Another good book by Sheryl Browne. I enjoyed this book, especially when things all came together, and I would recommend it for other psychological thriller fans.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Sheryl Browne for my advanced reading copy.

A good book
Isn’t one of my favourites
But I read it to the end
It is a psychological thriller
With quite a few twist
Thanks NetGalley

What an edge of your seat suspenseful read! Matt and Kay seem to have a loving relationship with each other as well as the love of their adorable 5 year old daughter, Poppy. Many years ago, Kay dated Matt's brother, Jason, but saw Jason's true demeanor and broke up with him. She ended up falling in love with and marrying his brother, Matt. Now Kay and Matt have 5 year old Poppy who's battling a kidney infection. At school, Poppy befriends a girl named Olivia who could almost be Poppys twin. Suspicions arise in both Matt and Kay, who are wondering if one cheated on the other. Did Kay have an affair with Jason after she married Matt? Did Matt father Olivia with another woman? Suspicions are flying everywhere! I was shocked up til the very end! This is a must read!
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy to read and review.

This is a sterling read and a veritable spiders web of secrets, lies and obsession. It boasts a solid fast-paced plot, together with shedloads of drama. A psychological thriller full of secrets, revenge, jealousy and sibling rivalry, no one escaped this story unscathed and the events that I didn't predict made this novel interesting and unexpected.

This book was twisted in so many ways, I am not sure how to even start unraveling it. But I’m going to try.
On the surface, it’s the story about a family coping with the possibility of a life-changing illness in their child. It’s also the story of grudges, betrayals (imagined and real), and family history…in short, lots of issues. And it’s a clear commentary on the danger of assumptions.
That’s a lot to unpack in a psychological thriller. And because it is so much, there were some parts that were more successful than others.
The medical plot thread made sense, and it was a good basis for the tensions between Kay and Matt. When faced with situations like that, it’s easy to become vulnerable to all sorts of worries and internal questions. That was certainly the case with them.
I also liked the thread with Olivia. I had an idea early on where that one would go, but the author did a good job of giving just enough information, dropping hints here and there, to keep it interesting until it took a bigger focus in the story.
I thought that Kay was a victim through most of the story. She was worried for her child, aware of something (or somebody) manipulating the situations, but also at a loss to the see the bigger picture because she was too caught up in drama.
And that leads us to Matt.
He was actually the perpetrator of a lot of the drama, and frankly, he got on my nerves. I didn’t think he was a nice person (even though Kay kept telling us that he was), he obviously held grudges (again, real or imagined) and he flew off the handle way too easily.
He also let his inner demons take control of things, didn’t see reason, was way too over-reactive…just really unlikeable.
I understand that there was a reason for him being that way, and that the family history plays a big part (going back to when he and his brother Jason were kids), but it just seemed to be too much. Especially when he expected Kay to listen to and believe him but didn’t give her the same consideration.
There are also times that the language felt repetitive. For example, there was one section where everyone was feeling poorly (I think it was repeated at least five or six times). There weren’t many instances, but this writer’s language is usually quite sharp, so it stood out to me.
The entire plot is intricate, and I was never quite sure where the author was going with who knew who, what the real story was and (most importantly) who was the liar and who was the liar’s child. I had my suspicions about all of it – some were right, some were not quite accurate.
If an author can keep me guessing up until the reveal and surprise me in the process, that’s a winner in my book. And this story did exactly that.

If you like books which are non-put-downable thrillers with lots of psychological elements thrown in, while having no idea about what is going on with each of the characters, this book is the one for you.

What we have here are a bunch of people who are all flawed in smaller or bigger ways. Throw these people into a potentially confusing situation, what we finally get is a psychological thriller with gray characters. The story has been told uniquely and the author has managed to maintain a relentless tension throughout the book. The style of writing is crisp and very organised.

I loved how the story unraveled and the way each confusion was sorted. But the story didn't engage my mind. In fact, most of the time I found myself wanting to bash together the heads of the principal characters. The reason why they don't talk openly was just not convincing for me. Then again, what and how they feel is, definitely something a person in actual life can feel too.

Overall, it's a great read for someone who likes to read something intriguing and also completely fast-psed and thrilling.

I thought this book was pretty good. I was on the edge of my seat and had to find out the outcome. I really liked the characters and the plot. I’d read more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

It took me a few weeks to read this book, and I'm not really quite sure why. I found the story gripping, but maybe not quite enough to make me want to read a few chapters every day. I do think that because I had a few days break in between, it made it harder to keep up with who all the characters were. I can't really blame the book for that!

However from about half way through, I did read the rest much quicker and the excitement of the plot kept me interested. I found the characters a little frustrating as they didn't communicate with each other, and it was so annoying. Having said that, it's probably quite true to lots of people in life!

I'm awarding four stars because I do think it was a gripping and interesting story, but maybe just not quite right for me.

