'The Hawthorne Legacy' is the second book in The Inheritance Games series and after rereading the first book, I needed to pick up the second one straight away.
Now that the third book is out, I could finally binge reading all three of these books because this is definitely the kind of series that you need to binge read. This book took me about four hours to read because I was so obsessed with the story and I just did not want to put it down.
There were so many twists and turns in this story, so you can never truly guess what was going to happen next and I absolutely adored that.
I loved all of the characters. I loved that we got to see Max in this book because she was only in the first book on text messages. I loved Avery in this book, you can see her growing and changing so much more in this book and how strong and independent she now is.
I do feel like this book kind of wrapped everything up in the end? I don't know why there is a third book because everything kind of felt finished but I am still going to read the third book as I love these characters and this world and I need to know what will happen next.

Thank you to Netgalley for this free copy for review!

This is an amazing adventure that I consumed in one day, it was too brilliant to put down. For everyone who is a fan of Pretty Little Liars you will love this series and the second book is even more capturing than the first.

Continuing on with the mystery that is Toby Hawthorne, Avery is thrown into more games and oh my goodness, the twists are on point. I got to one bit and before the secret had been revealed I was sat going “oh my god, oh my god.” I was even reading it under the desk at work because it is that good and I need to know everything that happens.

The clues left behind are nicely done, not over exaggerated but not impossible to find either. The writing on the wall was such a good touch and the clues are fairly easy to work out, so even the reader can get involved.

I adore where this story took us, and was glad that fame and wealth hadn’t changed Avery into a snob at all. I was glad she wasn’t throwing money at the situation and was instead using her brains.

I would recommend The Hawthorn Legacy series to anyone who loves a good mystery or is a fan of PLL or Sherlock. It’s an easy read but very gripping and I adore it.

I’ve been looking forward to reading The Hawthorne Legacy ever since I finished the first book in the series, The Inheritance Games, back in 2020. So, of course I went into this book with high hopes, expectations and a lot of questions.

The Hawthorne Legacy is an absolutely rollercoaster of a book, that is for sure! I had so many hopes of reading this book in one sitting and quickly too, but life got in the way. I picked up and started this book a couple of times and put it back down because I couldn’t give it the time and energy. The third time I picked it up though, I sped right the way through reading it. It lives up to the first book in the sense that I had to know the answers to the questions and when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. Jennifer Lynn Barnes really knows how to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

I’m such a sucker for a romance storyline. Yes, I am not the biggest fan of love triangles but this love triangle is my exception. I adored seeing little bits of romance weaved throughout the mysteries and I am really looking forward to seeing how the romance progresses.

I loved seeing Avery’s journey into the world of billionaires and the way she develops as a character. I cannot wait to compare the Avery we see at the start of the series to the Avery we will see at the end of the series.

I loved seeing more of the Hawthorne brothers in this series and I couldn’t tell you which is my favourite. My one ask for the third book is that we get to see more of Nash and Libby please! I adore them and want to see a lot more of them.

The Hawthorne Legacy is a victim of second book syndrome but despite this I still adored it. A lot of the plot of this book is filler and you can tell it is leading up to an explosive third book. Even then, the ‘filler’ is thrilling and kept me completely hooked on this series.

I was surprised that this book didn’t end on the cliffhanger I was expecting, but it weirdly made me more excited for the third book. I am unsure of where the author will take the series now but I am looking forward to more mysteries, twists, turns and shocking moments. There is clearly so much more to be discovered!

Overall, The Hawthorne Legacy is a thrilling book that will keep you on the edge of the seat. It might not have quite lived up to the first book in the series but it still kept me on my toes. I cannot wait to see what happens in the third book and how all the mysteries will come to an end! If you haven’t read this series yet, I cannot recommend it enough! It will blow you away!

This is the sequel to The Inheritance Games, which I found to be an interesting concept, so I was intrigued to see where the sequel would go.
The Hawthorne Legacy is slower paced than its predecessor, however it is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing.
The ending leaves you wanting more, which I was initially disappointed by as I had heard that this was the last instalment, however I have since discovered that there will be a third book, so I can’t wait to read that one as well.

I read The Inheritance Games back when it was first published in 2020, and absolutely loved it, so when I saw that The Hawthorne Legacy was being released, I was desperate to read it. The Inheritance Games had ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I couldn’t wait to finally find out what happens.

We immediately dive straight back in to the mystery of the story, with Avery and Jameson trying to come to terms with the bombshell that is dropped at the end of book one, and plotting their next step, which OF COURSE involves more games and riddles. This is one of those stories where I really don’t want to give anything away in my review, because you get so much more out of this book if you go in to it completely unaware of what’s about to happen, so I’m going to try to avoid talking about the actual plot of the story altogether, and focus on the more general aspects of the book.

This series has such an interesting mix of characters, and I love every character that the author has created (some of them it’s a ‘love to hate’ situation). The Hawthorne boys in particular are favourites of mine, as they are all so different, have their own unique skills and talents, and they can also be very unpredictable, which makes the story so much more exciting. Jameson is my personal favourite though, because he’s definitely the most unpredictable of the boys, he’s always up for a little bit of danger, and he brings out a side to Avery that I really enjoy. He makes her live on the edge a little more, and I love that. I was so happy that Avery’s best friend, Max, had a little more involvement in this story too, as I really enjoy her personality, and I think she could bring a lot more fun to this series.

The game aspect of the story is a real joy to read, and I absolutely love trying to figure out the riddles and the mysteries with the characters. The way that the game takes so many twists and turns, unearths so many secrets, and causes some completely unexpected revelations makes this book impossible to put down. You have no idea what is around the corner, and it has you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Alongside the fun of the game, there is also a large amount of danger, and the author really upped her game with this with The Hawthorne Legacy, which is packed full of action and intensity.

