This book was a huge disappointment. I had enjoyed others in the series but not this one. The writing was complicated for no reason.

A challenging but worthy ending of a fabulous series which I suspected will only get better on future rereads.

The Storm of Echoes is the fourth installment in a very mysterious and wonderful French series. This ends the Mirror Visitor Quartet. This was not my favourite book of the series and unfortuately this fell a little flat for me compared to the other books in the series. Although I did love this world so I appreciated reading more about it. I do not want to dwell much further but a series reread is on the cards.

The last book in the Mirror Visitor quartet and I have mixed feelings about it. I originally gave it four stars but then went away and thought about it and decided to demote it to three. Reasons - I really liked this series it was chock full of original ideas and concepts that’s I was interested to read about with worlds and characters I liked. It’s definitely a series of two halves, the first books are all court politics and intrigue as Ophelia tries to chart the choppy waters of the Pole hierarchy at the same time as being thrust into an arranged marriage. The next two books throw all of that out the window and immerse us in a whole new world where Ophelia is isolated from everyone she knows and has to, along with reader, learn to navigate her way through them while on a quest for something else.
The last two books are very similar, A Storm of Echoes felt like it repeated a lot of Ophelia’s journey from book 3. It felt overly complicated and it need of a good edit. There was too much plot not nearly enough character. I wanted all our old friends back. I wanted Archibald and Aunt Rosalie and Bernenilde most of all I wanted Thorn. Thorn is constantly sidelined and in this book he is given very little to do. And do not even get me started in that ending! Urgh! argh! And what the hell was all that with Victoria?! It was so insignificant in the end, they could have cut all that out and it wouldn’t have impacted the plot in any way. And the genealogists? What was that all about? They never really became anything either. It felt rushed with unnecessary off shoots that didn’t serve the main plot and the only things that kept me reading were Ophelia and Thorn. I love them. #shortchanged

What a shame that I didn't enjoy this final installment in the Mirror Visitor series, but for me, it just got far too confusing and was trying to be too philosophical in what is ostensibly, a YA adventure series. This was definitely a case of the book doing too much and not executing any of it very well, to the extent where I actively disliked the reading experience until the last 50 pages. So sad :(
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was such a perfect ending to one of my favourite fantasy series ever- whimsical and a delight to get lost in such a wonderful world like this one. It was also such a brilliant transition.

This series is something else!

I enjoyed this read.

I was entrapped watching the events unfold as they fought to solve the chaos in their universe of the arks.

I love the paring I would say was enemies to lovers.

I was worried about the final book after being disappointed with the third installment of the Mirror Visitor and unfortunately my fears were realised. The fourth book completed the shift away from the characters that made The Missing of Clair de Lune so much better than the others. Ophelia dominates and frankly she isn't a developed or interesting enough character to carry the focus of books three and four. Without the entertaining supporting characters like Archibald, Berenilde, Fox, Gail and Rosaline the story had far less depth. Instead of paying to their strengths, all are replaced in significance by characters from book three though they are much flatter.

Much of they narrative is reduced to the stream of questions that Ophelia is constantly and irritatingly asking herself about what is happening and what it means. This seems to be Dabos's way of ensuring the READER is asking the right questions, because frankly the plot is a mess. I'm sure she had a very clear idea about what was happening with God, the Other, the echoes, the landslides, the Horn of Plenty etc. but the translation of that explanation to the page was tangled and confused and many of the details had no reference to the earlier books.

All in all it was a muddled offering that left me with more questions than answers, and not in a good way. The sudden influx of metaphysics to the story, which definitely owes a debt to His Dark Materials, left pacing and characters floundering in abstraction. A disappointing conclusion to a series that showed real promise in book 2.

So excited to have been able to read the final instalment for this quartet. After picking up the first book I was very eager to read the rest.
I enjoyed the magic system and world building with the series and it continued on within this final book. A satisfying ending but I think it probably could have been a trilogy instead of a quartet.
An enjoyable read all the same though, if definitely recommend it

This is the 4th in the Mirror Visotr series and is young adult fantasy.

I had previously really enjoyed the first 2 books of this series, but found nook 3 a bit of a retread of book 1 , so had mixed expectations going into the final book.

The plot of this series is quite complicated - the world building is excellent, it's this steam punk world where the planet has ruptured apart into floating arks, there are family spirits which are like minor gods for each ark, and there is a god and an Other figure that they're trying to hunt down to stop the world essentially disintegrating. It's pretty complicated!

This book got off to a very slow start for me. As someone who reads most books in a day, it took me a full week to get to 50% but thankfully it did then pick up. But I don't think that this series needed to be 4 books - and 4 not short books at that. A lot of the side characters end up as fairly irrelevant by this book, other than to be lost in one way or another. I feel like it could have been condensed down

I didn't figure out the god or other twist so that was a plus! This was a lot better than book 3, with more happening in the story and Thorn finally becoming more of a rounded character.

I loved the fact that this book started with a recap of the characters and what had happened to them

I didn't particularly like the degree of suffering Ophelia has to endure across this series, especially as its positioned as necessary to the greater good somehow. I also don't understand why so many of the YA fantasy books have to have the female main character give up their amazing power to 'win'

This finishes in a quite open ended way. Personally I would have liked a happier ending, but I also don't know if it's just leaving it open for sequels

Thank you to Netgalley, Europa Editions and Christelle Dabos for my arc of The Storm of Echoes in exchange for an honest review.

Publishing: 16th September

Warning: some spoilers for the first 3 books in the series.

