I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

I have read most of Shalini Boland's books and enjoyed every one of them. The Couple Upstairs starts off a bit slow by it gains speed and before I knew it, I felt I got whiplash. Fasten your seatbelt - the one is a good one. I look forward to Boland's next book.

I've read quite a few Shalini Boland novels and I've enjoyed them all, so of course I was excited to read The Couple Upstairs. This book did not disappoint! The characters and plot were interesting, and I was really invested in finding out what was really going on. This was the sixth book I've read by this author, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this amazing thriller! : )

I found that this was a little slow to start with all the drama and twists at the end, it was ok but it didn’t really engage me until right at the end when things started happening

This book didn't work for me. I was looking for suspense but I didn't find it. I didn't like any of the characters and found myself loosing interest in the story.

When Zac and Neena begin their new life in their new flat, Neena doesn't take to Chris the upstairs neighbour and thinks he might be treating his pregnant wife Vanessa badly.
Things don't go smoothly for the couple, and Neena's new business starts to fail and her relationship with Zac starts to show cracks.
Neena cannot work out why Zac is being distant or why the things that are happening are happening. Is Chris the bad guy in all of this?
In all good books, the twist came near the end, but in this instance there weren't enough characters to disguise the plot twist sadly.

I feel like I repeat myself when reviewing Shalini Boland’s books but I just love her writing and her twisty thrillers.
The character development and detail she includes is all there for a reason. Her creativity to develop new stories and keep you interested knows no bounds.

The Couple Upstairs grabs you right from the beginning and keeps it the entire time. I loved this story and read it in record time.

A must read for thriller fans!

I felt like it started strong and I was definitely intrigued. But, it started to get stale and feel like Groundhog Day. I just read the best friend and this felt too similar. What I mean is the back story. Obviously it’s about who we are reading about and it’s not a surprise and I’m just not a fan of consequences today are because of things that happened 20 years ago. It felt like more effort was put in to the ending as an apology for everything else. The ending felt longer than the rest of the book actually lol. I appreciate the read but hope the next book has a better plot device.

Didn't get to it before it was archived. Sorry, Giving feedback based solely on the cover and my own ineptitude. I apologize for my lack of focus. I'm working on me. I may have gone a little request-crazy once I discovered this platform. My bad.

This was one of those stories that I didn't see the ending coming, so I truly enjoyed the plot from beginning to end.

Nina and Zac just moved their new fixer-upper which they are planning to work on during their free time. The place used to be a single house, but the former owners had made changes to create a two apartment complex, and Nina and Zac got lucky to get the lower part of the place with the lovely courtyard and gardens. As they settled in their new home, Nina becomes close to her upstairs neighbor Vanessa who is pregnant with her first child. Soon enough, Nina starts suspecting that Vanessa is being abused by her husband Chris. She also starts thinking that the couple has more secrets that put Nina in danger.

I truly enjoyed the plot of this book and was amazed by the way the author crafted such a compelling story with so many twists and turns that culminate in such a great ending. The characters were great, and as more information gets revealed, they evolve into multi-dimensional characters. I was engaged from the beginning and found myself trying to find out what was happening. The book goes fast, and the plot is great so I finished the book in a couple of sittings. A great thriller!

I absolutely love the author and always know I'm in for a great read. This is no exception. I'm always drawn into the plot straight away and the complex characters and twists and turns

One interesting book. I really unique story that was thrilling and intriguing, I found it really hard to put down. I love the way the characters are all written and they’re not quite what they seem .

Shalini Boland is one of my absolute go-to authors, and I never even need to read the blurb before I agree to review one of her books. They are all fantastic.

There is so much going on that adds to the creepy and tense atmosphere in this book. The house is cold and in need of an upgrade, and the weather is icy and unpredictable, and this all adds to the sense of desolation and the feeling that something is not quite right. The noises from upstairs, and the erratic behaviour from their upstairs neighbours, all suggest that things are not right.

The pace is a slow-burner to start, which contributes to the tension.

The story is told from Nina’s point of view, with an occasional chapter from someone in the past, we don’t know who this is at first.

When all the strands of the story come together it’s just perfectly executed. There are no huge shocks or twists, but there’s a pacey and dramatic building of momentum to the end.

This book is a total page-turner and I could not put it down. I had to keep reading it until the end, and enjoyed every minute of it. Superb.

Character:
I can't really connect with the character, especially the neighbor.

Plot:
The twist was good, although character-wise, does people really that petty though?
