In all honestly, I’m not quite sure what I was expecting from this one, but it wasn’t this. I thought this would be an enlightening and uplifting collection of musings on life and the possibilities we face in death. While the musings were there, the overall vibe I got from this was much more negative with tiny threads of hope fed through. The author articulates their thoughts excellently but ultimately this is not for me.

''With each sun rise we are promised that as long as we search for light we will find it.''

The main problem ''Vignettes of the Possibly Dying'' has is its length. It's way too long. I like shorter poetry collections, with short to medium poems. I mean, while I was reading this I felt that it was never going to end.

However, I did like several poems, although I found a lot of them being irrelevant. Overall, I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked to.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an e-arc in exchange of an honest review.

My thanks to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book to review. Beautiful, thought-provoking, and deeply moving at times. I really loved this collection!

A lovely collection that transports you away from reality before grounding you in some deeper themes and more vulnerable topics.

"Please don't outsource your love and transcendence. I have waited so long".

When someone is at the end of their life, they often have a pearl or two to pass down that they've learnt. Whether it's a mistake they want you to prevent repeating, or advice to help you out of your head, these insights can be life changing.

The premise is gorgeous, but the book is effectively page after page of short quotes. Although touching and meaningful, a short story, analysis or even excerpt linked to the message could have been the cherry on top. There are only so many positive comments I can read after each other when totally divorced from each other.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I truly appreciated the language of this collection of prose poems. It was whimsical and, although hard to understand at times such is the nature of poetry. It doesn't have one single meaning. My one critique for this collection is that the theme - which I believe is that of hope and life - is not well developed throughout the series of poems and it was confusing at times to see where the author was going.

some poems were more relatable than others, but it was overall a pretty solid collection.

I was super excited about this book but for some reason, I just couldn't get into it. The title was very eye-catching and memorable which was what drawn me to the book in the first place. However, it only kept my attention for so long before I wanted to read something else.

I am very particular when it comes to poetry, even more so with modern poetry. This book definitely has its moments, it has a very minimalistic and simple approach and the way it describes to human emotions is actually quite touching. However to someone who loves good old 18th and 19th century classics, this collection feels just too modern (which is personal preference of course). Though this means that it's easily approachable and available for a wider (and perhaps younger) audience. I'm still glad I read this and I did take note on a few pieces. I would say it's worth a read!

Here is one of my favourites within this collection:

This was a stunning book, filled with rhetorical questions, philosophical questions & thoughts and questions about the world and society as we know it. Inspiring and hard-hitting, the words are impactful and focus on the strength you can find in religion, relationships and self-love.

β€œYou’re the humanity by which I am supposed to learn my way.”

I like the way the type is set, with the first letter of each poem placed over top of the sentence. It’s very unique, and it makes it interesting to determine if the concealed word is β€œcurious” or β€œfurious.” It gives multiple meanings to the poetry.

I enjoyed some of the prose, but I think organizing it in a different way would make it much more impactful. If they were organized by subject instead of number, and all of the ideas were collected under an umbrella category, β€œfear,” β€œconsequence,” β€œreligion,” the reader may have a better understanding of exactly how the author feels about these things. I read it as a jumble of ideas the way it currently is.

As far as I can tell, the idea of this book (poetry collection?) is a bunch of short chapters with musings about life and the meaning of life/death/existence. However, that's too broad of an idea and needs to be narrowed down more or the book will suffer, as this one does. I just couldn't work out a clear thesis and it felt like word dumping in every chapter. Prose poems can be effective, but these ones just felt like writing to get to a word count (I have an English degree, trust me, I've done enough of this myself). Definitely a miss for me. I received an eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a series of very honest and insightful feelings of the author…..her words are at times searing and other times beautifully hopeful. I found myself frequently rereading a passage as it so spoke to me and my feelings.
I will be picking this it up to reread many times I am sure. Beautifully done….

Poetic, philosophical, and thought-provoking; KB Eliza's work of spiritual inspiration seeks hope and asks many rhetorical questions. Our shared humanity is explored with heightened language, along with reminders of the greatness of the God who created the world and humanity with purpose.

A wonderful coffee table space renter, something to easily pick up, read a few chapters/pages, pulling something from each, before setting it back down to return to tomorrow.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC copy in exchange for this review.

This is a thought-provoking and lyrical piece of writing with almost all the vignettes containing something to dwell upon, either for content or the delicate use of figurative language. It is a collection I will read more than once.
I found the overall tone to be uplifting and hopeful, therefore I was surprised by the dark cover and the title.
Thank you to the publisher and poet for an advanced copy.

A sweet collection of poems, I can imagine reading one chapter per day and hearing the stories unfold over time.

Im not sure if its just my netgalley app but the formatting on this digital addition needs adjusting.

Beautiful and thought provoking are the first things that come to mind with these poems. I found myself taking snippets of them and posting them elsewhere on my social media because they are completely relatable. It’s strange to see your feelings written down by someone other than yourself but it also gives you the sense that you’re not entirely alone. There are definitely parts of this that I will come back to over and over again.
