This book was everything I hoped it would it be.
I was hooked quickly and completely unwilling to put this down. I devoured this book in just one sitting. I have no regrets and can’t wait to read more by this author.

I really loved this thriller read! Things were tense and I was unsure where it was going but I enjoyed the multiple twists along the way!

I really wanted to enjoy this book but I felt that for 80% of it I was waiting for something to happen and when it did it was a bit like a damp firework. This book for me isn't really a thriller, it's more of a domestic drama.

Gripping revenge thriller, told across multiple timelines and voices.

Lux and Nico came to Hawaii for the trip of a lifetime. Damage to their boat means they end up staying in the one place for much longer than expected. Lux finds not very pleasant work as a hotel maid to try to save up for the repairs, but Nico doesn't seem to be doing much, and even more annoyingly, he could easily ask his wealthy parents for some money but he refuses.

When two tourists approach Nico to take them on a tour to a nearby island with a chequered history, Lux suggests that if they pay for the repairs to the boat they can spend some time holidaying on the island.

Their plans to live on the remote island meet a snag when they discover another couple there, but it turns out that they all get on well. That is, until another man arrives who seems all too happy to help himself to their provisions, several tensions emerge, tempers start to fray and passions are surrendered to.

Whilst this drama is unfolding, we learn through flashbacks the real stories behind the eclectic group of people thrown together on the island.

When you want a quick fast paced thriller to read, pick this!
The story of Lux and Nico, embarking on an adventure. A story filled with sun, sea, sand and deception.
Off to add Rachel Hawkins other books!

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read books for honest reviews. This was exactly what I needed, without realising at the time.

I've not stayed up late to finish a book in a very long time!

and her boyfriend Nico are hired to sail two college friends Brittany and Amma to the remote Meroe Island where a ship sunk in the 1800's.

The two friends are seeking peace and tranquility, but to their dismay there is a couple already there, the glamorous Jake and Eliza who are very welcoming.

From the start for me alarm bells were ringing. I could sense something bad was going to happen but I was not sure what.

The suspense kept me reading until late into the night.

I will definitely be looking out for more of Rachel Hawkins books

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks netgallery for the early review book.

I enjoyed the story line of lux and nico but found it slow in the beginning but it picked up pace and there was some twist.

A very nice book by Rachel Hawkins. I’ve never read a book by this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story and the characters.

A fast paced, escapist, dark thriller set on a remote Pacific island. I raced through it and enjoyed the twist at the end.

Reckless Girls is a contemporary thriller following Lux and her boyfriend Nico when they are offered a lot of money to transport two young women to a remote island. Of course the island seems idyllic, but it has a dark past.
When the group arrive they realise they’re not alone. A rather hedonistic vibe is created initially, but it doesn’t take long for real life to invade. Liz soon comes to realise that nobody is what they claim to be, and we watch as she tries to work out how to survive this trip.
At times it felt like reading The Beach and I felt that the ‘dark secrets’ being kept by key characters were rather obvious. It was a fast-paced read and I can’t help but feel the ending was rather rushed.

This one was a page-turner, rollercoaster ride! I absolutely loved it.
The creepy setting, mysterious characters, had me turning pages late into the night! Some of the twists were genius and difficult to guess. Loved this book!

I love Rachel Hawkins and I can't wait to read more by her.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me an ARC in exchange of my opinion

This is the first book I've read by Rachel Hawkins and based on this experience it certainly won't be the last either.

From the first few pages I was hooked, and just couldn't get enough of this story.

From the far flung exotic starting location complete with some humour to the deserted island where most of the story in the present takes place, this was just my sort of a book all over.

I loved the various chapters focusing on other characters, especially in what led them to be on the island, and there is plenty of action and adventure throughout,

I devoured this book in a few short hours while on holiday, which is perfect time to read it, as its escapist, but also quite dark in places, and just generally had holiday read vibes about it.

I loved every second I spent between the pages, but I won't be adding Melrose Island to my list of must visit places anytime soon, after the events that occur there during this novel!

Thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A terrific, escapist beach read. Crime on a deserted island, luxury holidays gone very wrong. All the makings of a fast paced thriller and the book truly holds up to the promise.

This was an enjoyable read although not as much of a page turner as I found The Wife Upstairs to be. I'd class it more of a beach read than a thriller, although it did have a twist at the end and was a quick and easy read.

Thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for the review copy.

The yellow and pink cover is heaven and I'm, not sure a fan of the typical blue cover. This book was fun and a good time, but it was also a bit silly. I liked the idea of the characters being trapped and I enjoyed the way things connected together. It was a good time and I will read more from this author.

I received a free digital copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley.

I was eager to get to reading this book after absolutely loving the authors previous book The Wife Upstairs. I originally felt disappointed in this book as I didn't find it as easy to get into as the previous title. It felt like something was missing in the initial setup for this story. I persevered though and I am incredibly glad that I did. Once I got into this book I went on one heck of a journey. Again I would emphasise that I found this one to be more of a slow burn. As things hot up though it becomes a real page turner. The intrigue and fear factors increase dramatically towards the end. Meanwhile I could never have predicted just how dark this book would get. This is a slow burn, dark and twisty ride that I would highly recommend picking up.

This book follows Lux and her boyfriend Nico are tempted to an island by two new friends - a secluded place with rumors of cannibalism and murder. Upon their arrival the four of them are surprised to find a couple already there. Thats about as thrilling as it gets? I really was excited get into this one as I had heard great things, but unfortunately it wasn't for me.

I was kind of confused by the marketing of this book, it's promoted as a 'gothic' psychological thriller, 'gothic' no, 'psychological' no but it was a VERY light thriller. If you are looking for a casual beach read then this could be a good option for you.

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins was a rather bizarre read. I adored her previous book but this one just fell flat. Unlikable characters and a twisted storyline left me wondering what on earth I just read!

Lux and her boyfriend are working in Hawaii to fix their boat to continue travelling when they are hired by two young women to sail them to a deserted island; Meroe island has a dark past and seems inhospitable. Once they arrive they find that they aren't the first travellers to choose the island but as the days draw on the island's dark past seems to taint the the present; will everyone survive the experience.

I went into this book with expectations of what the story would be like but I was surprised (in a good way) that there were more layers to the various interlocking stories that were revealed and that Meroe island island was a flashpoint for this to happen. I really enjoyed the flashbacks so that each characters past could be seen and this made the return to the present storyline more tense; a really gripping read.
