If this isn’t the perfect book for your lounger this summer, I’ll eat my sun hat!!

This is Lucy Clarke at her finest, and I’ve read each and every one of her books. . Her summer 2021 book The Castaways was excellent, with a welcome return for me to her roots of travel-based books - but this trumps it.

One Of The Girls is set on a fictional Greek Island; six women celebrating a hen getaway in a perfect cliffside white-washed villa. Except someone doesn’t make it home. Old secrets come forth with the loosening effects of alcohol, grudges upheld, and fireworks fly. But it’s not what you think... Lucy Clarke writes each chapter from each alternate hens’ perspective. Some know most of the others, and one knows only the bride to be. Just as you think you know where the book is going, another possibility arises.

A rip roaring yarn which kept me awake well into the night to finish it. Buy it for your holidays, or just for the back garden. Either way you’ll get the perfect escape; be right there in Greece with the azure sea twinkling in the distance - and deception, female friendship and love rolling alongside.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What could go wrong? Six women known to the bride-to-be set out on an incredible bachelorette long weekend to the idyllic Greek Island of Aegos. They are not young kids, it is a group of thirty-something women. Some are already in relationships and have children themselves. They are all in Lexi’s life, the bride to be, one way or another.

The beautiful villa they are staying in sits on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean and beach, with nothing else remotely close by. It is a perfect setting for six women to party the nights away. But not everything is at it seems. As you know, one of them will not make it through this weekend. It becomes more of who is going to do it? And to whom, rather than a, who has done it?

The story is told by each of the characters, as they reveal how they met and know Lexi. But what starts as a strong group with a purpose soon beings to crumble. There is plenty of bitchiness to make you suspect every one of them at some point in the story.

The characters are not easy to like, but that is what makes it hard to guess what is going to happen and to who! I liked how the tension built in this book, which I felt the author created perfectly. I didn’t even get close to working the ending out.

I wish to thank Net Galley and the publisher for an e-copy of this book that I have reviewed honestly.

A really solid addition to the genre; reliable, if a little predictable in places. Would recommend if you know what you want from this sort of book, as it definitely delivers that.

‘What happens on the hens weekend, stays on the hens weekend’

I was so excited to be granted early access to Lucy Clarke’s latest book, she has been a favourite author of mine since her first novel and this was all I expected from her stories.
Six women come together to celebrate Lexi’s hen’s do. A few nights on a Greek island in a secluded villa, high on a cliff top and someone dies sounds a little cliche…..Maybe it is for some but this book is all about the characters.
Told in alternative chapters of the women, not all who are known to each other is a slow burn of a story and totally character driven. The dynamics are interesting, with little snippets of information released and built upon.
Don’t expect fireworks or a fast pace, for me it was a meandering through these women’s lives, one I thoroughly enjoyed, once again with a wonderful sense of time and place….and I didn’t see what was coming.
Well worth the wait.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read.

Six young women on a hen weekend, staying in a beautiful villa on an idyllic Greek island, what could possibly go wrong?

With all the secrets, lies and in-fighting, this was never going to be a normal girlie holiday, someone was bound to end up dead!

After reading the reviews for this book I was convinced it wouldn’t be for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was an easy, light read, perfect for taking in holiday, a piece of escapism. I appreciate its all very fluffy and predictable, with more than a passing similarity to Big Little Lies, but it makes a change from all the psychological and thriller types books I usually read. Really need to get back to those now though!

I think this book deserves more than 3*, but not good enough for 4*, so my review would have been 3.5*.

Thank you NetGalley.

It is no secret I am a huge fan of Lucy Clarke, having read all of her previous books and throughly enjoyed them. 'One of the Girls' is another great read.

Lexi Lowe is getting married to Ed and she decides to have her hen party on a beautiful Greek Island, inviting five of her best friends. They arrive at a stunning, remote villa. It is revealed that one person dies on the hen but the question is who and who does the killing.

As the holiday progresses it is clear that all six have secrets to hide and gradually these begin to be revealed. It seems that any to them could be murdered and they may all be capable of killing.

Thank you, Harper Collins, Lucy Clarke and NetGalley for the ARC of 'One of the Girls'. Another brilliant read from Lucy Clarke

Lexi Lowe is getting married to Ed. So, she decides to have her hen do on the beautiful island of Aegos in Greece with five of her friends in a remote villa. But at the end of the weekend someone dies.
The six friends have all secrets to hide and as we learn about each of the characters and their circumstances are revealed, we find that they are linked in some way and that causes the death over the cliffs are into the sea.
Thank you, Harper Collins, for a copy of One of the girls. While I did like the premise of the story, I felt that the story dragged on and kept you guessing what each other secrets but not actually revealing anything until the very end. I also thought that the story jumped around too much and too quickly between each character which made me get a bit confused which character was the author writing about next. So, in that case I give these 3 stars. Great story but not executed very well.

I didn't feel this was one of Lucy Clarke's best books but there will be many of my customers who will enjoy this psychological thriller set in the Greek islands and featuring a group of women on a hen party. The story is told from the different points of view and narratives from the various characters which maintains the interest.

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I think I am possibly the last person on the planet to read a @lucyclarke_author book… Lucy wrote You Let Me In and The Castaways which I’ve had on my TBR for one too many months and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things.
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I received the ARC of #OneOfTheGirls I was immediately drawn in by the tag line:
One of us is a liar.

One of us is a stranger.

