I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Great to be back in Hartmouth & Ferry Lane market. I enjoyed the previous book so was looking forward to reading this one and I wasn’t disappointed.
Set a few months after the first book Star is still reeling from Jack, the man she had such a strong and immediate connection, leaving Hartmouth without even a proper goodbye or an explanation. In this story we follow her as she begins to try and mend her broken heart.
Once again a book filled with great characters & an interesting storyline. A really enjoyable book that could be read & enjoyed any time, but especially during the cold winter months.

I loved this book about star crossed lovers and the difference between friendship and love.
Estelle, Star and Skye are the focus of this story and it tells of their bond as well as those of the men they love.

In this book we catch up with Kara and Billy but the main protagonist is Star, Kara's best friend. Star became pregnant at 16, and now her daughter Skye is growing up. Star evaluates her life choices and her family members to try and work out what she wants to do next.
Star suddenly finds that she has a lot of upheaval and needs to decide what she wants to do. There are a lot of twists and turns and revelations, some of which affect other characters too.
There are a lot of subplots involving other characters, some old, some new. Although there was always something happening it was easy to read and understand. The writing flowed well and I was compelled to keep on reading.
I really enjoyed reading this book, there were some surprises along the way and it was very emotional in places. It was a very heartwarming read. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

Starry Skies In Ferry Lane Market by @author_nicola another NetGalley read. We are reintroduced to the characters of Ferry Lane Market this time we hear of Star’s story. I don’t want to tell you to much as I don’t want to give anything away. If you are new to these book you can read as a stand alone book. I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for the next book. This book has everything, it’s funny, sad, tackles tough issues, has a little bit of a a rude sense of humour in places and there are story outcomes that you won’t predict. This book has heart, a Cornish village feel, it has a great sense of humour but at the same time doesn’t shy away from difficult issues but deals with those issues with sensitivity and realism. As soon as starting this book it felt like I was reading about old friends and family I hadn’t seen for ages, like getting a warm hug from them all, nothing felt repeated, it felt all new and fresh. Nicola May manages to capture cornwall and the heart and kindness of its people between the pages. I didn’t think I would feel like reading so much while me and my daughter had covid and while I prob didn’t read as much this kept me hooked without even trying to. Nicola May is a new author I discovered this year and is one of the best authors I have found this year, so much so that I have brought the first series of her books. This is also up there with one of the best books I’ve read this year for so many reasons one of those reasons being there was a stand out moment (I won’t give moment away) where I was shocked by a revelation in the book and had to stop reading and take that moment in because I didn’t see it coming. I haven’t started another book yet because I have a book hanger mover from this one. I will definitely be recommending to anyone that will listen I loved every page and hopefully you can tell that from this review. Like I said can’t wait to read the next book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved being back at the Ferry Lane Market and following Star's journey.

These characters are so well written that you cannot help but love and cheer them on as if you knew them in real life. These characters are so realistic and relatable, they make mistakes and they deal with the consequences.

I ended up devouring this in one sitting, much like when I read the first book, and I am so excited for the next one in the series!

Thank you so much to Hodder and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

5☆ Enchanting, Witty, Romantic...A Must Read!

Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market is the second book in this brand new series.
Well it's my first book and I'm gutted I didn't read the first installment, as I adored this one so much.
So I will definitely be reading them both as there's lots more I want to learn about Hartmouth and Ferry Lane.

For me there was no problem with reading this as a standalone, as all the threads to previous storylines were explained perfectly and wow are they juicy!

Oh how I adored the Ferry Lane Market, the ambiance, the eclectic bunch of characters, the quaint descriptions,
I could go on but you really do need to uncover this magical place for yourself.

I loved Star she's such a relatable character with a big heart and a huge mystery she's about to discover answers to, when the mysterious Jack walks back into hers, and her daughter Skye's lives.

Not to mention the incredibly rugged and handsome Conor, who's taking residence in Kara Moons flat, after having to make a quick getaway from the life he had to leave behind!
I'm a sucker for an Irish accent so I was championing him the whole time to win Star's heart.

Yet again Nicola May has written an absolute gem of a story, she is such an incredibly talented Author.
She has a special way of bringing her stories and characters to life and making you fall in love with every single bit of the story and always leaves you wanting more!

Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market is a Heartwarming, Witty, Enchanting and Romantic story, full of secrets, drama, Heartfelt Moments, Loveable, Eclectic and Endearing Characters and a Stunning Location.
Once I started reading I was so absorbed I didn't want to put it down!
I can't wait for the next installment!
If you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading any of this Authors books then I highly suggest you give them a try as once you do you will be hooked!

