Love on Location
by Lynne Shelby

Laurel Marten is a script writer called by a film company to do some rewriting on the final script of a blockbuster time travel romantic drama. Working with professor Jason Harvey as historical advisor. She was expecting an elderly gentleman she couldn’t be more wrong. Jason is the exact opposite. They didn’t hit it off very well whilst in there cramped office but when they transfer to the film location of on beautiful Greek island things slowly start to change.

Lovely , beautifully descriptive novel with a easy paced romance with the odd twist thrown in.

Beautiful descriptions of Greece, and I loved watching Laurel work on the script clean up – I've not seen a screenwriter in a book before but this was a wonderful depiction.

I hated Conor, he was written so well as the cheating asshole boyfriend. On the contrary I loved watching Laurel and Jason grow closer, and their romance develop.

A perfect summer time read for lazing on the beach, whether or not you're in Greece.

Fabulous cover! Overall, this delightful escapism read goes into the exploration of the behind-the-scenes pieces for creating a movie. It was very interesting to read about everything about the inner workings from the million rewrites, even if the director wants a tiny detail changed last minute, to just the actual filming in general. Laurel and Jason were both very likable characters and I loved how they taught each other about their respective industries! Even before any romance was in the works for them, I enjoyed the two of them getting to know the other. It was evident that they formed a real bond over the course of the novel. As Lynne Shelby is a new-to-me author, I cannot wait to read more from her in the future!

I loved this book, firstly the title was so unique and summed up the story perfectly, then the cover was just gorgeous.

This story is about Laurel a scriptwriter who is called in to fix a movie script set in Ancient Greece. She was looking forward to the job until she discovers that a professor of archaeology will be joining her for authenticity. Concerned that the old fusty professor will probably step on her toes she is quite pleasantly surprised to meet Jason and finds he’s not what she expected at all.

Laurel’s boyfriend puts her in an awkward situation but then she is overjoyed to find that she is needed out on location in Greece.
The descriptions of everywhere in Greece were just absolutely beautiful, I could easily see myself there and I loved learning the history too. Another interesting aspect was the movie script as we got to find out quite a bit about that and it was so interesting as Laurel and Jason bounced ideas off each other to develop the movie.

The best bit about this book for me was how cleverly written it was, we had Laurel’s real life playing out in front of us and then the script as she and Jason discussed it but Laurel’s imagination was hilarious as it merged the two together and she and Jason were the hero and heroine. I imagine that would be quite easy to show in a film but to capture that in a book shows great writing talent.

If you want to escape from the cold then don’t hesitate to dive into this fabulous book. I loved it x

I LOVED this book.

Lynne Shelby was a new author to me so I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t disappointed!
Firstly I loved the depictions of Greece, it really made me want to travel! The romance was lovely and entertaining. It was such a feel good easy to read romance and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

In Love on Location, Laurel is tasked with rewriting the script of the time-slip movie Swords and Sandals, only to find she has been paired up with an archaeology professor to ensure historical accuracy. As Laurel is used to working alone, there is a bit of friction between them to start with but, knowing they have no choice but to make the best of it, they slowly come to appreciate each other’s expertise.
I have read and enjoyed Lynne Shelby’s previous books based in the world of film and theatre. She always shows both sides of working in the entertainment industry, and balances the glamour with a realistic portrayal of the hard slog and disappointments behind the scenes. Here we get fascinating glimpses behind the scenes on a film set, and find out just how temperamental a director can be.
The large cast of characters are well written and believable, though there were one or two occasions when Laurel and Jason’s behaviour did not ring true. The idyllic Greek locations are depicted in vivid detail – I particularly enjoyed the sojourn in Athens as Jason shows Laurel round the ancient sites and explains the history behind them. The only aspect I had a slight problem with was that someone who writes screenplays for a living would not read books.
I really enjoyed escaping to the Greek island of Kyros, and look forward to Lynne Shelby’s next foray into life in the entertainment world. Thanks to Headline Accent and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, Lynne Shelby is a new author to me. I was happily surprised, this is a fun romance, it’s well written and it flew by once I started reading. The characters are very relatable as well.
The descriptions of Greece were fantastic, I’ve been there once and remember being in awe of the Parthenon. This book brought me right back, and will have you checking flights to Athens! The romance started as a slow burn but definitely picked up! I recommend this book, 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

3.5 rounded up to 4

Love on Location by Lynne Shelby is a sweet, engaging romance.

Hired to rewrite the script for a period film set in ancient Greece, Laurel doesn’t expect to work with a dashing, young archaeologist, Jason. Initially, they have several disagreements about the script, but as they work together, they gradually start liking each other. You can now connect the dots together to visualize where the plot is heading.

I liked both Laurel and Jason. Laurel’s enthusiasm for writing screenplays, which demands a fertile imagination, wins over the taciturn and aloof academic-cum-archaeologist, Jason Harding. I loved how Laurel’s easy-going nature transforms Jason from an uptight man to a relaxed person who is unafraid of declaring his feelings for his lady love.

I also liked the supporting characters, especially, Amber, who is Laurel’s best friend. On the other hand, Conor was the perfect on/off douchebag, cheating boyfriend. This was the part I liked the least. Laurel failed to recognize the dozens of red flags in her relationship with Conor. She stifled her instincts about him.

Shelby treated me to vivid descriptions of the picturesque locals of Greece. Further, she also gave me a glimpse into the world of filmmaking.

Overall, I found Love on Location by Lynne Shelby to be an enjoyable read. Recommended for romance lovers.

