This is a brilliant debut novel and I’m excited to see what they will come up with next.
This is a dark, crime thriller that will have you hooked from the first few pages.
Jess is struggling to cope with life but when she wakes one night to find her house on fire, her first thought is to get her daughter to safety.
The Police suspect Jess of starting the fire but when Jess overhears a conversation she knows there’s one person who believes her.
Jess follows Nate and asks for his help and soon he’s torn between her and his sister in the Police.
This is a great crime thriller that has lots of threads and with a killer copying renowned serial killers, it’s not for the feint hearted.
I highly recommend this book for all crime fiction fans.
Thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Dark, disturbing, twisty, gripping and entertaining. A fast paced, adrenaline fuelled, and often terrifying book that I couldn't put down.
When I thought it was passing my comfort zone it went into darker places.
And I loved it.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This was a difficult one for me to read, so perhaps you shouldn't take my score as particularly significant.

The Echo Man is a serial killer who (we soon discover, so not a spoiler) copies previous well-known serial killers. As a result, the death count soon rises up and the police are left in a panic.

I do like crime fiction and books about serial killers. I like the tension, competent people doing good investigation work, wondering how they're going to get caught etc. But I'm not super keen on books with lots of violence - and here you'll find decapitation, torture, deaths of animals and babies, lots of rape, and a killer who delights in it all when we get their POV. It's all thrown in there. And for serial killer aficionados, I'm sure it will be right up their street.

It was too much for me. I did read it all. I liked some of the characters and thought they were interesting. I wanted to see where it was going, if they'd figure it out (and if I had figured it out), and how it would resolve. But getting to the end is messy, bloody, and I wasn't super keen on the final resolution. Just not for me.

This wasn't for me, I do love a good thriller and don't mind some "blood and guts" but this was too much for me, sorry but I didn't finish this book

Wow, this book is not for the faint hearted!
The Echo Man is brilliantly written with a plot that will shock you from start to finish. The development of the plot is really clever and quick-paced. The writing is brilliant and Sam Holland was not afraid of writing in horrific sometimes graphic detail of abuse and assault.
There is a small group of main characters, each of which have their own personal struggles as they try to work together to find the culprit and bring to an end the horrific attacks and murders of The Echo Man.
While it's not for the faint hearted, it's such a good book that kept me guessing all the way through. It's one of those books where the reader will find themselves questioning nearly every character they meet!
I really enjoyed The Echo Man and definitely would recommend with the advice for potential readers to check the CW's first.

WOW!
Firstly, this book is most definitely not for the faint hearted or easily offended! I loved it! It's raw, brutal, edge of your seat stuff that kept me hooked throughout. I stayed up until the early hours to finish it. An incredible debut novel, I'm eager to read more from them.
Huge thanks to netgalley, the publisher and author for the advanced ebook.

A dark and disturbing book with rather more graphic and sadistic descriptions than I like. However, the murderer is copying well-known serial murders so that is not surprising. DCA Cara Elliott has her work cut out to solve this case and, although the ending seems complete, is it really? Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review

TRIGGER WARNING: Extreme violence, Rape, M/F sexual assault, gore - basically everything. If you are squeamish this is not for you.

The Echo Man is a dangerous Serial Killer that is on the loose in Hampshire and he is the ultimate copy cat killer. Each kill ‘Echos’ the most macabre infamous kills of histories serial killers. This killer is smart and calculated and it makes him near impossible to catch. DCI Cara Elliott and her partner DS Noah Deakin are called out to a horrific case of a double murder, meanwhile Cara’s brother Nate Griffin (a fellow DS in the Hampshire Constabulary) is traipsing around to crime scenes gathering evidence (while on suspension) that there is in fact a serial killer on the loose. The very same one that brutalised and killed his wife and left him for dead.

Jessica Ambrose is on the run from a crime she did not commit - burning down her own home and killing her husband. The only person that seems to believe her is Nate. Can the killer be brought to justice without everyone losing their sanity and their lives.

