This was such a brilliant book and can't wait for the next one! It had me gripped from start to finish and didn't want to put it down! I’m a huge Martina Cole fan and found Emma Tallon to have the same kind of writing style whilst still keeping her own voice, which I very much appreciated!

Can’t wait for the next one!!

Scarlet Drew is settling into the family world of gangland crime. But a sexual assault leads to plans for revenge that go beyond anything the family or gang have ever attempted before...
Her Rival is the sequel to Her Revenge and we catch up with the intrigues and escapades of the notorious Drew family. I think there is enough backstory included that it would not matter if you can't wait to read this one although there are spoilers about events in the last book.
Scarlet is a determined woman, still adjusting to life without her dad and anxious to make a name for herself as well as prove herself to her aunt who now head the family. Her experience at the hands of a drunken toff leads to a huge heist plotline which I loved.
Once again, Lily Drew stole the show for me. A hard outer shell to protect her reputation and family but fear for her family makes her vulnerable. This is evident in her romantic relationship with Ray and tense relationship with her drug addict daughter Ruby.
There is violence but it is not extreme considering the genre. The plot moves relentlessly fast again and I was completely swept up in the lives of the Drew family members.
Her Rival is an excellently engaging and gripping family gangland saga. I am such a fan of this genre and have previously reviewed other Emma Tallon books

This is the second book in the series, and I enjoyed every word of it. Emma is becoming to be on the same level as other prolific and talented authors like Kimberley Chambers and Martina Cole. Can't wait to get my teeth into the third book. Highly recommended.

Another absolutely stunning read by Emma Tallon. Gripping from beginning to end, and the end definitely left me wanting more, so I can't wait to read the next one! Once again, a vibrant and lively cast of characters that take you into a dirty and dangerous underworld but still manage to give a humane and sometimes sympathetic feeling to the book.
Filled with grit, intrigue and unexpected twists and turns, I have absolutely adored this book once again and I am officially a huge fan of Emma Tallon!

Here's an author that I can always recommend! Especially as she is one of my favourite authors!
Emma's books just get better and better. So when her latest book Her Rival by Emma Tallon came available.......I had to change my plans for that day and put everything on hold. However, one thing I will say "Don't start reading her books just before you go to bed as you will not want to put your kindle down!"

Her Rival is the second book in the notorious Drew series, and was another superb book and I was hooked from the very first few pages till the end.

Scarlet Drew is new to the family business and to London’s criminal underworld , However, she is settling well. One thing Scarlet wants to do, is start her own new venture; a hair salon. Scarlet has no idea how to style hair etc and hires her best friend to manage and to be the main stylist. Scarlet want to help her Aunt Lilly to launder money for the family business.
Ray an old friend of the family, grabs Ruby.........who is Lilly's daughter from the streets, and he forces her to get clean from drugs before it's too late for her. Ruby gets clean and then joins Scarlet's salon. She has one thing on her mind and that she is determined to put her cousin Scarlet in her place.

WoW what a book.....especially as it has a OMG ending!!! Emma this book was superb and I highly recommend it

Big 5 Stars from me!

Big Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for a free electronic review copy.

In the second novel of her new series, Her Rival, bestselling author Emma Tallon outdoes herself with a edge-of-your-seat thriller. Scarlet and her Aunt Lily attend a high-society black tie dinner where they are invited to an after party at the home of a rich business owner. Scarlet ends up being sexually assaulted by the drunken man and decides to steal his most valuable treasure. Unfortunately, there is a witness, and Scarlet is not only in danger, but also puts her entire family and their underworld business in danger. Although Scarlet is smart and well-suited to work with her Aunt Lily in their crime family business, she still has much to learn. What she does may be the end of her.

Tallon is very skilled in developing her characters and readers will have a clear picture of them in their minds as the novel progresses. Although Scarlet is no saint, she is likeable and readers will rally around her and want her to win out in the end. Aunt Lily, the head of their crime family, is smart, shrewd, and perceptive, and is trying to pass on those traits to young Scarlet. Hopefully Scarlet will pick up on what it takes to partner with her Aunt, and things will turn out well. As the suspense builds, the novel will be difficult to put down and as the dénouement comes at the very end, readers will be shocked.