I was a little nervous to start this one because some of the reviews haven’t been so favourable and after loving the first 3 books in the series the last thing I wanted was to be disappointed by the finale. But I needn’t have worried. The Storm of Echoes was a fantastic finale.

I’ll try to mainly talk about the book in general but there maybe some small bits from the first 3 that you might want to avoid if you’ve not read them yet.

The finale to the series was brilliant. Complex, but clear. The history of the world that Christelle Dabos has woven together is fantastically interesting. I was riveted. I didn’t know how all the loose threads would pull together, but pull together they did. It was honestly so interesting, the world building is incredible and the character development and journey of each character but particularly Ophelia, and Ophelia and Thorn together has just been amazing. I’m so sad that it’s over but at the same time so happy that ALL questions were answered.

The ending is slightly open ended which I know a few people have complained about but for me it was enough I think it was good for it to end that way. What was far more important for me was the resolution of all questions formed by the first three books. Knowing about the family spirits and where they came from and what happened to their books. Knowing what turned god into a mean and spiteful character, knowing why the world had been turned into arcs, knowing what made Ophelia, Ophelia. It all makes sense now.

I don’t often love a series enough to want to reread it but as soon as my physical copy of this book is in my hands I’ll be doing a reread because it is one of those series’ where once you know the ending you want the pleasure of reading it again with all the new knowledge you have obtained so you can spot all the little clues and have yourself some ‘Aha!’ Moments.

If you’ve not read this series yet please do check it out, it’s one of the best I’ve read in a long while.

Wow. I am reeling. What an incredible finale to one of my new absolute favourite series of all time!

I don't like going over the plot as part of a review, but even more so on this as it's so important not to give anything away. The constant twists and turns had my stomach in knots, with an intelligent, powerful plotline interspersed with intrigue, tenderness, humour and heartbreak.

The characters and locations throughout the series have been vibrant and well-defined; I've found it so easy to slip into the visuals of every page. Each moment feels considered, each detail meaningful to the wider view, and watching it all come together has been such an experience.

This is a mature, adult fantasy that gives us high-powered, visually stunning characters, that still manage to be fresh and relatable, in a world so different to our own and yet familiar in many ways. Nothing feels predictable, and the plot pulls you along to a crescendo like no other. I'm so glad I was surprised and shocked by this book - it defied my guesses and never compromised the plot for generic crowd-pleasers.

Despite the ache I feel at coming to the end of this series, I would whole-heartedly recommend. Do I feel like I want more? Yes and no - there are elements I desperately want to journey on with, but in truth, the story is complete as it is. However, should Dabos ever choose to return to the world of The Mirror Visitor, I would be eagerly in line to read!

Thank you to NetGalley, Europa Editions and Christelle Dabos for the opportunity to shatter my heart and soul with The Storm of Echoes digital ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

So many details so many twists and turns and reasons to keep reading but of course that’s exactly what you’d expect going into the finale and the conclusion of a beloved series. There were many details that readers will surely have to grasp to understand the conclusion but I adored this. It’s difficult for me to pin point why this conclusion was perfect for me but it was. I’ve loved this series since book 1. It’s one of those series that will stay with me for a long time. It’s a very large world and very interesting world the author has created so it’s beyond interesting. I can’t say much because it is the conclusion of the story but, thorn and Ophelia were perfect!!!! I love them and will always love them. Ophelia is a character I know I would be able to follow for the rest of my life on more journeys and more adventures, but alas every story must come to an end and I’ve had the pleasure of reading Ophelias story from the beginning to finally the end! 4/5 stars!

Absolutely brilliant. Broke my heart a little. I cried and yet I feel content? I definitely want more though. A sequel series or a post book 4 novella?

So many questions got answered. Everything makes sense now. The best part of the book was the development of Thorn and Ophelia's relationship. I cherished every single moment they were on page together. They moved me so much.

The ending is definitely bittersweet and open but very hopeful. I expect more books!

With thanks to NetGalley for the eARC.

What. A. Ride. The Mirror Visitor quartet managed to go where I wasn’t expecting and still tie everything off. It’s almost 2 duologies in that the first 2 books form one arc and the second 2 pick up after Ophelia starts deciding for herself more than being carried along by events, although as it turns out shadows in the wings and future echoes are everywhere.

Personally? I really like the series. I even almost understood Thorn. Ophelia, the Other, God, all made sense in a really satisfying way. The old world of beset by repetitive wars felt both distant and familiar, the way Babel responds to recent arrivals felt very much like a repeated history. Ophelia deals with loss and shock, this one borders on a ghost story with the mystery at its heart. This isn’t one where you can guess from the clues, if it were, some of the big players would have already solved it which explains why Ophelia is the only one who even has a chance…

The Mirror Visitor quartet was never big on the romance aspect but there are several relationships predicated on both sides respecting the other person as they are which is nice to see, although Ophelia wants to make Thorn happier with himself I was very relieved she never manages it! Some people might say the end is bittersweet, I’d argue it’s reasonably happy if mature. If you like your fantasy series with high stakes, mysterious cult-like groups, undercover missions… the court politics has died down drastically in this one too as it is a city state, the hierarchies shift quite a lot. Honestly, I can recommend it as a different kind of series to the mainstream (with gorgeous covers!)

The Storm of Echoes is the final instalment in the mirror visitor series. Ophelia along with Thorn are still searching for the elusive God and trying to piece the puzzle together before all the Arks and its inhabitants are destroyed forever.

I was really interested to see what happened in the conclusion novel of the quartet and I felt that a lot of the different storylines did have a satisfactory conclusions a lot of questions were answered; however, I didn't love the ending so this is a 4 stars for me but overall, I have really enjoyed the series.
