section goes into basics like shading, though it does expect you to have basic art instruction. It's in black and white and most of the buildings have a very geometric, linear, almost modern feel to them (even if they are ancient structures). A great guide.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.

There's a wide variety of different buildings with step-by-step directions on how to draw them, I love that it's not difficult to follow but I think the applications are a little bit simplistic and not that specific. I recommend it to people that want to learn how to draw different architectural forms, also I think students of graphic design would like this book to get new ideas or inspiration.

Draw like an Artist: 100 Buildings and Architectural Forms is an instructional workbook to help beginner and intermediate artists develop the technical skills required for this area. Relevant concepts such as perspective, size, proportions and spatial awareness are covered. The style is mainly contemporary, although a number of world famous buildings are included in the projects. The approach is step by step but a complete beginner might still find it a bit of a challenge. Overall an excellent book that covers a lot of ground and will really improve your skills.

What a fabulous idea to have a step-by-step on how to draw well-known buildings from around the world. This is a must-have for me as I find I still have a lot to learn when it comes to drawing buildings accurately. It really helps to see how to even start the first few lines. With enough practice, I should be able to assess and start sketching accurate lines for any building. Can't wait to get started.

4 stars, Interesting

Draw Like an Artist: 100 Buildings and Architectural Forms
by David Drazil

This is a how-to drawing book. It shows handy hints and helpful tips to make your drawings look more realistic. I gave it 4 stars because it was only available on the NetGalley Shelf book reader. It would have been nice if it were available in Adobe Digital Form, so I could actually try the techniques out. I'm not an artist, but I'm willing to try and willing to learn.

I received a complimentary copy of #DrawLikeanArtist100BuildingsandArchitecturalForms from #netgalley I was under no obligation to post a review.