One of us is a cheater.
But who could be a killer?
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who wouldn’t be drawn in by that? I certainly was!
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the past year, I’ve read quite a few holiday based thrillers including Andi Bartz's #WeWereNeverHere (which I thoroughly enjoyed) so I was so pleasantly surprised that Lucy’s take on a holiday-gone-wrong theme. I would also go as far as saying it might be one of my favourites.
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One thing Lucy does well is character development, considering there were so many key characters in this book, she effectively developed each character’s backstory perfectly. Seeing how they all interact, their view on the friendships and their secrets gave such a relatable and realistic view of all the girls.
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was gripped from the first chapter and the whole way through I was never bored, I was kept constantly guessing on what direction it was going in right until the final portion of the book. How the book ended was the perfect conclusion after the high climax of the book, the final portion was well-paced and all loose ends were tied up.

A novel set on a sunny Greek island is off to a very good start at the moment. One of the Girls is a good read, full of surprising twists. I enjoy the format with short chapters and different points of view. I recommend it for giving you that holiday feeling but be careful who you invite to join you!

I loved One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke and found it impossible to put down. Set in a beautiful Greek island, six girls have come together to celebrate Lexi’s hen weekend. They’re only there for a few days but they pack in a whole load of drama. There’s sunset swims, plenty of cocktails and even murder as it seems each of the women has a secret. A captivating read that will keep you entertained to the end. I would rate this 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and the author for the chance to review.

You instantly fall in love with the surroundings, wishing you too could be in beautiful, sunny Greece. This summery book is the perfect read to while away the cold days of winter. I loved all of the friends and found myself quickly reading through the pages as I desperately wanted to know more about the girls and the secrets they were holding. I also wondered who the narrator was that you catch glimpses of between chapters and what had gone so wrong that weekend.

An intoxicating Grecian thriller.

This is the fourth Lucy Clarke novel I've read and although I loved Last Seen and You Let Me In I was hugely disappointed by her last novel The Castaways. I had also resolved not to read any more psychological thrillers set on islands after recently reading many disappointing and unoriginal novels in this genre. However, I am so pleased I had the opportunity to read One of the Girls as I found it to be a beautifully written and plotted novel that I could not put down. It's set during a hen weekend on a Greek island when Lexi, Bella, Robyn, Fen, Eleanor and Ana get together to celebrate Lexi's forthcoming wedding to Ed. The author portrays the toxicity and complications of female friendships so well and I loved the characterisations which brought a real depth to most of the women (I would've loved a little more insight into Fen). All of the women have their own secrets or issues to deal with over the course of the few days they spend on the island. There is an underlying tension from the beginning and the reader is aware that the weekend will end in tragedy. However, Clarke does not overdo this and the ending was completely unexpected for me. Highly recommended. Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

a perfect summer women's fiction, set in a villa on the coast of Greece this book has sun sea and secrets. The plot was interesting throughout and was a fast paced thriller with short chapters. i really loved how in depth each character was written and felt totally transported to Greece with the beautifully descriptive writing.

⭐️⭐️ 2 disappointing stars.

I’ve read a few by this author and she can be a bit hit and miss. This one is a miss.

It’s like Big Little Lies but in Greece but with less suspense and unlikeable characters.

Who goes to Greece for a beach weekend and takes hiking boots?! How many coincidences link these women?! Eleanor and Bella - really?! And Fen’s big reveal about Nico - really? That has haunted her and scarred her for the last 20 years?

Sorry, but it’s a no from me

Author Lucy Clarke is such a huge favourite of mine. I have read all of her books and I simply adore them.
I was delighted to receive a copy of One for The Girls.
In this story we meet Lexi, Fen, Bella, Eleanor, Robyn & Ana. The girls head off on a hen weekend to Greece full of the joys of spring. For me I could feel the tension between the girls immediately and I couldn't help shouting at the book, go home, you don't belong together.
Tempers flare inevitably and there is so much jealousy.
Each of the girls are hiding their own issues and we see them all come to the forefront over the weekend.
Lexi (the bride to be) is to me a little fragile. Her best friend Bella is over protective and simply just too much. At times I really felt she thought she owned Lexi. She craved Lexi's attention and got most upset if Lexi's attention was elsewhere.
Fen is Bella's partner and you could see their relationship was heading for disaster. Bella is all about herself and couldn't see the pain on Fen's face being back in her aunt's house.
Eleanor is Lexi's fiancé Ed's sister. Having suffered her own loss recently, she is fragile and needs a friend more than she realises.
Robyn is also a childhood friend of Lexi's but Bella's constant demand for attention puts Robyn firmly in the back seat.
Ana is the outsider. A friend of Lexi's through her yoga, she is a relaxed and calm person in her life.
But what happens over the weekend. All girls are keeping secrets from each other and they are sure to tumbling out before the holiday is over.
A brilliant read, well worth your time

Entertaining and immersive, I loved this novel from the start. Each character is beautifully drawn and the setting is at once soothing and seductive but with a hint of menace. A glorious holiday read or an escape from the vagaries of winter weather, this is another engaging page-turner from the wonderful Lucy Clarke.

Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for this eARC of One of the Girls

One of these girls is a thriller set in Greece. It follows six woman on a hen party.
Each character narrators the novel so you get all of the characters pov.
Each woman is hiding a secret and in true thriller fashion we have a death before the weekend has finished.
I thought the way that the women’s stories all connected in the end was very clever, however I didn’t feel a connection for any of the characters, so it felt the story lacked an emotional depth. For me the story is slow paced and took a while to get to the point.
I did think the writing was good and the premise was there for potential.
if you like slow burns, exotic locales and quick reads, then this would be a good one to try.
