Sally Rooney's prose is always beautiful. A one chapter excerpt is not nearly enough--I definitely want to read more (and seeing as how popular Sally Rooney is, only offering an excerpt is a cute way to make sure that I go out and actually buy the book rather than love on an ARC). I can't wait for the release, so I can lose myself in her writing again.

It is hard to review one chapter. I read Sally Rooney's recent story which seemed to me like a prequel to this novel, so I had high expectations based on the magnificent story. However, I was a bit disappointed.
It was hard to follow the dialogue due to the non-punctuated/formatted text. The dialogue was weaved into the text as a part of the storytelling. The chapter did not give much of what distinguishes Sally's style; the inner dialogue/thoughts, but I cannot judge the entire novel based on one chapter. I am also more interested in Eileen's story (Based on Sally's Unread Messages)!
I pre-ordered the novel, and I am sure the rest of the novel will exceed my expectations.

From the first page, it’s very Sally Rooney!!! The way she describes the tiniest details of a character’s demeanor and movements to show who they are and what they are like. This extact is only 14 pages, so not much I can say about the story and characters, but I’m glad to see Rooney keeping her writing style with this book. I’m very intrigued and interested in getting to know more about the chatacters!!

I'm unsure how to rate a 14-page extract, but this is my most-anticipated release of the entire year and all this chapter of it did was make me anticipate it more. As always, Rooney somehow manages to fit an entire book's worth of tension and growth in one single chapter. I can't believe how much we learned about Alice - and how much more I want to know about her, and Felix - in just this excerpt. Looking forward to being able to read the rest of the book, hopefully sooner rather than later!

Pros: I read Normal People, but it wasn’t for me because of the ages of the characters and the angst. However, I thought the book was well written and have been interested in reading more books by Sally Rooney. I was curious to read a selection from her newest novel because I have FOMO if I don’t read what everyone is talking about, and my favorite book recommenders are talking about this book. I am intrigued by the first chapter of this book and have requested the audiobook from the library. (I’m third on the waitlist!)
Cons: I think books about young adults might not be for me. I get frustrated with the (bad) decisions they make. Based on the description of this book, I think there will be lots of bad decisions made by young adults.
Thank you to NetGalley and Faber & Faber for the opportunity to read the first chapter of this book!

I was so happy to get to read the first chapter of beautiful world. I really enjoyed Normal people so was excited to read this chapter. I like Sally Rooney writing style and it kept me hooked on the first chapter and I am interested where this story going to go. The first chapter was not enough I wanted to read more. I warmed to the characters Felix and Alice straight away. I liked how the narrator is all seeing.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this book.

These comments cover just the first chapter of Sally Rooney’s upcoming new novel. I was intrigued by what I read.
In this chapter, Ms. Rooney does an excellent job of creating an atmosphere. A woman is sitting in a bar alone. It becomes clear that she is waiting for someone. A man enters. He does not know the woman but finds her after checking his phone. Who are they? What, if anything, will they become to one another?
It seems that Ms. Rooney may be planning to answer these questions slowly. Readers learn that the woman is Alice. As the layers unfold, readers discover that she is an author and that she is living rent free in a home that turns out to be a rectory.
Readers learn that the man is Felix. He works in a warehouse and is a native of the place where this scene takes place. It eventually becomes clear that this is some kind of date. The two spend a brief time at Alice’s house before the chapter ends.
And that is all I know without reading the description of the book. I would like to know more. Would you?
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this content. All opinions are my own.

I received an excerpt from NetGalley, sadly it was only the first chapter. Yet I am intrigued. I also read an excerpt in the New Yorker a few weeks ago. I am putting it together like a jigsaw puzzle, but It seems like I will have to wait until September 7 for the whole picture to appear. what can I say Sally Rooney, you had me at hello, even without quotation marks.

