Boy and dog have a special bond and don’t ever want to apart from each other. The time comes for the boy to start school and it’s tough because it means leaving the dog behind. They literally do everything together. All is not lost though as slowly but surely they both find ways of coping and getting used to a new routine. By the end, the boy and his dog discover having to part for awhile isn’t all bad. The loyalty remains and they will reunite after school.

It’s a sweet story with fun illustrations and one that can be red for the joy of it and also to prepare for starting school, either in a new term, after a holiday or if you suddenly get a new pet and child and pet have bonded.

I had a dog when I was little, so I enjoyed reading this book. I like the illustrations and the colour palette. The characters are adorable, and the children can learn a lot from the story. Excellent work!

This is a lovely book with amazing illustrations. The colourful images and fun images keep young readers engaged

It would be perfect for anyone going into primary school. It kept my 4 year old engaged and he thought it was funny and sad when they missed each other.

I love this book, easy and well written. It's a lovely companion for children who can read or simply enjoy watching (beautiful) illustrations. The special bond between a child and his dog in the day life will entertain children from every country. I recommend this book to adults as well, it's a bit moving and will set back at nice moments of chilhood.

A wholesome and sweet look at how children and their furry friends cope with change. This was a fantastic book and the theme so well portrayed. Boy and Dog have been inseparable since Boy came home from the hospital, but now Boy must go to school. Neither likes the change and both find it hard to be apart, but slowly they find ways of getting use to the new routine and finding ways to be together apart.
I felt this was a powerful and simple way to help a child handle unavoidable change, also to show them that though it may be scary or make them sad, it is all ok in the end.
The illustrations and style were accessible, bright and fun. A welcome addition to any library.

A delightful story about a boy and his dog. This tale raises issues about starting school and feeling worried in a child friendly manner. The dog is a source of comfort on the boy’s return. Gorgeous illustrations. Perfect for a class topic on pets and starting school.

The ILLUSTRATIONS caught my eye immediately!

The book is BEAUTIFULLY illustrated by ARTHUR LIN. The story, written by LYNN PLOURDE, like most children's books, is a teaching tool for lessons in life, but unfortunately the writing did not catch my attention. I do not like reviewing negativity but the illustrations are what held my attention. Age group - pre-school children.

I would buy this book for the illustrations alone.

I give a 3 star rating

Lovely little story about a boy and his best friend, who happened to be a dog!
They did everything together, and when the little boy started school they were both very sad.
But they found a way to cope, so that when school is finished, their time together is extra special.
Great book, and fab illustrations

Best Buddies is such a beautiful story of a boy and his best friend - his dog and how they overcame being apart when the little boy started school. It explains to children about the different emotions they may feel and how to deal with them. The illustrations are also beautifully drawn. This book was loved by both myself and my four year old son.

Thank you to NetGalley and Raintree Publishers for my ARC.
