A very chatty introduction to the Star Wars rebels, from who they are and what they want to some of the key events they've been at. Starting way outside the main nine films (sorry, pedants) the whole thing, as far as it conveys the story of the franchise, begins with the Ghost crew and the Battle of Lothal. But conveying a recap of the entire universe – or even the original trilogy – is not the remit here, because it wants to drip-feed us some knowledge and connection to anything with the Star Wars name, all through an (allegedly) hilarious approach. And it certainly has that – making Jeffrey Brown books look heavy, this really is a splurge of line drawings, speech balloons, quippy bits, CHANGES in fOnT for any reason possible, and so on. Bit by bit it can manage to look a bit more encyclopaedic – the droids, the vehicles, some of the main characters and so on all get their time in the sun – but this is intended to be as hyperactive as a pod racer leaving Jar Jar Binks to shrivel up and die. It won't be universally panned like he was, but it certainly is an acquired taste.