I was sucked in immediately, what a tale. Very violent, I can handle that and I really liked the idea of it. What we have as we go on though is a case of a good solid story going haywire. There are characters left right and centre all caught up in this, there are victims galore (over 20 deaths in the first half the book) I get it its a serial killer but geez Louise ease up between kills so we can catch a breath. This book makes the police look like useless hacks and while that may be fine for the story - surely there is bound to be one or two decent officers of the law that go hold up… we need some MF help here and get the big guns in. It isn’t until about 80% through the book and endless brutal rapes, murders and decapitations that the big boss goes well we might need to hand this over to the Met you have 24 more hours to get a conviction. Seriously…. You would be calling in for help if you had this many people dead, you would need all the help you can get.

No one is safe either everyone is a target and while its an entertaining read it feels long. 400 pages isn’t that bad but it felt like a 700 page read - the chapters were short but it dragged after the first 50%. It felt like someone dies, police no nothing, Griffin does something stupid, Jessica does something stupid - rinse, repeat. UNTIL - the final 20% where the author throws literally everything at this story including multiple kitchen sinks. It felt like watching 5 action films at once, on steroids while it was on fire!! Too much… it could have been a really good story and like I say I was getting into it.

I liked Griffin he is super damaged but he’s trying his best (which is kind of shit but still), he cares for Jessica and she’s dopey but not unlikeable either. For me though there was just too much going on, easy enough to follow I just don’t think it needed EVERYTHING in the one book, perhaps if the author wanted something with this much oomph it could have been broken into two novels and give some of the characters a bit more backstory… either way it lost me.

The ending was also a huge hand hold - a play by play of what happened and why. Which is great to have it all neatly wrapped up but there was no ambiguity, no need for the imagination at all. Just a bit of shame.

Thank you to Crooked Lane Books, NetGalley and the author for an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.

An excellent novel from a new author on the UK crime writing scene. This is not a book for the very squeamish and definitely not a cozy mystery. A killer is on the loose copying murders from serial killers of the past and is always one step ahead of DCI Cara Elliot and her team.
The plot has several different strands which converge into one as the story evolves. There are many graphic descriptions of violence, rape, and murder. The characters are clearly depicted and their individual stories come together for an explosive and unexpected ending. The author cleverly lays several false trails before the killer is revealed and the ending leaves scope for this to be just the first in a series. I would certainly purchase future books by this author. The book will suit fans of dark crime and particular fans of the American author Chris Carter.

The fast action packed thriller had me glued to my seat till I finished it. I really enjoyed it. This book started with action and ended with it, the characters were well placed for a good crime thriller, the broken girl, the haunted cop, I didnt guess the bad guy till nearer the end and even though I got it, I still really liked the back story. I look forward to the next book by this author

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was gruesome and overly detailed (which I imagine people who like that kind of horror torture porn movie will have no problem with – but I’m apparently squeamish cause this was just nasty to read).

The characters are paper-thin, the motivations are trite, and the romantic relationship is eye-roll worthy. The prose was pretty basic and not to my taste. The twists felt kind of silly as opposed to gasp-worthy, and the last chapter, in particular, made me wish I’d DNF’d this book. With all the gore and salaciousness this book shouldn’t have also somehow managed to be pretty dull but it bored me.

I’m sure this book will work for somebody, but it isn’t me.

I received an E-ARC copy with a request for my honest review,

This book follows Jessica Ambrose as she is on the run, suspected of a fatal arson attack on her family home.
She encounters a suspended detective called Nate Griffin who she feels can keep her safe and help her find answers about who is out to get her family.

Meanwhile detective Cara Elliott is investigating a string of murders which all mimic other past serial killers.

When Nate and Cara’s investigations entwine, they must work together to try and find the murderer before anyone else gets hurt.

Who is the murderer? Which Serial Killer will they copy next?

I thought this book was amazing, especially as this is a debut book from this author. The inclusion of a number of different serial killers had me thinking about which one the murderer was copying now.

I think I loved Nate’s character the most as even though he is a tough guy and going through some struggles, it was lovely to see a softer side to him.