This was a perfect excerpt to the beginning of something that’s going to be an excellent read. I have previous experience with sally rooney with her work especially normal people. I think rooney excelled at the emotions she portrayed and illustrated in that book, something I read in one sitting. So I’m excited to see where this book goes. The subtle introduction to a new cast of characters is already very intriguing so it’ll be interesting to see where else they go from here. 5/5 stars what a brilliant excerpt to something I know will be an amazing novel.

Thank you, publisher and NetGalley for the sample. I decided not to pick up this novel when it releases. I've tried to read the last two Sally Rooney novels but do not connect with the writing style.

Sadly, I did not realise when I requested this that it was just the opening chapter of Sally Rooney's much anticipated forthcoming novel. However I was still excited to read this after loving Normal People. It is written in Rooney's trademark style with no speech marks (this annoyed me when I first started reading Normal People) but I soon forgot about this as I became immersed in the story. This opening chapter was intriguing and I'm looking forward to reading the entire novel soon.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this digital extract from the book.

Having heard a lot about this particular author and her previous work, I was excited to read this extract. Unfortunately, this particular writing style is not for me. The author puts a lot of detail into her writing and sometimes, this made it feel a little bit like waffling on. Although only a small extract, I felt that it took too long to read because of all of the subtle detail that wasn't needed, in my opinion.
I also did not like the lack of speech marks. I have seen this in other novels and find it too off putting. I believe it is a technique used to make the speech part of the actual story, but I just cannot get on with that particular style.
I couldn't connect with the characters and found the mannerisms came across as rude and unrealistic. I won't rush to read the full book.

When I requested this, I did not realize it was just the first chapter of the book, though still happy to read in anticipation of the book's release next month. I've thoroughly enjoyed Sally Rooney's books in the past and am very much looking forward to reading this one. The first chapter wets your appetite for more- it opens on a first date in a small town. The woman, a writer, is new to the town and she meets a local. Their conversation is interesting from the start- there is evasiveness and uncertainty. Just that short first interaction intrigues me on what is to come next. Hopefully will get to read the whole novel soon!
Thank you NetGalley and Faber & Faber for the advance reader copy of the first chapter.

Scanning messages and emails yesterday, I saw one from NetGalley with the text “Beautiful World, Where are You”. I was beyond excited.
Alas, it is an "extract", Chapter 1. I set my disappointment aside and jumped right in. I immediately recognized Sally Rooney’s signature style – short, clipped sentences, unpunctuated simple and edgy dialogue between cryptic and precarious people. And the protagonist is a writer.
It was a treat and makes me even more excited to get ahold of the whole thing.. Just one more month to September. I will be patient and let everyone know that there is something special on the way.
Thank you to Faber and Faber and NetGalley for the eExcerpt..

Consider my appetite for BWWAY WHETTED by this extract - I feel like I am going to absolutely love this book. I just wish I had an opportunity to devour it already, absolutely cannot wait to see it out in the wilds.

I can tell I’m going to enjoy this. Raw characters, dry humour and eerie descriptions. We’re introduced in the first chapter to our main character Alice who is on a date with Felix after moving to what we learn is a small town on the coast, presumably in Ireland, after living in a Dublin and New York. Alice is a writer and seems intelligent and a bit mysterious. Classic Sally Rooney writing. I can’t give a full review until I’ve read more than the first chapter but I have a good feeling about it and I can’t wait to read it in full.

Only an extract so impossible to judge its quality or to offer a sensible review on such limited evidence.

This first chapter was so intriguing and left me wanting to read more, I can't wait for the whole book to come out and for me to read it.
(Rating it 3 stars simply because I only have one chapter to go on)

I find it really hard to rate the entire book just by the first chapter, hence only 3 stars. Certainly it was intriguing and I would most likely read the entire novel once it's published. I think it's a really interesting concept, considering the description of the plot and the promise of the new characters being introduced further down the line.

This is just the first chapter which is nice for a taster. Didn't really tell me much about the plot or the characters as they kind of seem like carbon copies of the main characters in Normal People at the moment. I am intrigued enough to want to read the rest of it for sure, but I wasn't hugely blown away.
