I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine

I was expecting your run of the mill M&B and was pleasantly surprised
Yes the plot was predictable but this was light, easy to read and had great likeable characters

I found this an enjoyable read

I was a Mills and Boon virgin before I read this. I thought I'd request one out of curiosity and chose this because my husband is a GP - retired now.
Have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It was a light, easy read, with likeable characters. The plot was a bit predictable - they were obviously going to get together - but the subplot of Gemma's estrangement from her parents made it interesting.
For me, in comparison with other books I've read - chicklit / romance type stuff - it was missing something. A touch of realism perhaps (picnic lunches on workdays!!!) There seemed to be a lot of little incidents that didn't go anywhere - patients coming into clinic, whose problems were resolved in two pages and who never reappeared. There were also some cliches - fireworks when they kissed (which happened not once but TWICE!)
But on the whole, I enjoyed it much more than I expected.

A voyage of discovery as our GP and nurse practitioner both come to terms with their pasts and what their future together could be. The book opens with a misunderstanding that is quickly overcome however this sets the tone for a spritely text as we romp through the emotional bruises as well as the day to day medical issues. There is plenty of practice and out and about medicine required, and the author doesn’t blind us with science but gently explains what is going on which is appreciated. The hurts that both Oliver and Gemma are trying hard to overcome are deep and dealt with well and not downplayed allowing us to really root for our couple and their HEA.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Mills and Boon in return for an honest review.

I like Kate Hardy's books and admire her skill and talent as a writer. However, although I enjoyed this one, it really wasn't as good as others of hers I've read, such as Surprise Heir for the Princess, A Will, a wish and a wedding,, The Spanish Doctor's Love Child, Carrying the single dad's baby et al.

I think this was because I found it difficult to like Gemma, the heroine, as much as I wanted. She was almost too nice, too much of goody-two-shoes. I know her determination to keep the door open on her relationship with her parents was admirable, but I think after 10 years - it would have been okay to let go a little. That she filled her life 'doing good' was also admirable, and I understood the year she'd run wild had left her with a lot of baggage but even so - she behaved as if she'd committed some enormous crime instead of recognizing she'd been young, in pain and had made a mistake.

Oliver clearly helped her and understood her and then treated her in the cruelest way after he learned his ex had got engaged. This came out of nowhere and didn't match up to his previous considerate and sensitive behaviour.

However, I must add that the fact I got so involved with these characters is a tribute to KH's writing. She created well-rounded characters. Looking forward to Rob's story next!
I enjoyed it, just not as much as some others. 3'5 stars