There was suspense throughout as the murders just kept on coming, and the detectives were strung along on a number of occasions with some of the clues left to taunt them.

Overall, an amazing debut thriller with a serial killer copycat on the loose.

This is a fabulous debut novel. Two detectives, Elliot and Deakin, are tasked with finding a serial killer who is copying serial killers from the past like Dahmer, Sutcliffe and Manson to name a few. All the characters are likeable or extremely unpleasant and there doesn’t seem to be any in between. Things become more complicated when one of the intended victims Jess, flees from hospital as she fears being arrested for the murder of her husband and finds solace in the arms of a suspended Detective, Griffin, who is also the brother of Elliot. There are many characters in the book but I feel this adds to the story. My only issue is that this author has a very sick and twisted imagination which has lent itself to a fabulous novel. Definitely kept me guessing to the end.

Oh my goodness this book was so good. A little bit gruesome at times but, I still kept on reading. I loved this debut novel, well written and very well researched a winner for me. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Mother of God!

Hold on tight guys, this one’s gonna blow your socks off, followed by the entire outfit!

Serial killer thrillers are my all time favourite genre, and they don’t get more depraved, sadistic, and downright terrifying than The Echo Man. It was utterly immersive, creepy, and so dark it’s practically underground!!! I’m here for all of it!! If I could, I’d have devoured this in one sitting but, sigh, life…

Characters were superb; the killer was a downright psycho, like off the charts batsh*t crazy - my kind of baddie!

Even though it’s fiction (thank god!) it’s extremely reminiscent of Mindhunter (my favourite true crime book). True crime fans and crime fiction fans alike will inhale this one - as long as you can stomach the gore… needless to say, if you’re of a nervous disposition… well perhaps skirt past this one…

I’m astounded that this is a debut! Im seriously hoping there’s a sequel but Sam Holland’s books will be an autobuy for me based on this one.

Serious contender for my favourite book of 2022!

For anybody who binge-watches true crime serial killer documentaries, this will be the perfect book. Very gory but an exciting read: I devoured this book and will be looking out for more novels by Sam Holland. A killer emulating a variety of serial killers is a fresh idea and Holland delivers it convincingly.

If you are a True Crime fan this is a definite must-read! It is also not for the faint-hearted with some really gory descriptions!

I've always been a fan of true crime stories and reading about all the notorious serial killers. When I saw the premises of this book I jumped at the opportunity to read it and I can definitely say I was not disappointed. What a terrifying thought, a copycat serial killer who re-enacts real murders to the tiniest of details like a fish tank! We have the who's who of serial killers in the book from the Hillside Strangler to Jeffrey Dahmer, the Yorkshire Ripper, Charles Manson, and the Golden State Killer.
A link to the true nature of the crimes is made by chance but will the police be able to find this person dubbed the Echo man before the grand finale? Why does it seem like the killer is always 1 step ahead of the police?

We meet the messed-up Jess who does not trust the police and goes on the run after her husband is killed in a house fire. There is the equally messed up Griffen who lost his wife in a brutal attack that nearly cost him his life as well. He is obsessed with finding the killer and is convinced that a lot of the recent murders are linked. Finally, we meet DCI Cara Elliott who must make sense of everything while trying to keep Griffen; her brother; on the straight and narrow.

There are fascinating facts in this book about the true crimes that were committed and it is expertly woven into the story. There's a lot of depth to the characters and I would love to see them back in a sequel!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The story was a bit complex, to say the least, and it took an age to get into it, I nearly gave up but about halfway it does liven up, and you can get the gist of the story or the frame of mind of the killer, and how it came to be called the Echo Man, lots of murders and also some sex so be warned, it's Interesting and it looks like there could be a 2nd lined up as it finished undone.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for an ARC copy to read and review. I would read this author again.

I am lost for words.....
Absolutely amazing book especially for a debut novel. Great storyline with fantastic characters throughout. Really didn't want this one to end and to a certain extent I hope it hasn't. My guess of who the killer was must have changed about 3 or 4 times and I still find it gobsmacking for want of a better word.
More please and soon.
