I received an E-ARC copy of ‘Last Girl Ghosted’ by Lisa Unger, through NetGalley from HQ Stories, thank you to the publisher for accepting my request to read.

This book is set in Manhattan and mainly follows Wren Greenwood, an advice columnist publishing under the name ‘Dear Birdie’.

Her friend Jax convinces her to sign up for online dating and after matching with someone arranges to meet them in a public place. His name is Adam Harper and unexpectedly Wren falls for him straight away.

Wren feels completely comfortable with Adam and shares her dark past with him. The next day he completely disappears, no contact and all his social media and dating profiles have disappeared.

Is he ghosting her? Or has something more serious happened to Adam?

Wren goes on a mission to track him down uncovering secrets and dark home truths in both Adams and her own life.

Will she find him? What will she need to work through from her past?

I enjoyed reading this book although I did find it a little slow. It was still intriguing though and had me wanting to know how all the little pieces discovered would fit together at the end.

The story is mainly narrated by Wren going between the present and back to her childhood, but there are times that the other characters have chapters, so you also get to hear their side of the events too.

I loved Wren’s character as she is a strong female character that shows that even with disturbing events in your childhood you can recover, and she becomes a great role model helping others with their own problems.

I also like Bailey Kirk’s character; the private investigator and I would have liked to see more from him in the book. I think he would make a good main character of his own series as he cares so much about his cases.

Overall, a slow but gripping thriller, which brings through the message that whatever you go through only makes you stronger.

I struggled with this book & really had to concentrate to complete it. I thought the idea was great & I was excited to read it, but then I hit a wall. I thought it dragged and that the ending was a letdown, and the writing style did not help. This was my first Lisa Unger book, & it's not going to stop me from reading more of her books, this one was just not for me.

I am really sorry to say that I struggled with this book. I found it to be quite slow, and I just didn't click with it. Hopefully other readers will enjoy it more.

Rating: 2.5/5

As a mystery thriller this did not hit the mark for me. If this was more about Wren’s journey and growth with mystery on the side, then my expectation of the reveals would have been different. I feel “the last girl ghosted” tried to focus on both but it didn’t work for me.

What I enjoyed:
- I enjoyed the first third, I was hooked, curious and it was hard to put down!

What I didn’t enjoy:
- Although it set itself up well, it dragged on and I lost interest. There was just enough bread crumbs to keep me curious but not substantial enough to really wow me.

- All the reveals were anticlimactic. There wasn’t enough build up of clues and connection to then create a shocking revelation, it was all very straight forward.
There was so much mystery around Wren’s past. They were digging around because they had nowhere else to look. It felt really directionless and more like a general exploration of Wren’s past. After the reveal I thought ok so what. I didn’t expect to have all the answers but I definitely didn’t feel enlightened at all.

- The reveal of who Adam was and the connection (well lack thereof) between the missing girls and Wren did not wow me whatsoever. The ending was so so so cliche.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HQStories for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DNF @ 45% - 2.5 stars.

I felt like this was dragging a bit, there was a LOT of internal monologuing, and the main character sounds pretty crazy so, maybe there's a reason the guy disappeared.... Also the author uses the word "ghosted" WAY too much (especially around 35%) - no one says it that much!

When Wren Greenwood is talked into a dating app she doesn't expect to connect with anyone but Adam Harper is too good to be true. Wren as secrets she doesn't want revealed and she begins to realize so does Adam when he disappears. Wren is so confused when suddenly Adam is gone leaving a strange message behind but when a private eye turns up looking for answers to Adams last girlfriend who is also missing, she wonders what secrets he's hiding.
I was expecting an exciting, intense read and I got it. The story is so much more than I thought. It's a great read with plenty of twists and turns, not wanting to trust anyone and suspicious of everyone. Highly recommend but start reading early or you won't get any sleep.

Lisa Unger is an author that you can rely on for a twisty tale. Last Girl Ghosted is a dark and unsettling story of betrayal, secrets, family and so much more. I flew through this in a day, needing to know what was going to happen next. It will keep you guessing and needing more.

Wren Greenwood is convinced by her bestie Jax to find love online. She is skeptical but then she meets Adam and falls hard. They are happy and life is good. And then Adam disappears, he doesn't answer any calls or texts, his online presence is wiped - completely ghosted. Wren soon learns that she is not the first girl that "Adam" has done this to and her curiosity gets the better of her and she sets out to find him. Little does she know where it will take her. She will have to confront a past that she would rather forget to get answers.

Really well done and highly addictive. Thanks to HQ and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.

Wren Greenwood has a secret person, Dear Birdie, in which she accepts societies letters and listens to their problems and then provides advice. She has turned into quite the success with her advice column, podcast and potential tv deal. However, she has not had success in the love department and has turned to dating apps. Although she has met some great men she hasn’t found the perfect suitor, that is until she meets Adam.

Adam and Wren quickly fall hard for each other until one day Adam disappears. Wren is desperate to find out what happened to him but he appears to be a ghost.

