I think this must be the most anticipated book release of the year! I was delighted to get an extract for review. The first chapter is loaded with irishness. The pub, the awkwardness, the old rectory, the setting etc I loved that about it. I will most definitely be buying the book to see what Alice gets up to. But Sally Rooney’s lack of punctuation does drive me mad! I guess I’ll have to get over it!

I received the extract and it has me wanting more. I want to know what is the story of Alice and Felix. Why she is renting that house? What is her story? What she writes? Why the vague answers? I want to know more about Felix.
I have lot many questions. Their meeting was interesting and had me hooked.
Can't wait to read the entire book.

Thank you Netgalley for this extract.

I didn't like the writing style much, to be honest. It left me standing outside and I couldn't connect with the characters at all. So sorry but I don't want to get to read any more than this extract.

Thanks, though, to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of the extract!

I received the extract (chapter 1)

As far as first chapters go, this one had me hooked. Usually it takes some time for me to warm to a book or get excited about turning the next page but Sally Rooney has me wanting more.
I’m curious about what is happening with the female protagonist, what’s her back story? Is the date younger than her? He came across as younger than her but that’s just me being over observant, perhaps.
I like how Rooney sets the scene, you can tell the main character is not familiar with blind dating or whatever online dating site she met him on. Is he being used as bait for her new novel?
I have so many questions.
I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the book. Sally’s style of writing is fluid and coherent, not pretentious. This book is sure to be a best seller and will most definitely appeal to a larger audience than that of her previous books.

I am super excited to read the rest of this book! I really liked how it started. Normally I have issues with Sally Rooney books so i hope is the rest is as good as the first chapter.

Great start but need more than one chapter to really engage with the story and where it is going. Roll on the rest of the book...

This was a very short extract, but I am so intrigued and cannot wait to get my hands on the full novel to read on! In this preview I got to meet Alice and Felix who seem to be on a blind date. Both characters are intriguing and Rooney swiftly establishes that each have back-stories that need to be heard - sadly, the extract shared few details.
The prose flows beautifully and I was fully invested in their meeting and wanted to know about them as individuals and their future together.
I did find the lack of speech punctuation a little disconcerting, as at times I wasn't sure that I was hearing speech or internal thoughts, but once I recognised this style the book got easier to read.
Frustrated that I can't read on! Can't wait for more!

Having read a short extract of 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' by Sally Rooney I am intrigued to read more.

Although I have certainly heard of the Rooney, I have not previously read her work. As a result I am unsure if the unusual writing style in this first chapter of her novel is representative of her usual style. It is as if Rooney has been set the task of not labelling anything, but instead describing as if she is providing audio description to someone who is blind. Whilst this might sound laborious, I did find it compelling, and I am interested to discover the effect it has upon my reading of the book and whether I become emotionally invested or feel overly disconnected.

Oh you really teased me by giving me just an extract. I love Sally Rooney and all her work and I loved this chapter just as much as all the others and I cannot wait to delve into this once it arrives in September. You guys have gotten me super excited!!!

I shouldn't have read this, I just desperately want the rest now! Sally Rooney is back with what looks set to be another brilliant read.

Oh gosh, I loved the first chapter! It would be so great to receive the full ARC if it's available so I can feature it on my site, bookclubchat.com. Thank you.

Such a teaser!
This book looks and sounds fantastic.
Having being able to read a sample, it has made me so much more excited for the full title.
I cannot wait to read this.

I received a sample chapter of this book for review. The sample was short but it definitely sucked me into the book. We meet the two main characters out on a date. It isn’t clear how they came to meet, and there is an awkward tension between them. It left me wanting to know more about them both.

Sally Rooney has a very strong personal writing style, where she doesn’t use speech marks. Initially this can make it hard to follow what’s happening, but you get used to it very quickly.

From reading this extract I would definitely read the rest of the book.

While I knew what I was getting into, with reviewing an extract, I'm finding it hard to complete a review based off one chapter. All I can say is that so far I have found the beginning enjoyable, but not quite captivating. It hasn't grabbed me enough that I need to pick up this book, but I'm not ruling it out.

TBH, this extract didn't really caught me, given that it only contains the first chapter. Just a couple talked with eack other about basic things.
The format was unusual—the conversations didn't use quotation mark—and unfortunately I didn't get used to it.
I'm not sure if I want to read the whole book but maybe I'll reconsider later after read another people's full reviews.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Faber for providing this extract in exchange for an honest review!

I was given an extract of the book (the first chapter from what I gathered). I now want to keep reading and I'm looking forward to this book. The book starts with what seems to be a blind date. Alice is waiting for Felix at a hotel bar. Felix lived some time abroad. Alice is a writer. After a couple of beers they go to the place Alice is staying as a some sort of house sitter. Nothing happens between them and the date ens as a fail.
Sally Rooney's writing is beautiful. So direct and unadorned that I find it very honest.
I will be reading the rest of the book, for sure.

Just from the first chapter, I can honestly say that I’m intrigued. Do I want to read the entirety of the novel? Well, yes please!!!
Such a great premise. Such a great first chapter. What else can I say?! I can’t wait for the novel to come out, so that I can enjoy the rest of it, as I’m sure will!

Thank you to NetGalley, Faber &Faber and Sally Rooney for the extract of "Beautiful World, Where are You"!

🌎 Beautiful World, Where Are You 🌎

Thank you to @netgalley and @faberbooks for a sneak peak extract of Sally Rooney’s new book out 07.09.21!

In this extract I was able to read the first chapter where we meet the first two main characters, and I was immediately drawn in. Sally has an effortless ability to describe the subtleties of character, writing real people that feel tangible. In this first chapter she also slowly untangles the complexities of new relationships, and so I felt I understood these characters despite reading only the first 14 pages.

When the first chapter of a book is engaging I know I will most likely enjoy the rest of the book, so I’m so excited to carry on reading. Now I’ve been transported into this world I can’t wait to see which directions this story takes and to read more of the layered characters Sally writes so well.

I need more!!!
I really want to know where this story goes. What future interactions will Alice and Felix have? What's wrong with the house, is it haunted, did he know someone who lived there?
But for goodness sakes learn to use some quotations!

I liked this extract and I am looking forward to reading more about these new characters. Normal people became one of my favourite books ever, so I am very excited to read the rest and read more of Sally Rooney's writing. (I pre-ordered it ages ago!) when it comes out in September.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers.