Tallon is, as usual, an excellent storyteller and the novel is easy to read and will keep the interest of anyone whether they have read her previous novels or not. This novel is good enough, however, that readers will definitely want to pick up the previous novel in the series. The London underworld is a fascinating place, and since most readers aren’t actually familiar with it, are spellbound as the story unfolds. Hopefully there will be more novels, because this novel is excellent.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Set on the same mean streets as her bestselling Tyler Family series. Which is one of my favorite series that never wanted to end.
Now I have this series which is just as good. Another crime family series. This is the 2nd book and took off from where Her Revenge ended.
Scarlet is at a party when a circumstance landed in her lap and she decided revenge is oh so sweet. With her family's support they go after something bigger than they have ever dealt with. Hoping they haven't gotten in over their heads.
Meanwhile the black sheep of the family, Ruby, is also looking into something. Something in which Scarlett could get hurt emotionally.
This is a page turner and one I could not put down. The ending though leaves you with your mouth hanging open.
I will be looking towards the next book in the series.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the book to review.

Mystery & Thrillers

I am reviewing a copy of Her Rival through Bookoture and Netgalley:

Let me start of by saying due to subject matter and strong language this book is not recommended for younger readers, now to get into the book:

Scarlet Drew is a new part of the Criminal Underworld in London but she’s determined to make a name for herself as joint head of the family firm alongside her aunt Lily. But after she finds herself alone with a rival business owner at a black-tie event, she isn’t prepared for what happens next.

She’s determined not to let the drunken lech get away with his crime, she’s determined to get her revenge she’s going to steal his most valuable asset and put her name on the map. But as she gets to work, she fails to notice a silent stranger watching her every move. Someone has discovered what she’s up to and has there own plans to get their hands on the priceless goods.

Scarlett is now face to face with a new enemy. Scarlet fears the Drews may have finally met their match. With the whole family at risk, it’s going to take everything they have to stop their empire going up in smoke. But will everyone survive the fight?

I give Her Rival three out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Her Rival' by Emma Tallon.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 17th September 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the second book in the 'Drew Family' series but can be read as a standalone. The first book I read and the first book in this series is called "Her Revenge" which I would also recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and colouful cover and its intriguing synopsis. The synopsis stated "Fans of Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers will love this nail-biting new book from crime author Emma Tallon, set on the same mean streets as her bestselling Tyler Family series" . I am a fan of Martina's books so am interested to see if it will live up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Emma and if this is half as good as "Her Revenge" it will be an amazing read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a pologie and 69 chapters. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in London, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Scarlet Drew, Lily Drew, Ruby Drew, Cath and Cillian Drew. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

OMG EMMA!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!!! WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY EXPLOSIVE BOOK AND BOMBSHELL CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!! I HOPE YOU'VE WRITTEN YOUR NEXT BOOK BECAUSE I CANNOT WAIT!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions and the perfect atmosphere for the storyline. The synopsis and cover work perfectly with the book cover.

The book is gripping and addictive from the very first page until the last. I was absolutely hooked throughout with the suspense and tension filled plot. I enjoyed delving back into the underworld and getting to know more about the Drew family worked within the family, the factory and all the other gangs. The storyline was intricately woven with so many sub plots that kept me completely engaged throughout. The way Emma has written it really helps your imagination picture everything going on. It is filled with laughter, love, crime, loss, shocks, twists and one hell of an explosive ending!!! What an absolute cliffhanger to end on with not just one shocker but 2 massive bombshells!!! If I am right with what I think happened I am absolutely devastated but I won't say anymore as not to spoil things for future readers but watch this space!! I was absolutely on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with a pounding heart throughout this absolutely gripping and addictive book!!!

I really enjoyed meeting the Drew family again as well as the other characters. I have also learned Emma's previous books were based on the Tyler family who we also met in this series so I am looking forward to going back to read that series as well as any further books in the Drew family serious. Scarlet is definitely a force to be reckoned with as is Lily and who doesn't love a strong kick @ss female in the crime world!! I was absolutely fascinated by all the businesses that she managed to keep afloat. I also enjoyed reading about what Connor and Cillian got up to and having twins myself it's quite interesting to see how these twins worked. I loved both of their huge and hilarious yet serious when needed personalities and they slightly remind me of the Weasley twins from Harry Potter with their cheeky sides. I also had a bit of a soft spot for Ray and really like him. Harry is just an absolute rat and I am glad about what happened with him. I actually started to feel for Ruby in this book and loved how she was starting to try and help out with the family even if maybe for the wrong reasons. Every single character was strong and had their own unique personalities and each definitely left an impression on me.