I absolutely adore Sheryl Browne, this is a book I immediately knew I had to read and I definitely haven’t been disappointed.

I have to say that this is quite possibly a favourite of mine, Browne really raises the standard with each book.

I have definitely been gripped by this one, it has been completely unpredictable and a book that moves at the perfect pace. I have been kept guessing and completely hooked by this one.

This is a book filled with tension and suspense, I have devoured page after page in just one sitting. This is one I could easily imagine on the big screen and I definitely would want to watch it.

This is definitely a great read and one that should be on the TBR.

2.5 stars. I’ve read a few of this authors other books and enjoyed them but I struggled with this one a bit. It was quite boring and repetitive and didn’t keep my attention.

Intricately woven story with many twists, moral dilemmas and lots of secrets and lies. Poppy, the child is well portrayed and sweet ,the adult characters not so much.

The Liar’s Child is another great read by Sheryl Browne. I couldn’t wait to start this new book and it didn’t disappoint.
Kay and Matt Young along with their 5 year old daughter Poppy appear to have the perfect family life to a passer by but this is going to be ruined by lies, deceit and jealousy. Poppy is ill, her temperature etc need checking a few times a day, Matt is a child surgeon at the hospital and knows what is going to eventually happen and for Poppy to have a good life, sooner rather than later she’ll need a kidney transplant. Kay loves her family deeply and can’t understand why someone is trying to suggest Matt isn’t as faithful as she would think. The plot deepens and twists and there are a lot of twists but I had the characters split well from a quarter of the way in as in who were the good ones and who weren’t.
This was a good read, I think I was more concerned about Kay and Matts marriage than I was about anything else. The only thing that I found is that the ending was very quick but maybe that’s just me wanting a little more.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Well written and carefully thought out plot. Interesting characters that you can really enjoy.
Some aspects of the story I felt could have had a little more background to really explain characters motivations.
But a good read overall

Sheryl Browne is fast becoming the Queen of the psychological thriller genre. The Liar's Child contains more secrets and twists than any other book I've read before!! I absolutely loved this and was, at times, completely baffled as to who was keeping the biggest secret. Totally recommend this, in fact already have told a few people who I know enjoy being kept on their toes!

Sheryl Browne does it again! This domestic thriller shows just how far a desperate mother can go to preserve her family. The ending was a complete surprise that made this story even better!

This book hooked me in from the opening pages. We are immediately introduced into the heart of a family where things are far from perfect. On the surface, you have the illness of a child and the estrangement of two siblings following an explosive argument. If you dig a little deeper, you find a family and a story based on suspicion, secrets and lies.

This leaves the reader off-kilter and experiencing some of these intense emotions themselves as you are not sure who can be trusted or who to believe. The characters for the most part, appear believable and well-developed.

The story is consciously structured to maximise tension and intrigue. I think this is something that Sheryl does extremely well. At times it is frustrating for the reader because the different perspectives and lack of clear communication slow down the narrative on the way to its conclusion, but these feelings are testament to the way the reader becomes invested in this story.

The most touching element is of course Poppy’s story and the issue of organ transplant. I have always been a huge advocator of this and have held a donor card from a very young age. I felt this aspect of the plot brought an extra layer of emotional intensity, but also originality and was well researched and dealt with sensitively.

Overall, another brilliantly twisty and gripping read by an author who is a star of this genre. This book is perfect for fans of Wendy Clarke, Clare Seeber, Arianne Richmonde, Miranda Rijks and K L Slater, to name but a few.

📚 BOK REVIEW 📚

The Liars Child by Sheryl Browne - Publication Date 21st Sept 2021

Kay & Matt are a happy couple and have a daughter called Poppy. Poppy does not keep well at all and the pressure of this takes it’s toll on them as a family.
Then Poppy makes a new friend at school and helped her overcome her shyness. But when faced with their daughters friend.... no one can believe how alike they are , scarily so!!

Having read books by this author before, I practically rubbed my hands together, before diving in!!

I loved the character of Kay. A strong independent woman, who obviously had her own emotions going on from the past. Quite a few characters, so felt myself double checking who was who. That’s probably just me though!!

What would you do ? You turn up to meet your daughter from school and she has a new best-friend. All well and good but her new best friend is an almost exact replica of your daughter - how is this possible ? Surely they must be related ? But how ?

This is what happens to Kay. She can only think that her husband must have had a child with someone else. If this is true it will break her heart but it could save her own daughters life. You see Poppy, Matt and Kay’s daughter has liver disease which means she needs a transplant but so far no one has been a match. Could this little girl save Poppy’s life ?

Nothing in this book is straight forward. Both Matt and Kay think the other is hiding something and their marriage starts to fall apart. Each thinks the other has / still is having an affair but what is the truth ?

This is a fantastic book which had me gripped from the very start. Who do you believe ? What is the truth and what is a lie ? This book will keep you guessing.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
