I love Carmilla, and it was a pleasure getting to read this deluxe edition of the classic. I first read the book as an audiobook, so it was a different experience reading it as text and I definitely struggled a bit with the language. But that's part of reading classics for me, and I still enjoyed this original lesbian fiction and the paths it paved in the vampire genre of sapphic stories.

The cover of this book alone was enough to draw me in and the story itself was dark and interesting and kept me reading. However, the writing and the use of language I did struggle with.

I am someone who enjoys reading Shakespeare but with this I found myself struggling and rereading lines. Although it got better as I continued and got used to the writing and language style it did tarnish the read somewhat. I can't help but think that I may of enjoyed it more in audiobook format?

As a result, it was too slow paced for me with the difficulties with the language and it took away from the story. I did however appreciate the lesbian aspect of it which made it more interesting taking into consideration when it was written.
