A short but sweet (and powerful) collection of stories that shine a spotlight on women in different stages of their lives. The stories are emotional yet compelling.

I would be interested to read a novel by Saba Sams as I enjoyed their writing and feel like a couple of the stories had potential to be expanded and become even more.

Stunning prose that will resonate with so many women - I absolutely loved it. It explores on so many subjects of modern life - the desire for freedom, for expressing yourself, the desire to see and be seen. Will 100% recommend to it to everyone.

Very rarely does a book evoke such fond memories from my girlhood in noughties Britain.

This collection of ten short stories is an ode to female desire and all its beauty and chaos, played out in tween summer holidays with a sister’s friend to university binge drinking to the tender yet real aftermath of an abortion. Each young woman is carved as a force to be reckoned with, longing for some semblance of freedom in a world that too often restricts.

I really enjoyed reading Send Nudes - its title being a phrase many of us recognise to induce eye-rolls yet an opportunity for us to reclaim some power. Like these stories, Sams gives each of her female characters the gusto and thrill to make their own impact and freedom within the confines of a woman’s world.

raw, witty and descriptive, the short stories contained in this book, will sometimes leave you laughing, relating with the character, crying, or even all three.

I loved the story between Lara and Meg, navigating friendships with no boundaries in that way can be very hard for some people. Send nudes was perhaps my favourite.

If you're looking for stories that discuss womanhood, childhood, adulthood, and troubles that go on, this book will definitely do it for you.

This is my second time reading a book with perpetua typeface, and I have to say its growing on me! It feels definitely more personal, almost a comfort.

So raw, very well done and incisive writing. The prose was whip sharp and well tuned.
I would recommend this book.

I love this book. It was smart, funny, and full of rich, vivid characters that stayed with me long after I had finished reading it. I would highly recommend it and, indeed, will be buying it for all of my friends as soon as I can.

Send Nudes is a sharp, witty and frequently heartbreaking read.

Each story's protagonist had such a clear voice and sense of character, and I found myself wishing the best for all of them - even the characters I found frustrating.

I found it hard to tear myself away at times and I cannot wait to read more from Sams. She is definitely a writer to watch.

This is a beautiful collection of short stories, a genre I’ve read a lot of from the US this year but not many from the UK. I particularly enjoyed Flying Kite, Today’s Square and Blue4Eva, coincidentally all of which are told from the perspective of pre-teen girls. Lots of enjoy in all of these stories though and there wasn’t a bad one in the bunch - highly recommended and thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This is a delightful short story collection around the themes of growing up, sex & dating, and femininity. I enjoyed some of them more than others, but that always happens with these type of collections. Overall they shared the same tone - a few of them were in such a distinct similar voice that it made me think that they were recurring characters, not sure if that was intentional though. All in all, a promising collection.

I will admit that Send Nudes by Saba Sams was not the book I was expecting it to be. I had anticipated it being a novel where the different girls’ and women’s lives somehow were woven together within one story, when in fact it is a series of 10 short stories.

Before going any further I should point out the trigger warnings of miscarriage, abortion, sexual assault and drug misuse within these stories.

Send Nudes stories vary in length but each focuses on either girls or women at different stages of life. The central themes across these stories are of friendship, family and sexual attraction. Stylistically the stories differ as well, which is refreshing, further separating them from one another. Most of them start you right in the centre of the action, as you would perhaps expect. Many of them end rather abruptly, almost as though they’re leaving you on a cliffhanger desperate to know more - I found this especially with The Mothers and the Girls.

Sams deftly drawers you into each individuals life and her exploration of them is filled with power and great empathy. You really do feel for the individuals in these stories, whether that is a deep sense of sympathy or indeed frustration that they are in the situation they’re in (here’s looking at you Meg in Snakebite.)

My favourite stories were Flying Kite and Today’s Square, each of which dealt with family relationships. The latter of which was as beautiful as it was devastating. Overnight also needs special mention. It is one of the shorter stories but is so very powerful and desperately sad.

This was a compelling and quick read and one that showcases Sams razor sharp skills, keen observations and empathetic prose.

When I saw this title on netgalley I thought it might be a good read. I requested to read it and was one of the chosen ones.

Well...I almost stopped reading the second I opened the book. None of the I's were capitalized. A small thing really, but it annoyed me. I'm sure this will be edited by the time it goes to sale, but it put my score down by probably a star.

For me, this book just didn't do it. I read the description and it looked interesting, but there are so many stories in here and none of them seem to have endings , and a few barely has beginnings. It jumps from one story to the next. If you start to get interested, it's about to end so there's no point in bothering to be honest.

I was semi interested about the story of Meg and Lara, it is as actually the longest I read (I did not get through this whole book, I read the Send Nudes chapter then had to stop). I wanted to see Meg stand up for herself, but nope, she just keeps this super unhealthy obsession with an undeserving brat.

I would have given this one star, but I was being kind.

Sorry

This is a collection of evocative compelling short stories. The characters have vivid internal lives, as they struggle to stay afloat in sometimes cruel worlds. I admired the writing a great deal - it squarely put me in the shoes of listless white girls coming of age.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.

"It's fair to say that some adjectives sound better than others. Using the better adjectives is only a litle white lie, like wearing shapewear, or having lowlights put in at the salon".

Trigger warning: abortion, miscarriage

Sams delivered a short but very sweet collection of fictional tales about different women at different stages in their lives. It was so simple, so normal and yet so enthralling to take a back seat and observe their lives and thoughts so closely.

Each tale left me wanting more, whilst a couple ended with literal goosebumps. I enjoyed the brutal honesty of the current sorry state of dating - something which the book centres around. To quote the view of one of the protagonists, "Two people don't sit on either side of a screen rather than either side of a coffee table if they're going to be completely honest about themselves". There were no thrills attached and the book does what it says on the label.

Thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you NetGalley for the Send Nudes Arc.

I think the sign of a good short story collection is when you miss the characters after you've finished reading it and that has happened for me with Send Nudes by Saba Sams.

Arresting. Compelling. Must read.

There's a sharp revelation of emotion with each story, leaving you feeling like you've just tipped over the edge on a rollercoaster, repeatedly. Fantastic writing.

I began this book with a completely different expectation of what it would be about.........I hadn’t realised that this was a lot of short stories based on all sorts of genres. I expected a fictional story intertwined but instead these are all stand alone. I did still enjoy it and found it was a quick read based on the shortness of each chapter. Some stories were definitely better than others but overall it was an enjoyable read.
