This was a great book that really helped me decorate my home and get in the mood to really redecorate everything.

This is a very practical and easy to understand book about styling your home to suit both the space and people using the space.
There is a short introduction which includes Proportions, scale/form, design grid, creating focal point and self art.
Further into the book there re again areas to look at such as Tone/Colour, Texture, Lighting and Finishing touches. The last part of the book talks about the various room in the house and how to define them.
I found this book really interesting and very useful on a starting point in design. Many books have glamour photos, fabulous furnishing, but no substance on how to achieve a look to suit your personality. This book whilst beautifully photographed and the nut and bolts on how to achieve your look.

Whilst it is called 'Essential Style Solutions for Every Home', the images and ideas in the book do not really lend themselves to "Every Home". If you have a home that looks more like a hotel lobby then this is a great book but it's not for me.

It covers lots of information over the book. It is divided into two main sections, First Principles of Style and Room by Room, which each section having more subsections:
First Principles of Style: Tones & Colours, Texture, Lighting, and Finishing Touches
Room by Room: Entrance Hallways, Kitchen & Dining Spaces, Living Rooms, Bedroom, and Bathrooms

The choices made in Tones & Colours are all rather muted, Nothing to pop at you at all. Again rather like a hotel than a home. Plus each room shown is enormous, which given that most new build homes are getting smaller and smaller, it again does not live up to the Every Home aspect.

Overall I was rather disappointed with the book, it seems to cater to the middle classes with no personality or children rather than anyone else.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

Interior design fans will enjoy Kelly Hoppen's newest book. This one is chalk full of Hoppen's signature style. The book begins with the basics of interior design, explains colour, texture and such in detail, then applies each of these concepts by room. There are plenty of tips and tricks that aspiring designers can take from this book. Even a simple flip through can provide anyone with inspiration. I have read several reviews stating that the designs displayed in this book are all from high budget, large homes. I think it is important to keep in mind that every page contains rooms designed by Kelly herself, and therefore large budgets must have been involved. That being said, anyone can think outside the box when applying these concepts to their own home. We can all apply elements of colouur, texture, placement and such to any home, no matter our budget. My favorite take away from this book was Hoppen's design grid technique. I had not thought of designing a room in quite this way before and look forward to using this planning technique in the future. Overall, this was a good read.

This book was ok, however I don’t think I gained a lot more knowledge from reading it than I already had.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

As well as books I also love interiors. So obviously, I love having them both combined.

This is not my first Kelly Hoppen book but it was just as good as her others. The photography was beautiful and I loved that some of the images were from Hoppen’s own home.

The book was also full of little hints and tricks to get the best out of your interior. Some of the information was a little extreme and presumed you had a massive budget to spend instead of just revamping a room but a girl can dream, right?!

This was a great way to spend a few evenings whilst my husband watched the football!

Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book. The rooms are very big and the decor is not suitable for average homes.

I've always loved interior design and enjoy browsing magazines and books for inspiration. I was delighted when Netgalley and publishers gave me the opportunity to read this digital ARC of Kelly Hoppen's Essential Style Solutions for Every Home. I've seen Kelly Hoppen's work featured in print and on television so I was looking forward to reading her tips.

The book is beautiful with lovely, stylish photographs and also features helpful tips. However, the photos often feature grand designs on a much larger scale than the average home, for instance a hotel perhaps or a large private home. It made hard for me to imagine how her tip would actually work in my home. It was still a charming book though and would make a thoughtful gift for the proud owner of a new home!

Kelly Hoppen is a big name in interior design and it was for her knowledge and experience that I was attracted to this book. There is certainly a lot of advice. A particular technique, using runners and banners ie strips of a material (fabric or stone, for example) , is well explained and illustrated, and not something I’ve come across before. Also I like the advice on using notebooks, grids and centrepieces.
On the downside, I found the book quite visually dull. I understand Hoppen has a signature style but I had hoped that it would either have shown a noticeable evolution or that she would have also used examples from other designers with a different style. I’ve seen many photos of showhomes that use this aesthetic of contrasting textured neutrals. Hoppen’s photos show interiors that don’t look like anyone lives in them or ever could. The shelves aren’t used for storage but for display only and while she writes about treasured possessions, these mostly look like things just bought for show – eg multiple identical white opaque jars.
People interested in interior design will find this a great reference book, but unless they are a huge fan of Hoppen’s signature style, they’ll also need to find inspiration elsewhere.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for the arc.

Kelly Hoppens Essential Style Solutions for Every Home is glossy magazine type interior design book. It is full of beautiful photographs of 'perfect' expensive homes. I enjoyed browsing through it and would recommend it as a coffee table book. Although I wouldn't say it was for every home. The pictures are mainly black, white, gray and beige and all the homes are large, expensive looking and spacious. Some good tips are included but the feel is definitely out of reach for many people.

Thank you to the author, Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was not familiar with the author's name, but after googling her name I was eager to see what she had to say about "essential style". I know I have an eclectic style sense, but I was not prepared for how underwhelming I found this book. What was presented in lots of gorgeous glossy photos was very expensive, and for the most part very boring if not stodgy style - not really something I would define as essential. Yes, there were some great tips about how to think through what your needs and wants are when you are making a home, but much of the book was so far from (my) reality that I could not relate.

Meh. The title of this book is definitely misleading. These interior design tips are not for every home, or certainly not for mine. The interiors are ovewhelmingly black, white, gray and beige. The homes are very expensive and very modern. I hated the look of all of it. There may have been good tips but it was overshadowed by the whole lifestyles of the rich and boring vibe for me, sorry.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

A good take on how an interior designer goes about the decorating process for a new space . Lots of pictures of modern decor. Lots of Black/White/Gold. Storage and Lighting possibilities too.
