Unfortunately this book was a DNF. I wanted to love it as I am mad about dogs. The main problem for me was that this book was ok with animal testing as long as it could be described in a patriotic way. However dogs can not be patriotic and I felt doing things like sending animals into space was cruel and not heroic, after all the dogs could not consent to it. For me those kinds of stories really brought down the other stories where dogs did chose to do something like save a person.

Very disappointed in the attitudes of the writers. Two stars, one for the art and one for the few stories I liked.

Although I found this a little slow at times and over-descriptive, I did really enjoy this read, what's not to love about dogs doing amazing things? I found this to be a light-hearted and heart warming read and loved learning more about "man's best friends". I would absolutely recommend this to anyone, dog owners and lovers or not.

Dog Tales is an adorable book that discusses the achievements of various dogs and the different roles they get in our societies. A fun book to pass the time or read with a young reader to learn about different breeds and how important dogs are in our lives. The illustrations are also cute and add some color to this collection. If you love dogs, then this book by Penelope Rich & Isabel Muñoz will definitely put a smile on your face!

What a fun book to showcase different breeds and their personalities and what they are good at, but fun real life examples of dogs who have done extraordinary things. As a dog lover myself, this book was fun to read and especially because of the many instances that German Shepherds showed up. In my humble opinion, they are a well loved breed that doesn't often show up in movies, tv or books, so I was excited to see so many in this book and for positive reasons.

I think this would be a great book for that kid who is still learning to tackle big books and has a love for dogs. I want to purchase a physical copy of this book for my growing collection of fun dog books!

Dog Tales is a lovely book for any dog liver young or old!
The stories contained in this book are all true stories and some may be familiar to children (and grown ups) and some are heartwarming and new to read and learn of!
Mt favourite is Hachinko (Hachi) which has always had a special place in my heart.
There are so many different types of dogs in this book, and all with unique tales of loyalty, bravery, fame and much more.
This series of books I'd amazing and well worth a read!

Dog Tales by Penelope Rich & Isabel Muñoz is a great book for kids. With short stories about real life dogs, pet lovers will adore this book. Even adults will find it interesting to know how dogs have featured in stories throughout history. Dogs are amazing! Did you know that a dog accompanied Lewis and Clark? So many interesting stories and I think kids of many ages will adore this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Dog Tales is a compilation of inspiring and joyful true stories of brave, talented and loving dogs. The beautiful illustrations make this a must for any dog lover, although beware if you are sharing these with younger readers that not every tale has a happy ending

Thanks to Netgalley and Arcturus Publishing for the ARC of this in exchange for my honest review!

A pawesome collection for dog loving readers for ages 8-12, this showcases all kinds of dogs doing all kinds of amazing things.

After enjoying Cat Tales, I knew my daughter would want to read this collection as well. I loved the art style, and the story lengths were perfect to do a few in one sitting with my 5 and 8 year olds. They really enjoyed seeing what dogs could accomplish that they weren’t aware of, such as finding their way home over long distances, skateboarding and doing parkour.

I found Dog Tales to be a heartwarming read about many extraordinary dogs of all shapes and sizes. As a dog lover myself, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the stories of many special dogs. It was a simple read and I think it would be great for middle school aged children that have an interest in dogs. I enjoyed that it included stories of both the well known famous dogs (Hachicko and Lassie) and many lesser known dogs. I think it would be a great gift to children and adult dog lovers alike!

I enjoyed learning about all the dogs that have made a contribution to "human" lives. I appreciated the general information but really enjoyed the specific stories of certain dogs. Good non-fiction book for kids. Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy. #dogtales

Dog Tales is an interesting, accurate, fun read for dog lovers in grades 3-7 and their parents. Children will be amazed by dogs who performed heroic deeds, were loyal beyond measure, and were talented movie stars or tricksters. Some of the dogs may be familiar, such as Balto, Togo, Gobi, Hachiko, and Lassie (Pal). Others will be completely new and may give children ideas for training their own dogs. The illustrations are fun and portray the unique characteristics and props of each dog. The author provides a bibliography with books and websites related to many of the dogs. As a librarian, I would have liked the author to include a map in each chapter to show where the dogs lived and a summary picture chart about all the breeds covered near the end. However, while this is not a reference book, it is an enjoyable read that will draw dog and short-story lovers. This book would be a great tool for teachers to use with reluctant readers.

Dog Tales is a really great middle grade nonfiction that tells brief stories about exceptional dogs. I liked that there were different sections of accomplishments; a section for war hero dogs, a section for loyal dogs, a section for dogs with special talents, etc. I also liked that there was a mixture of famous stories (like Hachiko and Balto) with many I'd never heard of, so even as an adult reader I learned about special dogs that I hadn't heard the stories of before. I think families who love dogs will love to read this book together. The stories are quick and to the point so they're easy for a child to follow along.

Dog Tales: True Stories of Heroic Hounds is a delightful book filled with the stories of countless waggy-tailed friends who stood out from the rest in one way or another and although tailored to children, it could be just as much enjoyed by anyone regardless of age. An exciting and engaging collection packed with 40 stories of real-life dogs, including film stars with fur, hounds that love to help, superstars of science and war heroes - these special pooches are the stars of their own stories. With incredible fur-raising facts on record-making dogs, marvellous mutts in literature, internet-sensation pups and much, much more - this beautiful book is perfect for pup fans of any age. Split into 4 chapters: Incredible Journeys; Hero Dogs; Extraordinary Dogs; and Talented Dogs, we are introduced to some of the most amazing dogs in the world in this illustrated book of mini-profiles, from the first cloned pup to canine war heroes and beyond. Incredible Journeys features dogs with incredible survival instincts and how they use their senses, intelligence and wits to take themselves where they need to be. There are accidental tourists - dogs who find themselves on epic journeys without realising it, those who travelled alongside explorers throughout history and the most heartwarming of all - the stray dogs who adopt a human and decide to go home with them.

In Hero Dogs, we explore police, military and search and rescue canines as well as those helping people with disabilities. The Extraordinary Dogs chapter explores dogs whose loyalty and devotion goes above and beyond what anyone would imagine, including dogs who sniff out disease and those partaking in research studies alongside scientists and doctors. And the Talented Dogs section looks at canines who are TV and internet stars thanks to their amazing, singing, dancing, skateboarding and surfing abilities. Alongside vivid and colourful illustrations, Dog Tales tells incredible stories such as those of Bob, the scruffy Border Collie who travelled the South Australian railroads in the 1880s; Morocho, the Dogo Argentino who saved the lives of two young members of his family from a puma; Hachiko, an Akita puppy who for almost a decade continued to go to the train station to meet his master who had passed away at work and never got to say goodbye to his ever-faithful companion; and TreT, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who become internet famous for parkour (free-running) after his Ukrainian owner realised he was every bit as agile as a cat. This is a captivating, charming and insightful book with 3-4 pages given to each story in this varied collection. A thoroughly enjoyable read for both children and adults alike. Highly recommended.