It’s only fairly recently that I discovered how flipping fantastic an author Nicola May is. Since then I have read one of her earlier books whenever I have the spare time. I haven’t caught up with everything that she has written to date but I will get there. I have a particular fondness for the series set in ‘Ferry Lane Market’. Nicola’s latest book is called ‘Starry Skies In Ferry Lane Market’ and it is the second book in the series. It’s another corker of a read, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading but more about that in a bit.
It took me no time at all to get into ‘Starry Skies In Ferry Lane Market’. In fact seeing Nicola’s name on the cover of a new book was enough to grab my attention, the synopsis drew me in and the story within the book’s covers sealed the deal as it were. Once I started reading, I found it almost impossible to put the book down. The book wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. Part of the reason why I became so addicted to the story was the fact that I loved most, if not all, of the characters. I had my favourite characters and I had to keep turning those pages to see how their part of the story panned out. It was if the book had developed a hold over me and it was a hold that I didn’t want to break. All too quickly I reached the end of the story and I had to say farewell to Star and the rest of the Ferry Lane Market gang. I found ‘Starry Skies In Ferry Lane Market’ to be a delight to read from start to finish. I loved the way in which the book left me with a smile on my face.
‘Starry Skies In Ferry Lane Market’ is superbly written and then some but then I think that to be true of all of Nicola’s books that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing. Nicola has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Nicola’s books feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a gentle pace throughout. Nicola clearly cares about her characters a great deal and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she writes about them. Nicola describes them so vividly that they seem just as real as you and I. I love the fact that Nicola makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story themselves and at the heart of all the action.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Starry Skies In Ferry Lane Market’ and I would recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Nicola’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

How lovely to return to Ferry Lane and meet up with the characters again. Some things stay the same, others progress as life always does. Star tries to move on after Jack, Billy and Kara are living together and Star's mum, well she has still not forgotten her first love.
With romance never running smoothly, some of the characters seem resigned to life alone, but with the warmth and wit of Nicola May and the festivities of Christmas, this is not an option.
A warm and cuddly cosy read with a strong message wrapped up in soft tissue paper.

I read and loved the first hook in the series. This book was a phenomenal follow-up. The characters and environment we found and loved in the first book. Honestly, I can't wait to read more from this series.

I just soaked up Starry Skies in Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May in one sitting, I was so engrossed I had to finish it to the end. Loved going back to Ferry Lane and can’t wait for book 3 in the series.

It has been said that it can be read as a stand-alone, but please don’t do that. You will miss out on so much and reading the books out of sync would also ruin certain aspects. If you love books like Jessica Redland’s Whitsborough Bay series or Christmas on Castle Street series then I urge you to give these books a try. I am not sure where I would rather live and work… Castle Street or Ferry Lane Market? Both these places and their communities are so wonderful!

The first book in the series focused on Kara Moon and this second book focuses on her best friend Star Bligh. Although Star has the lead role we still reconnect with all the other lovely characters from book one and it really felt so heartwarming like being back with family or the best of friends. I think I know the people from Ferry Lane Market in Hartmouth better than I know my own extended family and I love all these characters dearly!

What to expect:

✅ more about all the characters we met in book 1 and a few new characters are introduced to us

✅ a super kind and beautiful inside and out main character Star that has such a strong relationship with her teenage daughter, her best friend Kara and her auntie Flo

✅ wonderful setting in the estuary and the shops and stalls on Ferry Lane Market

✅ friends being there for one another, for better or worse. Friends can be like the family we choose!

✅ drama with Star’s mother and Star’s love life

✅ secrets that come out

✅ a hilarious budgie with a real dirty mouth/beak on him!

✅ Star’s auntie Flo is just as lovely and heartwarming as Kara’s grandpa was in book 1

✅ lots of smiling, some laughs and most of all heartwarming moments.

I definitely want to read more books in this series!

Full disclosure, I only picked this book from NetGalley because I needed a ‘market’ prompt book for the Bookstagrammer Globe Challenge (which I still have 11 outstanding prompts for so am going to fail anyway…), and when I found out it was the second in a series I thought oh for goodness sake! However, after a quick internet search I identified it focused on somebody else’s story so thought I’d give it a go.

Ferry lane is a quiet market village in Cornwall where Star and her teenage daughter live. Star owns a jewellery business and Skye (her daughter) works in the florist next door with Star’s best friend Kara (I believe the first book focuses on Kara). Star has been single most of her life focusing on raising Skye but after a fling (again I think in the first book) with a New Yorker named Jack she can’t stop thinking about him and hoping he will return. However, Jack has a girlfriend in New York that he lives with and has been ignoring all of her messages. Clearly it is time to move on. In steps Conor the mysterious Irishman who sweeps Star off her feet in a fun light hearted relationship. But when she receives life changing news Star needs to decide whether their fun relationship could be something more.

This book was wonderfully lighthearted, even though it dealt with some heavy hitting topics. It definitely wasn’t earth shattering in any way shape or form, but it was a lovely read. Star’s relationships with her family were intriguing and I could definitely relate to her overwhelming sense of responsibility to look after everybody.

Overall, it was a lovely read. I’d definitely pick up another Nicola May story (there was definitely a hint that one of the characters was moving into a different series of books by May), but I’m also not rushing to pick up another in the imminent future.