I am looking forward to reading more of Emma's books and it would be intriguing to see them turned into movies. Emma, congratulations on yet another explosive hit and here's to your next success 🍻!!!

Overall a fast paced, explosive page turning, gripping and addictive adventure from the underworld.

Genres covered in this novel include
Thriller, Mystery and Crime Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans Marina Cole and anyone who enjoys reading about crime from the dark side..

382 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon or free on kindle unlimited which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I love a good book series and even more I love starting a new read where you have already got to know the characters somewhat. This is the second instalment in the Drew Family Series. I really enjoyed the first so was really looking forward to getting stuck into this one. If you are a Martina Cole fan or like a read set in the criminal underworld then this series is for you. Yet again there’s a lot going on within the storyline that there is never a dull moment. I love the Drew Family and how there bond is so strong but even more so I love Lilly & Scarlet and how they are such strong women making there own way in what can be seen as a mans world. Mostly all the characters are really likeable that you become invested in but sure you have to have some unlikeable ones also. I definitely think I have found another author to add to my list when it’s comes to getting my criminal, gangland, underworld fix. Watch out Martina Cole there is a new gal in town… Just hoping it’s not to long to wait for the next instalment.

4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published today.

Her Rival by Emma Tallon is a captivating, can't put down book! I was drawn in from the very beginning and this book did not let me down! This is the second book in an unnamed series but definitely works as a standalone book

The story is fantastic! Fast paced with great twists! I loved the characters! There was so much goodness in this book and my jaw dropped when I reached the end! WOW!!!!! I could not get enough of this book! I can't wait to see what happens next! Hopefully there will be a new book soon because I want to dive back in to this world!

Whoa! What an ending!
A great slow build to amazing climax!
Scarlet is settling in the family business - and ready to start her own venture. A hair salon to help launder money - Scarlet hires her best friend to manage and be lead stylist.
After Ray grabs Ruby from the streets, forcing her to get clean, Ruby joins the salon, determined to put her cousin in her place.
I definitely enjoyed this second book more than the first. Looking forward to the next!

This is the second book in the Drew family series and I absolutely loved it!
I thought the first book was brilliant and this one is just as good, if not better.
Lily and Scarlet come up with a plan of revenge after an incident at a party, but it comes with a serious risk to their family business.
It’s an ambitious plan and things don’t go as smoothly as they hoped, but Lily is extremely clever and knows how things work in the criminal world.
There’s lots going on in this book and whilst some scores are settled, there’s a couple of shocks in store at the end of the book.
This is a gripping crime thriller that well and truly had me hooked.
I can’t wait to read the next one!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Rival’ by Emma Tallon in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Scarlet Drew is new to her family’s firm and their shady business dealings and along with her Aunt Lily and cousins Cillian and Connor plans to build on the reputation started by her father Ronan. When wealthy Harry Chambers crosses her at a party following a charity auction Scarlet and her family have no choice but to wreak revenge on him.

‘Her Rival’ is a gritty gangland thriller and continues from where ‘Her Revenge’ ended. It continues to tell more of the underworld frequented by Lily, Cillian and Connor, and Lily’s frequently absent daughter Ruby who doesn’t get on with Scarlet also makes an appearance. It’s gritty, bloodthirsty and at times horrifying, but there’s lots of excitement, intrigue, and suspense to add to the mix. Fast-paced and heart-stopping with lots of twists and turns, the ending is highly dramatic and leads to the possibility of a third book, I hope so.

A second and welcome return of the Drew family. Can Emma Tallon get any better? Well, Her Rival has proved she can with this exciting gangland saga that has you on the edge of your seat. Twists and turns a-plenty and an ending which has me eager to read book three.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Emma Tallon for an ARC of Her Rival in exchange for an honest review.
Four well deserved stars.