Although I’m not usually a big fan of romance in books, with this series, I actually really enjoy it. The ‘Will they? Won’t they?’, love triangle situation is the perfect romance to compliment the game/mystery elements of the story. Nothing with the Hawthorne’s is ever simple, including their love lives. This aspect of the book is actually wrapped up nicely at the end of the book, and it is a very satisfying ending. However, I know that book 3 is coming, and I have a feeling that this ending is too good to be true, and I’m ready for it to completely blow up in the next book.

As you can tell, I absolutely loved this book! It’s explosive, it keeps you guessing, and has you totally hooked. I am so ready for book 3 already, because I can not wait to see this story continue. It is definitely one of my favourite YA series.

I give The Hawthorne Legacy an easy 5 star rating!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for my e-ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

**I was provided with an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**

This book is just as addictive and fast paced as its predecessor!

I did have my doubts before reading as I saw that a lot of people didn’t enjoy this sequel and also I remember feeling like the first book worked well as a standalone. However, it wasn’t long before new twists started unravelling around Avery and her Hawthorne boys that I was hooked back in and determined to stay in for the whole ride.

I didn’t do a reread of The Inheritance Games beforehand but I felt like the overarching storyline was a lot more interesting to follow in this one than the first book. I understand why so many people didn’t enjoy the romance side of things but I personally was so absorbed by the central mystery and the reveals that I wasn’t too bothered by it. Also I like both Jameson and Grayson so…

One thing I do pretty much agree with other people is why on earth is there another book? Again I don’t see the need to continue the story and this time round there isn’t really much for a third book to take off from.. Though with how ingenious and entertaining all the puzzles and clue hunting are I’m probably going to end up picking up the third book anyways.
Final Rating – 4.5/5 Stars

As with many books that are the second in a trilogy, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first, but I still liked it. This one picks up right after the first ends, and once again readers are immersed in the puzzles that Tobias Hawthorne left behind. If you recall, the first book ended with the message: "Find Tobias Hawthorne II".

This installment focuses more on Avery's decision between Grayson and Jameson with regards to her romantic feelings, and it's not an easy choice. There's also the question of why Toby is on the run, the continuing question of the reason for Avery's inheritance, and most importantly--how to find Toby when it seems like many people would like to see Avery out of the picture permanently. Who can she trust?

There are a lot of characters here, and it's really important to read The Inheritance Games first so that you know who is who and how they all figure into the narrative. I liked how the author developed them further, making me understand some of them more than I did in the first book and I actually started to like some of the people I hated the first time around (yet also on the flip side there were some characters I grew to hate even more).

This is a fun series for those who enjoy smart YA puzzle mysteries. If you liked the Truly Devious series, you'll definitely find these books engaging and fun. I partially listened to this book as an audiobook and partially read a print copy. The narrator Christie Moreau brings Avery to life and keeps the reader invested in a positive outcome for her.

I'm anxiously awaiting book 3 and am sad that I have to wait an entire year to find out what happens!

This was a fun conclusion to a fun duology. Following the continuing story of Avery and the Hawthorne brothers, the plot becomes more and more ridiculous as it progresses, which was entertaining but ultimately, not as well thought out as book one. I would definitely recommend both books to anyone with a love of elaborate games as long as they can suspend their disbelief a lot!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I literally have no idea what just happened. It was all a fever dream. Maybe it's because I wasn't fully invested in the book from the beginning considering how much I didn't like The Inheritance Games compared to most people but the entire book felt confusing.

Loved this one again, and just like the first book I was hooked, intrigued and seduced by this brilliantly, thrilling story. There was one point I thought oh dear it’s going into territory that is a bit iffy but of course we are in safe hands though I am going to say now, I disagree with Avery’s choice in men… 😂 or interests.

Amazing. Just as unputdownable as the first book, twist after twist after twist constantly throwing you off course. I really love the characters and the love triangle, but I also love that the romance doesn't take over the book.

When it comes to the Hawthornes, I am addicted. I devoured the first book in a day and was left with so many questions, my mind puzzled over them for weeks. Then came the agonising wait until book 2 and it did not disappoint. The Hawthorne Legacy is full of twists, riddles and even more surprises than book one, including the question of who her parents really were.
The Hawthorne Legacy follows our favourite Cinderella as she struggles to make sense of her bond with the brothers, tries her hardest to stay alive and as we seen from the first book, that is very difficult, as well as unearthing a Hawthorne mystery left buried in a blocked off room, far in the past.
This mystery was fun, full of adventure and even more riddles and breadcrumbs. It had double the drama, even more of a love triangle than the first, which I am a sucker for, and was such a quick read. I started it with my my morning coffee and had finished it by 3pm. I just couldn't put it down. I tried and I tried, but the book was too strong. I now have the problem of waiting until book 3 and I don't know how I am going to cope. The Hawthornes are an enigma I need to solve.

A brilliant second part of this series. Fast paced and thrilling, it gripped me from the very start. I loved how it really starts to unravel the character of Avery and her relationships with the Hawthornes. Clever and intriguing I’m wondering and waiting for how part three will evolve.

The second book in the inheritance game, was not a disappointment. After the twists and turns of the first book I thought that this might lack some of the excitement of the first but it didn’t. I loved the relationship that began to develop between the characters as we found out more about the brothers and the riddles that were left for them. As the secrets and lies untangled it became clear as to why Avery had inherited all of this and the role she was to play. Her relationship with all the brothers became one in which they began to protect her rather than resent her and the romantic intrigue was just perfect.
Now I can’t wait for the third.