Many thanks to the publisher for my copy of the book provided via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion on the book.

This is my favorite type of book! I love books not only with a romantic aspect but also with a Hollywood theme as well!
When Laurel Martin is hired to rewrite the script for a new timeslip blockbuster, she expects the historical advisor hired by the studio to be an elderly academic who won't interfere too much with her writing. But when she meets Professor Jason Harding, a young and unexpectedly handsome archaeologist who has some ideas of his own about the script, she realises the job isn't going to be as simple as she first thought.

As their work takes them from arguing over historical details in a cramped London office to discovering the hidden beauties of a Greek island, Laurel and Jason's relationship starts to echo the romance of their script.

But with Laurel's actor ex-boyfriend making trouble at home, and constant issues with the volatile director, will Laurel and Jason ever be able to write the happy ending for their own story?
It was sort of a hate to love type troupe and it actually reminded me a bit of the movie Their Finest, but with a modern take. It was definitely uniquely written and I loved that it was different from most of the traditional romantic books of this genre. Really enjoyed this one and will be anxiously awaiting the authors next book!

This story was so romantic, but oh so frustrating with the scenes with the ex/current boyfriend that I just wanted to shake some sense into laurel. I really enjoyed the descriptions of life on set and exploring Greece and its islands, and also the stories of the minor characters in the story. It's a proper romance novel that I really enjoyed

This was a wonderfully fun read! Laurel and Jason were both amazing characters who made me cheer them on throughout the entire story. They just worked well together. Also it is set in the Greek Island of Kyros so you could not ask for a better backdrop to envision while reading.

The only person I really didn’t like was Laurel’s ex. He just rubbed me the wrong way from the moment he stepped in the storyline. I mean he was the character that you hope somehow dies horrible. All in all this was an amazing read and I will certainly be checking out this author again.

Lynne Shelby’s Love on Location is gold-plated romantic escapism at its finest!

When Laurel Martin was asked to rewrite the script for a new timeslip blockbuster, she was fully expecting the historical advisor hired by the studio to be a nerdy elderly academic who would supply her with an endless array of facts and details that wouldn’t interfere with her writing or with the direction she wants her script to go in. Laurel doesn’t think the advisor will get in her way – until she realises that the studio has hired Professor Jason Harding, who not only looks like a movie star, but who also has some ideas about the script he doesn’t want to budge on. It looks like all of Laurel’s best laid plans are about to go flying out the window!

With no other option but to buckle down and try to make the best out of the situation they have found themselves in, Laurel and Jason hole themselves up in a cramped London office and begin to butt heads over the script. However, as they find themselves leaving rainy England behind for the bejewelled splendour of Greece, a tentative friendship blossoms that quickly gives way to an attraction that simply cannot be denied. As their feelings for one another intensify, Laurel and Jason find themselves falling in love, but could their Hollywood ending be under threat by her former boyfriend who is determined to make trouble for her at home?

As Laurel and Jason find themselves having to cope with a volatile director and a plethora of issues on set, will they able to sail off into the sunset together? Or should they get ready for a devastating plot twist that will tear them apart for good?

Lynne Shelby has penned a fun, flirty and feel-good romantic read that is simply delightful. An irresistible page-turner sprinkled with humour, warmth, wit and a whole lot of heart, Love on Location enchants and entertains and will leave readers with a great big smile on their face as they find themselves completely and utterly gripped by Laurel and Jason’s emotional and uplifting love story.

Lynne Shelby’s Love on Location is an enjoyable contemporary romance that is pure magic from start to finish.

Oh I loved this book and it’s the closest to a holiday I’m going to get this year. Laurel is writing a screenplay for what is hoped will be a blockbuster love story in two time zones. She has Jason foisted in her to help her with the Ancient Greek time and he’s a Professor on the subject. Laurel has a troublesome boyfriend who won’t take no for an answer. Laurels flatmate Amber doesn’t like him. She has been cast in the film as well. They all end up in the idyllic island of Kyros. Laurel and Jason have a stopover in Athens where she discovers a love of archaeology and Jason! There are ups and downs as there always are in love stories but this is one of the better ones. I couldn’t put it down

Well this book completely shocked me by how much I enjoyed it!

It was filled with amazing descriptions of Greece mythology and landscape 😍 Gosh it was a lovely summery read!

The book focuses on Laurel who is a screenwriter and Jason, an archaeologist, teamed together to make sure the film they are sorting the script for is historically correct.

If your interested in the makings of on a movie set, I'm sure you will enjoy this book.

Towards the end I did get frustrated with some things that happened! But that's just me 🤷 Perfect summer read that just draws you in ☺️

Lynne Shelby does a remarkable job of writing characters that are quirky, fun, and easy to like. The story whisks you away to Greece where magic can happen.

The settings are richly described making you feel like you are right there watching this story play out like a movie.

I enjoyed the curtain being drawn back to let us peek at the behind-the-scenes action on a movie set.

This book is the perfect summer beach read or to snuggle in under a blanket in winter and dream of Greek Islands and love.

As a Greek mythology/history buff, this book really spoke to me. I ended up loving it a lot more than I thought I would. The writing in Love on Location is great and the way things were described made it so much easier to see them play out in front of you like a movie (which is the actual setting of the book). Laurel and Jason had a wonderfully cute romance; I really loved the conversations they had with each other and the banter they shared. The side characters were pretty great too and felt well-developed to me.
Overall, this was a pretty fun read which kind of made me want to pick up this author's other works.
