I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

To some Thornhallow Hall might be tarnished by tales of vengeance and ghosts, but to new housekeeper Rebecca Merrickson it represents independence and peace from her tumultuous past. Until the estate’s owner William Reid, the disappeared Earl, unexpectedly returns… After clashing over the changes she’s made to the house, Rebecca slowly unearths the memories that haunt brooding Liam, and her defiance gives way to a shockingly improper attraction to her master!

I wasn't entirely sure about this book going in, as I've never been a huge fan of gothic literature, and although it's very readable, it did turn out to be a bit too melodramatic for me. I don't think I would have minded if it had had a little more humour to it, but it takes itself very seriously, with its crumbling old mansion and brooding hero. The narration is a little bit overwrought for me, which meant I struggled to connect fully with the hero and heroine as I was too focused on the sentences to enjoy the emotions. Still, this is a sweet romance at its core, and it would be absolutely perfect for readers who do love that gothic tone and all the drama it brings.

I did enjoy this book, although the pace was a little slow at times, there was plenty of action in the latter part. The two main characters Rebecca and Liam were likeable. There was a mystery surrounding the Hall and why it was difficult to get staff. Rebecca, too, had a mystery as to why she kept changing her jobs. Rebecca is a hard working and strong woman. Liam, the earl, also had something in his background that he was reluctant to talk about. These are gradually revealed and I’m glad to say I didn’t have to wait until the end to find out these mysteries. Rebecca and Liam were attracted to each other but their stations in life were very different. There are some dangerous events and passionate moments. I will look to future books by this author. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I did preorder my own copy.

Thornhallow Hall might be tarnished by tales of vengeance and ghosts, but to new housekeeper Miss Rebecca Merrickson aka Mrs Hardwicke it represents independence and peace from her tumultuous past. Until the estate’s owner, William Reid, the disappeared earl, unexpectedly returns after ten years away. After clashing with him over the changes she’s made to the house, Rebecca slowly unearths the memories that haunt brooding Liam.
A new author to me & I enjoyed this hauntingly well written book. The characters were well portrayed & had depth. The story flowed well, there were secrets that were gradually revealed. I liked both Liam & Rebecca who were both haunted by their pasts but I found the chemistry between them to be slightly lacking. That said they did complement each other & deserved their HEA.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Fabulous, a novel premise of a young runaway searching for a role that will keep her safe. A lovely tale, with enough pace and action to keep you reading, but not too much speed to miss the emotion and the romance building. A surprising few explosions draws you in all the way through and keeps you hanging on until the happy ending everyone deserves.

5 Word Review: Secrets, history, family, trust, love.

This was the historical romance I needed right now, full of atmosphere and passion. It was excellent.

I really liked Rebecca's character - she's messy and headstrong and proud. She takes great pride in herself and the households she runs, even if she does break the rules. She's sassy with it sometimes, Rebecca has secrets, and I liked the slow unravelling of them and they way their built her character. Despite the secrets she keeps, she has a wonderful sense of integrity, and it was very endearing.

The simmering attraction between Rebecca and Liam is almost palpable. Every time they were close their was intense lust between them, the kind that has you going NOW KISS. And it's a slow burn, so it is frustrating in the best of ways, especially as there are so many little thing that help drive the passion. They're messy with it too, especially when they don't trust each other at the start.

This is a couple that you don't just want to be together, you need them to be together.

This romance almost felt gothic. I love the setting, Thornhallow Hall has such atmosphere, and I loved how other things like the weather and the characters actions built upon it. The sprawling Jacobian manner house truly comes to life on the page, and I wish I could explore further. I liked the dark background, the locked doors, the neglected interior. I love things being brought back to life and how it was all driven by Rebecca.

I wish I could read this again for the first time in the autumn, it would be perfect for reading with a hot chocolate while it's raining outside.

The story begins with Rebecca walking towards the imposing and isolated house on the hill. Although she had heard tales of the house of ghosts and murder. She needed to escape and being an housekeeper in a secluded, mysterious house meant she could escape London.

I'm a big fan of Downton Abbey and as Rebecca sat in the servants hall, with a different cast of characters and a different home it gave me a sense of warmth. I loved the insta love Liam felt towards Rebecca and the journey they went on was really entertaining. Rebecca is a strong character who does things her way and I admired her for that. The house is creepy and throughout the book gives the impression of a ghostly past. Loved the storyline, loved the characters and enjoyed the romance.