This was my first book by this author and I absolutely loved it and will certainly be reading more. I was hooked pretty early on and the writing was fantastic. There was plenty of suspense to keep me reading. I liked the style of Wren narrating her story and almost writing a letter to herself which was cool and different. The twists were great and there was a lot of depth to Wrens character. I will be highly recommending this to everyone.

This is another fabulous read by Lisa Unger. The plot is contemporary, twisty, dark and unique. Her writing style is clever whilst still being easy to engage with.
I’d definitely recommend this book.

Fantastically contemporary and compellingly dark this is a definite recommend from me. It delves into the exciting but not entire truthful and somewhat mysterious world of online dating and the people who lurk on there. The idea of drawing a real connection with someone but them then disappearing completely, seemingly without a trace feels very real and out of control and the stuff of modern nightmares. There is a lot of food for thought about modern times, ethics and humanity but also a gripping mystery surrounding other damaged girls who have disappeared and what the connection might be.
This is an all round, well crafted and thought out story line with many layers of intrigue and enough psychology and food for thought to remain with me for some time to come.

I buddy read Last Girl Ghosted with my book bestie and we both flew through it! A great book to read with a friend because there's a lot to discuss as the story unfolds.

I very much enjoyed the quick chapters and dual timelines. The storyline is an intriguing one with some heavy and current topics intertwined throughout. I did not see that ending coming ...

Huge thank you to HQ Digital and Netgalley for my copy!

This book was much more than what I had anticipated. It is told over two timelines with my layers, and I found the female protagonist both an interesting and dynamic character. The writing style was at first a little confusing for me, but I quickly got a handle on it and then it flowed. As the story progressed, I was completely invested in it and I was super intrigued to see where it was going. This one is dark and twisted, just the way I like it, and it had a unique backstory too. Another beauty from Lisa Unger.

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Stories for an ARC to read and review.

I was reading thid forever. Not because would be anything wrong but I was always tired these days. Anyway it is well written, I loved the past and present alternation. Maybe a little too much for my taste of the past. But it was crocial to understand the main character Wren. She writes a coloumn where she also get letters from fans. Otherwise she is reservated and hardly someone knows whi this writer is in reality. Then someday she falls in love with a guy she meets on line. And after ashort time he disapears. All her world is upside down and she wants to know the truth. It takes of all her to discover it.
There is a lot of disturbing facts, from abuse, addiction, trauma of l kind and more, that makes it an interesting read.

Thank you Netgalley and HQ digital for this opportunity

Last Girl Ghosted was my introduction to Lisa Unger and boy what an introduction it was. I felt compelled to keep turning pages and was quite consumed by the life of Wren Greenwood. When Wren matches with a mysterious man on a dating app and agrees to meet, she is thrown head over heels into a whirlwind romance and falls hard. That is until this mystery man Adam disappears without a trace leaving Wren stood up and desperate to find him.

This is where things heat up and back stories emerge leaving traces of doubt that will have you scratching your head. A terrific thriller that will leaving you gasping as the glimpses of the past come together and make for devasting developments. Who really are Wren and Adam and can they survive this cat and mouse chase that leads to serious implications for them both? Lisa Unger fans are going to love this one!

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Stories for the early reading copy it was a quick gripping read that I devoured in mere days.

Last Girl Ghosted is the latest standalone thriller by Lisa Unger. This is only my second novel by this author.

The story revolves around Wren as she navigates the perils of online dating. She quickly falls for Adam who she meets on Torch app but after a whirlwind romance suddenly Adam ghosts her. Thats when a detective comes knocking because Adam isn't who he says he is and Wren might be in more danger than she realized.

Lisa Unger weaves a complex and deeply dark thriller that had me turning page after page. While the main character is Wren, we also get chapters which focus on Wren's childhood, Detective Bailey Kirk as well as the other women who dated Adam. The story is told in third person.

I loved the ultra modern setting based in current times. We hear about recent events such as covid, bushfire in Australia etc but they aren't focused on, its just enough to remind us that this is set in present time. I love that the story included new trends like podcasts, influencers and dating apps. Im from the generation who is used to dating this way and found it relatable and engaging.

The book was well paced. At no point did it get stale or boring, each new part was fresh and interesting. The tension builds to the thrilling conclusion. While the twists werent exactly difficult to guess, the story was unique and entertaining. The ending wrapped things up well with no cliffhanger.

Overall, this was a great, quick and fast paced thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.

I loved Lisa Unger's early novels and was intrigued by the premise of Last Girl Ghosted. Wren Greenwood is a young woman living in New York when she meets Adam on a dating app. However when Adam disappears and Wren is contacted by a private detective who believes that the disappearances of other young girls are connected to Adam she has to face her own childhood to uncover a possible link. Last Girl Ghosted starts off brilliantly, I love the way Unger writes and I found the character of Wren and the disappearance of Adam compelling. However for me the plot seemed to lose it's way around half way through and I felt that when Wren returned to her childhood home the novel became less gripping and believable. Despite this, it was an enjoyable read overall that I'd recommend to fans of this genre.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review a digital ARC.
3.5 stars rounded up.
