This was my first book by this author. What a great page turner! I was on the edge of my seat with every page! The chapters go back and forth between Ellen's side of things and Jenna's.
Ellen and Brian have their hands full with their emotional 17 year old daughter, Maddie, never knowing what to expect day to day, while their younger son, Will, is left in the shadows due to Maddie's drama.
Jenna is a single mom trying to make ends meet when she gets tragic news about her 6 year old daughter. Now to piece together what really happened, and find out who's lying about what.
I can't wait to read more books by this author!

Two mothers must deal with consequences of their own actions and their daughters in this mystery. Jenna is a single mom trying to keep it all together, balancing two jobs and raising her daughter without the support of family. Ellen is a wife, mother, a college professor and balancing raising her kids with a career has always been a tightrope walk. She gets a call from her daughter that there has been an accident, but when she arrives on scene, it isn't the kind of accident she anticipated and she isn't sure if the family can recover from this one.

What a fantastic book. Told through both mother's perspectives as they are dealing with the incident that brings their worlds together, these women show two different sides of motherhood at two different points in life. From a young child to a teenager, parenting at both ages is hard, but in very different ways, so it was interesting to read two mothers dealing with two ends of a tragedy with kids at different ages.

While the synopsis gives the basics of the story, I was glad that it didn't give the whole thing and there was so much more to these women, these mothers and these daughters as they go through this moment in time. Kate Hewitt created a great cast of characters and dropped them into a heartbreaking moment and watching them all live through it was entertaining.

I have many Kate Hewitt books on my TBR and hope to get to them real soon!

Loved this book from start to finish!
I could empathize completely with both sides and the characters emotions were so raw and true!

My Daughter's Mistake by Kate Hewitt is another engrossing, thought-provoking read, and I was hooked from the very start. Ms Hewitt has become a must-read author for me, and her latest reminded me just why she has become such a firm favourite.

A split second is all it takes to forever alter the lives of two families. When seventeen year old Maddie's car hits six year old Amy Rose, it is unclear if the little girl will survive her injuries. Maddie, already suffering an eating disorder, begins to spiral as the police question her about her involvement in the accident. As two daughters fight for their very survival, it is their heartbroken mothers who tell their stories, with all of the powerful, raw emotion that comes from maternal love.

This is a heartwrenching story that fully engages the reader's emotions. I was virtually propelled through the pages, empathizing at every turn with these characters who feel so very familiar, as if they could very well be one of us. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

My daughter’s mistake is more than a novel. It is a stark look at the complexity of humanity. It shows us how things that should be black and white are actually a hundred shades of grey! It seems simple to think that the 17 year old girl who ran over a 6 year old girl is in the wrong, but what if the story is more complex than that?

Ellen and Jenna live in a small town whrrr everyone knows everyone. A university town where there is a distinction between “townies” and “gownies”. Ellen and Jenna are both mothers, trying to do the best for their daughters.

The story makes you consider who has “failed” and who has “succeeded” as a mother. As the back stories of all involved become apparent, and other people become embroiled in the story, we learn how complex a situation can be. But importantly we learn how people can reflect and change and find acceptance even in the most horrendous circumstances.

A powerful book..

Another really good read from Kate Hewitt who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. This one is told from the point of view of two mothers. The two women's lives are torn apart when a tragic motor accident happens and a six year old girl is knocked down by a young teenager. The little girl fights for her life while the two women fight to understand what happened on that fateful day.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which delves into motherhood and was quite the emotional read.

My Daughter's Mistake explores themes that will resonate with every mother who's worst nightmare is that something bad will happen to her child, who will do whatever it takes to protect her child, or who has experienced moments when they feel overwhelmed by the demands of life. Jenna’s six-year-old daughter Amy Rose is hit by a car driven by Ellen's seventeen-year-old daughter Maddie. When the police investigation indicates Maddie is hiding something about what happened. Ellen fears for Maddie's future, while Jenna worries Amy Rose may not have one. The story is told from the mothers' perspectives, and their thoughts, reactions and actions are very relatable. The plot moves quickly, throwing in some surprises along the way, but for me the reason the book really shines is the self-evaluation of the characters and their growth through adversity.

This book deals with a lot of sensitive topics like eating disorders, self harm, and drug abuse.

This was a really interesting read with lots of emotional ups and downs. This book deals with lots of sensitive issues in a way that is caring and insightful.

Well written, and a lot of emotion put into the characters. Kinda went the route I thought it would but not what I expected in the ending in a good way.
The writing and story line draw you in and very easy to follow and enjoy reading.

Thanks t the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

My Daughter's Mistake is the tale of two daughters and two mothers.
Maddie: the anorexic daughter
Amy Rose: the sweet little girl
Ellen: Maddie's mom
Jenna: Amy Rose's mom
One Accident has a huge impact on both families.
This one kept me interested throughout. I did guess the twist fairly early on, but I was still interested to see how it all played out. Great characters who were very realistically portrayed.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

This book just didn’t do it for me. I don’t know if its because I’m a mood reader and I wasn’t in the mood to read it or if I just didn’t connect to it.

Two mothers, two daughters, one traumatic accident.
Ellen receives a call no mother wants to get "mum, can you come" from her daughter Maddie. Maddie has been involved in a car accident involving Jenna's 6 year old daughter Amy Rose. Recriminations on both sides follow as the police try to discover who's at fault.
As with any Kate Hewitt book this book grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the very end. Another great novel with tissues a requirement. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review

Wow Kate Hewitt has done it again with another thought provoking, tense read which I couldn't stop reading from the beginning until the end. This book was a brilliantly addictive read and probably one of Kate's best.

All the characters were brilliant especially Jenna and Ellen and I just loved how the chapters were written giving their individual back stories.

I can definitely recommend this book and if I could give it ten stars I would. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this brilliant book.

Emotionally charged novel, with characters you can picture. Tackling a difficult issue, it's a heavy book, but the emotion keeps you turning the pages. My first book by Kate Hewitt, but I intend to read more. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ellen is a sociology professor at Milford College in Milford, NH. Jenna is a townie working minimum wage jobs to keep a roof over her head and that of her six year old daughter Amy Rose. Maddie is Ellen’s seventeen year old daughter who has recently had issues of her own. On a late summer afternoon, Maddie hits Amy Rose with her car. Amy Rose is badly hurt. Hewitt tells the tale from the two mothers’ viewpoints in alternating chapters. Both families have secrets involving the accident . It takes almost the whole book for the truth to come out. Hewitt did a masterful job of developing the characters so that I felt sympathy for both families. This is a very thought provoking book. It would be great for a book club. I highly recommend it. I thank the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.

This amazing book managed to make me cry and feel incredibly uplifted both at the same time!
I found this such a wonderful book, despite tragedy the characters learn to lift their heads, look around them and realise everything has to change, and they need to be the ones who change it.
This is a tough read at times and quite harrowing, but I absolutely loved the inspiration of both Jenna and Ellen's evolution, how they turned everything around and found kindness, positivity and forgiveness - a beautiful, tough but amazing book, I loved it.

The worst imaginable happens to two mothers. On mother’s daughter hit the other mother’s daughter with her car, putting the young girl in a coma.

This book has a lot of tiggers, self starvation, suicide, poor upbringing of children. Just something to be aware of. This is a heavy book because of all the topics but at the heart is a mother’s love for her child.
