At first I found the main character, Lucy, very annoying as she was making such bad choices in her life, but her character arc is good and she is, after all, human. Perhaps I was feeling uncomfortable having made bad choices of my own in the past! The setting of the story moves from the city to the middle of nowhere in the snow, and the characters in each place are different. When Lucy is in Finland, she starts to take a good look at her life, and I found myself rooting for her all the way. Great ending as well!

This book started off a bit rocky for me (a bit of that Sophie Kinsella type heroine whose decisions are difficult to relate to) but once it got moving, I did really enjoy it. The descriptions of the scenery felt like such a nice winter escape!! And the cover is so gorgeous. Once all the characters were in place and the plot moved along, I found it hard to put this one down. Definitely recommend for a winter romance!

Meet Me Under the Northern Lights was my first deep dive into a Finnish winter. I was seduced on every page by the brooding Tommi, the Wild Zone Arctic Circle experience but most of all I fell in love with Lucy Fairweather our protagonist. A radio DJ who reminded me of the 90s ladettes,, Lucy has been totally stabbed in the back by misogynistic work colleagues. A heavily edited video of her goes viral and her bestie at the station offers her the chance to hide out for a while, helping her Finnish brother in law at his Arctic authentic holiday retreat in Finland! Lucy is hilariously ill equipped to deal with the Arctic temperatures, the darkness, the lack of booze … and it’s Lucy coming to terms with her dependence on alcohol that makes this read so much more satisfying than your big standard cute Christmas read. It is that don’t get me wrong-but it’s so so much more. My heart melted as Lucy helped out at the local radio station and discovered all men aren’t like those gits she worked with. A perfect wintry read.

I didn't finish this one but I thought it was a cute concept in the beginning of the radio show. I however got very bored with the characters and just didn't find it interesting. I'm one of the few probably but just didn't like this one.

Meet Me Under the Northern Lights is a romantic love story set in Finland but is one that deals with heavier issues in an excellent, real way.

This is my first book by Emily Kerr and I was definitely impressed. The character development was wonderful and her descriptions were enchanting (sighs, Finland).

I won't hesitate to pick up another book by Emily Kerr!

Successful DJ, Lucy, runs to Finland to escape online trolls following an inaccurate video suggesting she has had an affair with a co -worker. Here she has to confront the effects of her past and her resulting behavioural problems. Is this the time to grow up? A good book to curl up with in the warm, realistic characters and storyline.

I love the drama that this book starts with and the determination Lucy has to continue.

I really liked the descriptions of situations and people in this book. This book has a bit of everything, it's humourous, emotional, romantic, exciting, though provoking and a great bit of girl power.

I really loved the air punch moment near the end of the book, if you read it you'll know what I mean.

Brilliant books and I will be recommending to all.

Romance in a winter wonderland

There is something about a romance that grows out of the worse possible moments in a character’s life that I enjoy. That ache that you get in the pit of your stomach, when you feel their shame, guilt and downfall of grace is almost crippling, but as the reader we are safe in the knowledge that there is always hope.

Hope for Lucy comes in the form of Tommi, gruff but sexy, Lucy soon learns that she is going to have to pull out all the stops to earn his trust. Under the northern lights, in freezing temperatures and trust issues of her own, Lucy shows that she won’t cower to threats.
I really enjoyed this story, with its colourful case of characters, who take Lucy in, and help her adjust to the way of life in the artic and as with all good stories, fun and games ensue.

My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher One More Chapter and the author Emily Kerr for allowing me to read and review the 5-star rated Meet Me Under the Northern Lights.
My apologies for the delay in reviewing this book due to personal reasons.

This was a new author to me and will definitely look out for more from this author. This was a romantic read but also a
Journey
of self discovery and finding happiness and contentment within yourself again this was a new author to me and will definitely look out for more from this author. This book has further sparked my interest of wanting to go and see the northern lights and visit Finland after reading a few books recently within this setting.

This is such a gorgeous book with the most wonderful setting, it was really a very special book to read during the festive season.
This is the story of Lucy,a radio host who has a video of herself go viral, unfortunately the video is cleverly edited and Lucy knows she must get away quickly!

There is nowhere more remote or far away than the arctic circle! She stays with the gorgeous Tommi and in exchange for room and board she agrees to help out with the guests. She soon finds that life here isn't the same as home and she isn't prepared for the extreme cold temperatures and the work isn't as simple as she had thought.

Such a heartwarming and gorgeous story that stayed with me well after finishing. Highly recommend!

Meet Me Under the Northern Lights by Emily Kerr

Lucy is a hot mess

She is a radio broadcaster on a morning show

Then she's not

She has a video that goes viral - seems like a set up, but who would do that to her?

She heads to the Arctic Circle on the recommendation of her friend Skye, to work with her brother Tommi at a resort, Wild Zone

Tommi owns the resort and Lucy agrees to help out in exchange from her stay

Tommi is a royal *&^$ (you know what) - he's so hard on Lucy when she gets there, but eventually that changes

They end up having some relations

Then, the producer and other talent from her morning show head up to Wild Zone

After careful investigation, she's realized that she was set up for that video and she ends up getting the 2 of them fired for doing that to her

She's allowed to work on her show again, with her BFF Skye.

However, she doesn't want to leave Wild Zone and Tommi, luckily the station allows her to broadcast from there!

All the warm and fuzzies!

I received this book in exchange for a review from NetGalley.

Meet Me Under the Northern Lights was a cute, light-hearted story that is a perfect winter read.

Lucy is a very flawed protagonist, but that's what makes her so enjoyable. It was refreshing to find a story of a woman who definitely does not have it all together, despite being ambitious and well-intentioned.

This also covered some important topics, including cyber-bullying and alcoholism. I do think the author brushed over the impacts of these a bit too lightly and quickly, but I don't think they're addressed enough in media.

While this book contains romance, it's not really a romantic story, so much as it's a story of a woman's journey in finding herself. In fact, I actually felt the chemistry between the romantic leads was lacking quite a bit, and wish they had remained friends.

Thank you to Net Galley, One More Chapter, and Emily Kerr for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book that I have read of Emily Kerr's but I was very impressed. I expected a Christmassy romance book but the main storyline tackled the hard hitting issues of trauma, loss, alcohol misuse and online bullying and did so very well indeed.

The characters were very well written and there were some that were very easy to dislike and others that left me on the fence about until the plot developed further.

Overall it was a great read, and I will definitely be reading more of Kerr's work in the future.

This is a book to read when you want a bit of romance and bit of light-hearted reading and the beauty of a cold yet lovely place and surrounds (Finland).

I found this book an easy read yet it had enough oomph in it to keep me reading (as I am not much of a romance reader). The story was interesting and had a few of life's up and downs included in it so it wasn't over the top. It dealt with issues that are here in everyday life without being depressing and overly sad.

An easy to read (in the fact that you can follow the story and understand what is happening) good story with a bit of everything added to make you want to keep reading..

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC. I thought that overall it was a sweet wintry romance. It was cute, but I didn't really get very attached to the characters. I wish I would have been more attached from the start.

I choose to read this book as although I am not a well travelled person, I have spent a few weeks in Finland, including one above the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. It was lovely to hear about that area of the world as it's a more unusual setting for a novel. However I could not get on with Lucy, our heroine. Thankfully although she annoyed me when she was living in London, her character did improve and deepen as the story progressed. Overall this is a reasonable winter read.

Based on the cover and the blurb I was definitely expecting a rom com, following the generic recipe for the genre: Protagonist escapes to a foreign land to find herself where she meets a brooding stranger she falls in love with.

And that is, in fact, what the book serves… well, kind of. I found there was a bit more substance to it than I had expected. The protagonist is battling a lot of personal demons (content warnings for the book at the end of the review) and that plot arch takes up a lot more space than the romance does.

The love story itself is very PG-rated, no saucy details, which actually works well with the book. The main plot line really focuses on the protagonist’s journey of self-discovery and healing, which is well established by the time we even meet the love interest. The book was an entertaining read throughout and the pacing felt very good for me. Moreover, the love for Finland from an outsider’s perspective really shone through and I enjoyed getting to know the country through the protagonist’s (and presumably also the author’s) foreigner’s-point-of-view. Reading during times where travel is so restricted it really made me long to see the magical variety our beautiful planet has to offer with my own eyes again. Alas, I shall be patient.

There are only two points of critique I can offer:

1) The minor characters, including friends, the love interest and “antagonists” all remain one-dimensional. I really would have loved more character development here. The protagonist was better done in my opinion. I did not always find her likable, but that is actually OK – perhaps even supposed to be that way. She is flawed and she makes mistakes/misjudges situations. However, the supporting characters are all either pretty perfect or solely flawed.

2) The resolution of the protagonist’s problems is a little too easy. She is essentially an addict that goes into voluntary recovery, and it all seems a little too easy for her to stick with the plan.

Content warnings for the books: loss of a family member, alcoholism, addiction, bullying (online and in the workplace), gaslighting

This is a story about leaving to find yourself… in Finland!

I had wanted a light romcom, and didn’t really find it here; however, this was still a nice story.. it just had more serious themes than I was anticipating. That being said, I loved the setting!
